Our cabin has all the amenities of home away from home while enjoying the peace and beauty of the Western North Carolina mountains. We are just 20 minutes away from Bryson City and the Nantahala Outdoor Center where you can do some white water rafting and zip lining, We are 10 minutes from Tsali Recreation area, less than 30 min from the entrance to the Smoky Mountain National Park and less than 10 miles from Stecoah Gap on the Appalachian Tr. We are 20 min from Bryson City where you can ride the train through the mountains! The Blue Ridge Parkway can be accessed in Cherokee which is also less than 30 min away. Cataloochi ski area is in Maggie Valley about 45 min away. There is a book in the cabin with many suggestions for hiking, dining and more! Deep Creek in Bryson City is my favorite for hikers of many levels and has multiple waterfalls along the way. We are remote, so I recommend you get your groceries before you arrive at the cabin. I recommend Ingles in Bryson City and there is also an Ingles in Robbinsville. We are pet friendly! We charge a 60.00 one time pet fee for up to 2 pets. The front deck has a gate on it at one end and I provide a pet/baby gate for the other end of the deck. Check in time is 3:00 pm the day of your arrival and check out time is 10:00 am. I will always do my best to accommodate early check ins if possible. Due to this I cannot honor late checkouts. brbrPLEASE READ REGARDING ROAD UP TO CABINbrThe road up to the cabin is steep and narrow but paved all the way up. The driveway is also steep and there is room for two cars. You do NOT need a four wheel drive. If you are driving a MOTORCYCLE or SPORTS CAR please contact me with any questions if you are unsure about being able to access the cabin. I do not recommend riding double on a motorcycle up the driveway. For comparative purposes, I do have family members who can ride up with no problem and I have a Miata that makes it up just fine. We are close to the famous Tail of the Dragon and welcome experienced bikers and sports car enthusiasts! NO TRAILERS allowed. If you have a trailer, let me know and I can help you find a safe place to leave it during your stay.

End the evening stargazing and roasting marshmallows by the fire pit. brbrThe 3 bedrooms are all very large. The main bedroom has a king bed and en-suite full bath with a step-in shower. The upstairs has a King bedroom with an en-suite half bath. The other upstairs bedroom room has two queen beds.brbrThe main level also has the laundry room and second full bath with tub. The front porch has 2 steps to the ground, and then there are 6 more steps and a gravel path to the dock.brbrOur cabin is a hand-built home that is over 160 years old and has plenty of quirks as a result. The upstairs is accessed via a staircase with low headroom that has bonked plenty of heads over the years. The upstairs floors are bouncy and noise isolation between rooms is poorer than a modern home. The upstairs half bathroom is partitioned from the bedroom with a shower curtain, which while functional, is not very private. We try hard to keep the spiders and pests out, but you may encounter cobwebs or a bug.brbrGuests may use our canoe, kayaks, and PFDs, but must clean and return them to storage when done. brbrEasy access via paved state road. Parking for 2 cars beside the cabin. Cabin is on a road that gets some vehicle traffic, commonly at commute times and Sunday morning.brbrCabin has Starlink high-speed Internet. Most cell phone providers have poor to no service on the property. BESSIE’SbrbrThis house was built by a Cherokee woman and her husband. The original house was located beyond the well where a rock wall can still be seen. They lived there while this house was completed. After he died, she continued to live here until she passed.brbrYou might notice several of the light switches are lower than usual. Bessie was less than five feet tall. She used the back room as, what she termed, her Indian kitchen. It had a wood cook stove which she preferred. Her granddaughter upgraded the current kitchen but Bessie called it the White kitchen and continued using the one in the back. She always had a large garden on the flat to the right of the carport and used the rock BBQ pit to can her vegetables.brbrI can remember many times seeing her walk up and down the road looking for her sons. If I stopped, she would only speak to me in Cherokee. I was convinced she didn’t speak English until my wife remarked she just didn’t speak English to me.brbrWe call this house Bessie’s in remembrance of her. brbrOVERVIEWbrYou can enjoy 600 feet of flat creek frontage and a large expanse of grass with no neighbors. There are both front and back porches, a large fire pit with firewood, charcoal grill and picnic table in the back yard. Benches and a swing are overlooking the creek for quiet times. The house has 2 bedrooms and one bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other 2 twins. There is a full size pull out sofa in the back room. The living room has a reclining sofa and love seat and the back den a love seat, rocker and table desk. Both rooms have WiFi, TV with independent Netflix and ROKU operation with a DVD and VHS player in the den. The kitchen is stocked with the usual items including Keurig, drip and percolator coffee pots, microwave and dishwasher. Linens, paper goods and soap are furnished. Washer and dryer are off of the den. brThis house is located on the lower end of Little Snowbird creek about 8 miles west of town. The approach road is paved and the driveway is hard packed gravel with an adjacent carport. There is parking both on the driveway and above the house.brThe area offers boating at Santelelah Lake, the scenic Cherohala Skyway, The Tail of the Dragon with its many curves, for motorcycle enthusiasts, hiking the many trails in and around Joyce Kilmer National Forest. There is rafting and kayaking on the Nantahala river and of course great trout fishing on several creeks in the area. Fishing license can be bought online.brIt's recommended that groceries be purchased before arriving to save a trip back to town. An adorable efficiency apartment located in a barn on the property of an 1880's farm house on 15 acres of private land nestled in the beautiful Stecoah valley in rural Western North Carolina. The farmhouse is a separate rental, so there may be other guests on the property, but no indoor spaces are shared. The apartment has a small kitchen with a two burner cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, Nespresso, drip coffee maker and a full size refrigerator. It has a full bathroom with a walk in shower and large empty closet. The sleeping arrangements are a sofa which pulls out to a two person bed. The house is located on the perimeter of Yellow Branch Farm, a former dairy farm and creamery and home to the now closed Yellow Branch Pottery. Guests are welcome to walk around the farm and garden. The location is very quiet with an occasional car, farm vehicle, or pedestrian passing by the house on Yellow Branch Road. Also, adjacent to the entrance is Silverbell Studio, a pottery studio that established by Sharla and Tamar, who purchased Yellow Branch Pottery in 2022.brbrThe spacious downstairs of this cabin includes a great room with vaulted ceiling, an open, well-stocked, compact galley kitchen and dining area.brbr Also downstairs is a bedroom with double bed, a sitting room with DVD player and hundreds of movies and Roku Smart TV. Robbinsville is 15 miles away and Bryson City, 25 miles. brbrWe didn't rent in 2023 after Bruce fell from a ladder while helping a neighbor in January. The year long hiatus and then, the subsequent aftermath from Hurricane Helene affected our premier host listing. We are grateful for the support and out reach from our community.
