This homey abode, named for the Westlakes, 60-year residents of the house, blends new furnishings and finishes with old time character and charm. The large lot boasts gorgeous lilacs, honeysuckle and iris blooming in spring, a wild butterfly garden in summer, and plenty of room for snow men and snow forts in the winter. Wildlife frequently visit the neighborhood, including mule deer, rabbits, quail, hawks and hummingbirds. A great house for out-of-town grandparents visiting family in the area. The Westlake Cottage is located north of Portland Ave on NW 3rd St on a quiet residential street of older homes.brbrThe house can sleep up to 5 people in two bedrooms with queen-sized beds in each ('NovoPure' organic construction mattresses) and on a full-sized futon couch in a semi-private family room. A gas fireplace makes the living room cozy in winter, and in summer there's AC in the back half of the house. Summer sun makes the whole house cheery. brbrThe First Street Rapids on the Deschutes River (a great place to swim on hot summer days) is a short, four block walk from the Westlake Cottage. From the Rapids you can follow the River Trail downstream for miles along a well marked path, or cross the footbridge and walk upstream 10 minutes and be in downtown.brbrAn easy ten minute walk will get you downtown to enjoy brewpubs, fine restaurants, coffee shops, live local theater and music, and of course, Goody's old-fashioned ice cream parlor. brbrWe aim to make your stay as pleasant as possible. brWhen you arrive, you'll find coffee, tea, and laundry washer/dryer inside the house. There`s a chance due to wildfires that there are smokey air conditions during your stay. The condo is a short 10-minute walk into the heart of downtown Bend where you can find local breweries and delicious restaurants. Or, if you prefer, you’d be about two football fields away from the edge of the Deschutes River and the neighboring Pioneer Park and a 22 minute drive to Mt. Bachelor!brbrbrbrThe Space:brbrThis is Unit 180/181, which we've nicknamed Drake Your Money Maker. The owners of this unit at the Pioneer Park Condominiums lived in it for several years when they first moved to Bend.They loved its proximity to downtown, and remodeled it not to feel like a rental, but to feel like home.  It features slate floors, tiled showers, granite countertops, open shelving and full-sized kitchen appliances.brbrbrbrThe condo is divided into two separate spaces with a connecting door: a living room with a kitchen, and a master bedroom. The living room side has a gas fireplace and a sofa. The bedroom side has a comfy king bed and two closets. Both sides of the condo have their own full bathrooms, one for him and her. Each side has a private balcony overlooking the property. brbrbrbrThis condo is advertised as sleeping two adults but there's a futon in the living room, allowing you to sleep up to four. Since futons are not known for their comfort, please only consider putting children on it. Please let us know if you plan to bring more than two guests.brbrbrbrThis condo's location cannot be understated. It's just a few blocks from the heart of downtown, maybe a 10-minute walk. It's also two football fields away from the Deschutes River and a peaceful river trial. The downtown area features several public parks. The condo is directly adjacent to Pioneer Park, one of the many nearby parks in the city, accompanied by Brooks Park, Harmon Park and, of course, the very large and popular Drake Park. brbrbrbrThe nice thing about 180/181 Drake Your Money Maker is that you won't need to drive your vehicle much once you arrive. There is free parking at the facility, and once here, you can walk to just about everything! One of the many things Bend is famous for is its breweries and you can stumble home from several of them! Downtown Bend is full of restaurants, pubs and locally owned boutiques. In one area you've got a living room with a full kitchen, fireplace, air conditioning, bathroom, and patio. The second space is the master bedroom, with a queen bed, a second bathroom and another patio, which we find that guest's often really appreciate. brbrbrbrYou're located on the ground level, so no stairs are required to get to your front door. The complex gets its name because it is adjacent to Pioneer Park, one of several public parks in the area that align with the river; and we like call this unit Boaty and Soul because you're also a 2 minute walk from the edge of the Deschutes River. There's a convenient trail along the river, and if you appreciate a cool water feature, you'll be happy to check out the irrigation dam with a fish ladder.brbrbrbrThe Pioneer Park Condos were built in the 1970s, originally to be Phase 2 of what people back then called a condotel. However, it split off from the other development and became an independent entity. It has the personal touches of the individual owners of the property, who live in Lake Tahoe and have personally decorated and furnished the unit.
