Welcome to my 100 year old Whidbey Island farmhouse a quarter mile from the beach! The property is surrounded by wide open grassy farm and pasture land. We have bright sunrises behind the barns up the field to the east and beautiful sunsets over the trees and at the beach to the west. It's on the north end of Whidbey Island, about 2 miles from the main entrance to Deception Pass State Park. There is plenty of space for the whole family to experience Pacific Northwest living at it's best.brbrThe house is on the north end of Whidbey Island, well within the Olympic rain shadow that allows us to have less rainfall than most of western Washington. It's a few miles south of Deception Pass Bridge and the main gate to it's state park (most visited in Washington for a reason). The public beach 1/4 mile down the road, Moran Beach, is a 6 minute walk and has views of the Olympic Mountains, Vancouver Island, the San Juan Islands and the endless horizon. If you get lucky you may see whales!brbrThe property is spacious, cozy and relaxing. There is plenty of parking in the driveway and carport and the large fenced in yard is great for keeping the kids and dog safely having a good time. The covered porch has a nice sitting area for any time of day. Whidbey Island itself has endless scenic beaches, hiking, viewpoints, etc. Bring your bikes, kayaks, fishing gear, etc. there is so much to do!brbrLOCATION:brThe location is a great home base to explore and enjoy the endless activities in the surrounding region. The sandy beach down the road is a 6 minute walk and is perfect for a morning coffee stroll or sunset viewing. There is one neighbor across the corner whose chickens and ducks you might hear but otherwise we are surrounded by empty fields.brbrJust down the road, Deception Pass State Park has fishing, lake swimming, miles of beaches, trails and epic viewpoints on both sides of the bridge. Cornet Bay is a few miles away with 3 boat launches and a public dock and is a nice spot to start a kayak trip or drop crab pots. The Anacortes ferry to the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island is 20 minutes north. The Keystone Ferry to Pt. Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula is 30 minutes south. Historic Ft. Casey is next to the Keystone Ferry. There are tons of smaller, hidden gems too I can point you towards.brbrThe town of Oak Harbor is closest and has more big box stuff, Walmart, fast food, Safeway and Haggen for groceries. Anacortes to the north and Coupeville further south of Oak Harbor have more in the way of fine dining and cute, touristy downtown strips.brbrVancouver BC is about 2 hours north and Seattle is about 1.5 hours south. Great weekend trip distance for either city.brbrTHINGS TO NOTE: br-There is a Navy aircraft runway on the island several miles away and you may hear and see jets/planes from time to time. Some guests love watching them go in and out over the ocean but it can be quite loud depending on the type of aircraft. Some days there is nothing but there are days where they have a lot of activity. Some call it The Sound of Freedom ;) We obviously have zero control over this but I suggest you take this into consideration if you are sensitive to loud noise. Read our reviews to see what people think of the place, for most it is not an issue.br br-This is a 100 year old farmhouse. It's cozy, rustic, minimal but comfy, not lux. I love it and everything works but there are little creaks and quirks that give it character and charm. brbr-I ask that you please remove your shoes in the house. I recommend bringing slippers to wear inside and bringing some easy on/off shoes that you can get in and out of going to and from outside. Thanks in advance.brbr-The beach down the road is awesome! It's sandy with driftwood and there are often crazy colorful sunsets. It is a public beach, however on both sides it is bordered by houses that have private rights to the beach directly in front of their house. There's enough space to feel comfortable and enjoy yourself at the public portion, but please respect the neighbors. If you want a bigger beach experience, there's about a mile long strip of the same west facing beach further north in Deception Pass State Park.brbr-Please NO DRINKS ON THE POOL TABLE to prevent spills (it's a sacred rule in the pool world!). Please try to avoid bumping the table or otherwise moving it to keep it level. Thanks!brbr-The house is out in the country as you can see, so we are on a septic system and private well. Please go easy on the toilet and only flush toilet paper.br-No smoking in house or pool table room. Baker, the Cascades, the harbor and city lights! Oak Harbor is small enough to be quaint but large enough for all of the conveniences! With a charming downtown area to satisfy everyone and many fun and entertaining events throughout the year you`ll have lots of options not to mention the many sightseeing areas nearby!brbrThis home is built on a hillside with fabulous views of Mt. Baker, the harbor and city! The top floor (street level) is the available space and is newly renovated, easily accessible and very spacious!brbr- Kitchen: Full kitchen with electric cooktop, wall oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, blender, toaster, tea kettle, dishware, glassware, pots and pans... pretty much anything you might need to prepare and serve meals! And the view!brbr- Living Room: Spacious! With a queen sleeper sofa, a recliner chair and a `lift` chair. The 50` smart TV is above a cabinet with games and puzzles. The coffee table is special... it pulls apart to configure many different ways (see photos!). The gas fireplace adds ambiance! The Wifi is high speed. And the view!brbr- Bedroom: Huge master bedroom with a large walk-in closet. The king size bed is a `sleep number` bed with each side having it`s own setting. There are 2 swivel rockers and a sliding door leads out to the semi private (it can be accessed from the main deck/balcony) deck with a double glider to sit and enjoy the view! Did I mention the view !brbrBathrooms: The master bathroom is large and has 2 rooms. The outer room and vanity contains a wonderful soaking tub! Along with a sink, counter, cabinet with lots of mirrors! The inner room contains the Kohler low toilet, a taller vanity sink, cabinet and the walk-in shower. brThe half-bath (powder room) is near the front entry and has the basic sink and toilet. Sorry, no view in the bathrooms! Lol!brbrDeck/Balcony/patio: This wonderful, covered patio has a gas BBQ and a table and chairs to relax, sit and have your glass of wine (or coffee) and enjoy that incredible view! Mt. Baker, the harbor, city lights at night... Just so fabulous!brbrParking: Plenty of parking! A space right in front of the garage near the front door and loads of parking on the street (where there is also a wonderful view!)!brbrLaundry: In its own room, is the full size washer and dryer with laundry `sheets` (instead of detergent) and dryer sheets, too! For your use! And there is even a little bit of a view out the window in the side door! :-)brbr* Activities *brDeception Pass Bridge (one of the most photographed!) and the surrounding area is a must to explore!brbrPBY Museum is really well done with the history of Oak Harbor AND there is a plane to see in real life! brbrFort Ebey and Fort Casey (from WW2) are just a short drive away. brbrHistoric Coupeville (the oldest city is Washington) is just 10 miles south. br brAnacortes, on Fidalgo Island is fun to explore. brbrPort Townsend (on the Olympic Peninsula is a fun ferry ride (reservations are recommended for that ferry unless you walk on).brbrGuest have access to the entire top floor (street level) except the garage.brbrI like to give my guests plenty of privacy so you most likely won`t be seeing me and you can just feel like you`re right at home. I depend on the Airbnb message center for communication so be sure to turn on notifications so you`ll be sure to get my messages. And I will look for your messages there as well!brbrThis neighborhood is single family homes on a hillside with amazing views! It is a quiet one but we are also living in a Navy Air community so those wonderful jet pilots need to practice. They rarely fly over the house (maybe once a year) but you can hear the noise as they practice their touch-and-goes! Its the Sound of Freedom! Just down the hill is Walmart and Safeway - easy walking distance if you`re so inclined!brbrA car is a must for this location although the bus system does run the entire island and is free of charge. Parking for the house is super easy - right in front! And there is plenty of parking on the street as well!brbrWe live in a Naval Air Station community so occasionally the jets fly overhead. The normal flight pattern is wider around the city but sometimes they fly over which is very cool to watch!br• Please take off your shoes when inside the home.br• The neighborhood’s quiet hours are from 10pm to 8am.br• Please turn off AC/HEATING/LIGHTS when you go out (except the front porch light so you can see when you come back!).br• Please close and lock all windows and doors when you leave the property.br• Visitors are allowed if they do not spend the night.br• Pets are allowed on a case by case basis ($125 fee).br• No smoking inside; you may use the parking lot/street.br• No illegal substances are allowed.br• Please separate waste from recyclables in the labeled bins provided.br• No food or drinks in the bedrooms.br• No candles or other open flames.br• We do not allow parties in the home.br• Please only throw toilet paper in the toilet; there is a trash can beside it for everything else.br• If you break or damage something, please let us know and together we can arrange for its replacement or repair.
