Robertson's Cottages; A Door County Waterfront Resort / Log Cabin, Dog Friendly

Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, United States

Robertson’s Cottages are nestled on a slender, tree-laden peninsula called Idlewild. Off the beaten path, at the end of a quiet dead-end road, our family has welcomed guests since the 1930s. We genuinely appreciate your interest in staying in one of our several individual and unique cottages filled with the modest comforts and serenity a body, mind and spirit needs. brbrThis listing is for Log Cabin, a genuine and historic log cabin nestled in the Idlewild woods just 200 feet from the shoreline of Sawyer Harbor. This use to be the Yount family summer residence and is the most cozy and homey of all the cottages at Robertson's. In Log Cabin you will find a warm and inviting living room centered around a Door County limestone fireplace, a quaint bathroom with a clawfoot tub and shower, a fully furnished kitchen finished in all natural cedar planking...adding the sweetest old time rustic touch, a bright sun room with a full size bed and bunk beds, and on the south side of the cottage a private bedroom with a queen bed and views of the wooded surroundings. Connected to the kitchen sits a large, airy screened in porch fitting for morning waffles, afternoon checker tournaments or evening entertainment and fellowship. brbrGuests of Robertson’s Cottages have access to our spacious permanent pier (8ft x 120ft), protected moorings with finger piers, boat slips, a canoe, row boats, two paddle boards, life jackets, communal fire pit, laundry room, library, sauna, play structure with two swings and a slide, picnic tables, tether ball, safe sandy beach, swim raft, charcoal grills and free, turtle's pace, wavering wireless internet (realistically, you may not be able to binge watch your favorite series on Netflix or participate in online gaming while staying at Robertson’s, BUT you should be able to check emails and post your Door County sunset photo on social media!). ↟↟↟brbrIdlewild is located at the juncture of the waters of Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay and Sawyer Harbor. The rejuvenating scent of the forest, the pristine waters and the closeness with nature makes it easy to take a break from the cares you left behind. Directly across the harbor from Robertson’s you will see the steep, densely wooded bluff of Potawatomi State Park. The 1,225 acre sanctuary is perfect for bicycling, bird watching, hiking, observing native Door County flora and fauna, picking wild berries in season and picnicking. The park is open year round from 6am-11pm. brbrAs nature changes the landscape in the spring, the woods become blanketed with white trillium. Life unearths gradually and proceeds swiftly this time of year in Idlewild. Nearby apple and cherry orchards bloom in late May and walleye fishermen quietly troll the harbor every night. With over 200ft of shoreline, a historical and spacious permanent pier (8ft x 120ft), and protected moorings with finger piers and boat slips, Robertson’s is a gem of a place for boat, fishing and nature lovers alike.brIn autumn, the view across the protected water of Sawyer Harbor is spectacular. One can observe the slowly changing panorama of colors and feel the refreshingly crisp fall air settle deeply in your lungs. The fresh, sun-warmed days and water-cooled nights are sure to make you feel stronger in body and soul. brbrIf activity is what you enjoy, there is a challenging eighteen hole golf course located at the entrance to Idlewild. You may also have interest in a day trip to the more populated areas of the county where you may indulge in village shopping, delight in local festivals, or flavor locally crafted beer or wine at one of the various craft breweries and wineries. One of our personal favorite activities, perfect for any age, is embarking on an afternoon adventure up the peninsula for a picnic and evening musical at Northern Sky Theater located in Peninsula State Park. Their incredible outdoor venue and all original productions are sure to fill your hearts with joy and wonder.brbrWhether you are bicycling the winding, wooded, back country roads, taking an invigorating morning meander or cozy sundown voyage by boat to nearby historic Sherwood Point Lighthouse, or are curled up with a favorite book on the dock or in front of the fireplace, the closeness with nature and time spent with your closest loved ones at Robertson’s Cottages at Idlewild will leave a genuine and lasting impression in your hearts.brbrLong time visitors and passing through vacationers alike are regularly heard describing Robertson’s as their ‘happy place’, their ‘home in Idlewild’ or, ‘a little slice of heaven on earth’...that being said, we would like to take this opportunity to be clear and direct about the practical details and realities of life at Robertson’s Cottages at Idlewild. We are new to managing this property for our family and we appreciate your unconditional understanding as we attentively and heartily navigate the ins, outs, ups and downs of anything and everything that arises with(in) these remarkable, rustic and vintage (OLD) cottages. brSometimes the sink drips and sometimes the shower leaks. There are leftover rust stains in the claw foot tubs from generations of use and the vintage bed frames tend to wobble. The fireplaces and wood stoves are decades old, time tested and insurance approved. Be weary of the wind and green wood sold. Smoke MAY enter your cottage when in use - if so give the 'cracking an ol' window trick' a try to see if that helps. brbrWe do not provide firewood, bed sheets, pillow covers, bath towels, beach towels, toiletries, hair dryers, cable television or pantry items other than salt & pepper. Not a single one of our cottages available includes air conditioning. All of the cottages feature ‘almost’ all original windows to finagle open, a rejuvenating harbor breeze and a few beloved fans to push the midsummer air around on the most humid nights. Traditionally, this area is known as “Nature’s Air Conditioned Vacationland”...but if it's sweaty o'clock and you have reached a point of physical, mental or emotional discomfort, we highly recommend a good ol’ fashioned dip in the lake. Nothing soothes a sweaty body or nurtures an inner child more than jumping off the end of the dock!brbrThe wilderness is right outside and all around us. A stay in Idlewild means experiencing nearly the full spectrum of the natural world. Animals of Idlewild you may encounter during your stay include, but certainly aren't limited to, black squirrels, flying squirrels, red squirrels, regular (grey) squirrels, bats, Bubba (Robertson’s resident Bulldog), bunnies, chipmunks, deer, foxes, muskrats, mice, opossums, porcupines, raccoons, skunks and woodchucks...not to mention a PLETHORA of native and migrating birds, a variety of scaly slithery friends (who at times choose slither swimming as a means of transportation from one destination to the next) and bugs. Bugs have zero restrictions in Idlewild. Occasionally you may find a spider in the shower, experience the delightful buzz of a mosquito near your ear, or meet our little friends the gnats who are known for squeaking through screens in the evenings if lights are left on.brbrAs you mentally prepare for a stay at Robertson’s, taking a moment to visualize this experience as ‘camping’ in conjunction with the MODEST amenities of a charcoal grill, coffee maker, refrigerator, stove and oven, cookware, tableware, microwave, mattress, pillows, extra blankets, a VERY small television and DVD player, flush toilets, warm showers, walls and a roof over your head, we feel you will have a memorable experience. If you’re looking for a refined, air conditioned, materially pristine and virtually bugless place to vacation, we fully honor that desire and sincerely support your decision to choose accommodations with one of the many facilities available in Sturgeon Bay. We feel a stay at Robertson’s Cottages truly all comes back to those looking to reconnect to a simpler time, a time before all things instant and wireless...an uninterrupted, slower time, deeply rooted in all things natural and nostalgic.brbr*PLEASE READ*brbr Pre Season (Beginning of May - June 20), Peak Season (June 20 - August 22) & Post Season (August 22 - End of October) brbrThere is a two night minimum stay for all Pre and Post Season dates. During Peak Season there is a minimum 7 night stay requirement, arriving on Saturday and leaving the following Saturday.brbrPlease Bring: Bed sheets, pillow covers, bath and hand towels, beach towels, toiletries, hair dryer, and pantry items.brbrPet Policy: Dogs are warmly welcomed guests at Robertson’s. Stunning Luxury Home on the Sandy Beach Shores of Lake Michigan!!

Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, United States

Experience sunrises out your kitchen door and infinite exquisite views of Lake Michigan from this stunning 4-bdrm, 5.5 bath luxury estate. This 5,000+ sq. ft. home sits on the sandy shores allowing you to build sand castles, take romantic walks on the beach, or have the time of your life swimming and frolicking in the water, only steps from the backdoor. Create endless family memories in the best home on Door County's lake side between Cave Point and the Canal. The home is simply jaw dropping!brbrMain LevelbrWhen you first walk into the home, you'll be welcomed with a 30 ft vaulted ceiling, showcasing the Lake's view. The main level has a large living room with plush white carpeting and furniture, along with two leather swivel chairs for great mornings enjoying your coffee while gazing at the lake. brbrThe kitchen is large and modern, equipped with an oversize Viking stove and refrigerator, dishwasher, Keurig coffee machine, blender and just about anything else you would need for a fantastic family dining experience. The kitchen also has a walkout to the outside deck overlooking the lake. The kitchen table pictured shows seating for six, but with additional leaves, the table can easily seat 10-12 (extra leaves and chairs on lower level). brbrContinuing on the main floor, there's a powder room right off the kitchen along with a laundry room equipped with a one washer (2023) and two dryers (2023). There's a second bathroom right off the laundry room (mudroom) that has a shower allowing you to clean up from outside before you enter the living area. This is extremely convenient, helping to keep the house clean from sand and outside debris.brbr2nd FloorbrThis floor has three bedrooms on it. brbrThe first is a large 20x25 bedroom with a king size bed and three-twin size beds. There's some plusses and minuses with this room. It's the largest by far, but it's the only bedroom on this floor that does not overlook the lake. Instead it overlooks the front on the home (large pine trees), which is still beautiful, but for those of you looking for a bedroom with a lake view, this is not the one. The second negative is the bathroom is not connected. It's right next door to the room, but you do have to leave the bedroom to get to it . brbrThe 2nd and 3rd bedrooms on the this floor are pretty much replicas. They both are about the same size, they both have queen beds, a full bathroom connected to it and both have lake views.brbrLower LevelbrThe lower level has one bedroom, a full bath, a game room and a family sitting room.brbrAlthough this is the lower level, it has several windows facing east, allowing for a substantial amount of natural sunlight. The bedroom has a queen bed, with a bathroom next to it (not connected). It has plush white carpeting in it with a beautiful picture of a lighthouse.brbrThe game room includes a pool table, table hockey game, an automated Mahjong table, a dart board, basketball game, and my favorite, a table hockey game. You'll spend hours being entertained here.brbrThe BackyardbrMy guess is the backyard will be used the most while you're on your Door County excursion. There's three main areas of use. brbrThe first is the patio deck. There's two large areas to sit, dine, meditate and enjoy the lake views. The deck is equipped with lawn chairs, a gas fire pit and a high-end BBQ for grilling. brbrThe second area is the grass field between the deck and the beach. You'll come off the deck on to a 50' x 100' leveled grass field allowing you to build snowmen in the winter, play frisbee or catch in the summer or just lay there and listen to the crashing waves of Lake Michigan. brbrThe third would be the beach and water. In Door County on the Lake Michigan side, there are only a few patches of lakefront homes that have the luxury of a sandy beach. Our's is one them. The sandy beach runs south from our home to The Glidden Lodge , seven houses down. To the north of us, the beach runs all the way to Cave Point, about a 45 minute walk. Enjoy taking beach walks, inner-tubing the waves, finding rocks and shells or just sun tanning with the sound of the waves in front of you.brbrIn Walking Distancebr1. Glidden Lodge Beach Resort (5 min walk)br2. The Hitching Post Bar & Grill (10 min walk)br3. Whitefish Bay State Dunes Park (15 min walk)br4. Cave Point County Park (45 min walk)brbrGlidden Lodge Beach Resort has a waterfront restaurant open year round which makes it very convenient to have a place to eat and drink within a five minute walk. After a nice day of activities at the beach, what a perfect way to end the day walking to your waterfront restaurant to have a glass of cabernet, while enjoying great food. Having an establishment like this only a few doors away, is a huge bonus. brbrThe Hitching Post Bar & GrillbrComfort food within a two block walk. Typically opened regularly for the summer and fall, with limited hours in the winter & spring. brbrWhitefish Bay State Dunes ParkbrTen minutes to the north of the home down the streetbrbrCave Point County ParkbrWe'd recommend driving for this nature extravaganza, but if you're a walker (or kayaker), this is about 45-60 min just north down the beach. I've personally kayaked to Cave Point from the home and it's about a solid hour each way. What an experience though. To see Cave Point from the water instead of land gives you an entirely different perspective. brbrMechanicsbrThe house has a new roof, HVAC and a backup generator installed in 2023. brbrUnfortunately, we do not allow pets. Although we love pets, and donate to several animal organizations, this particular home would not be conducive for animals. The house is decorated with plush white carpeting and furniture. You could imagine with the sandy conditions on & near the premises, it would be a cleaning nightmare guest to guest if pets were allowed. The good side, especially if you're allergic to pets, the house is pet free. It's immaculately cleaned by a professional team after each stay, allowing you to enjoy the home as if it's a five-star hotel. brbrTop Door County recommendations:br1. Waterfront Restaurant in Sister Baybr2. Glidden Lodge Waterfront Restaurantbr3. Bluefront Cafe in downtown Sturgeon Baybr4. YMCA in Sturgeon Bay for you gym freaks (I'm one of them)br5. Sweetie Pies in Fish Creek (Cherry is my favorite)br6. Hands on Art Studio in Fish Creek (converted barn doing crafts with the kids will never be forgotten)br7. The Lavender Fields on Washington Island during the blooming season (July )br8. Chop restaurant in Sister Baybr9. Barringer's Restaurant in Fish Creekbr10. Kick Coffee, downtown Sturgeon Bay (try the baked oatmeal)br11. Kayaking in Whitefish Bay (Hopefully you have a Hobie Kayak. If you know, you know).brbrIn ending, never worry about when to book your stay. Every season brings different experiences to your life. One of my favorite times in Door County is when it snows 20 inches. I shoot to the YMCA to get my workout in, hit Kick Coffee for my baked oatmeal and enjoy the day building snowmen with the kids. brbrRegardless of the season, you'll walk away understanding that every hour the canvas from your living room window will change. The thunderstorm, the 15 degrees below zero, the bluest sunny day, and the calm to the windy, will change the artwork of your sky and lake canvas. It's indescribable. brbrEnjoy.brbrbrbrbr
