Our dock stays in the water year round, though in the winter months, some traversing over rocky banks is necessary (my kids love exploring this moonscape. Steps take you down to the dock and lake year round, but if you have guests who find stairs difficult, you can drive to the marina and pick them up there for easier access to the lake. Also, please note that the lower level of the house is accessed inside the house by a spiral staircase (there are also more gradual exterior steps). This can be blocked for young children, but parents should take note.
