In the early days, the resort was a social center serving the vacationing elite. Over the years, much of the resort was divided up and sold. Today, Lake Lucerne is a historic snap-shot in time. There is no access for fishing, swimming, or boating at Lake Lucerne. The lake is a spring fed stream with a hand laid limestone dam. Some travelers have had expectations of a large reservoir and have commented that, in their opinion, it is more of a pond. (We assume that the founders didn't like the sound of Pond Lucerne, therefore, it has always been referred to as a Lake.) Over the years moss, and other aquatic plants, have grown in the shallow end of the lake, although, the deeper end near the dam has clear, open water. Please note that this is not a commercially groomed reservoir. Lake Lucerne is a natural Ozark stream with fish, plants, and moss. It is naturally beautiful, but it is not maintained like a water feature in a botanical garden. You will be staying on the South shore of the lake. Each owner does their best to maintain the historic integrity of these small authentic log cabins. Be prepared for a narrow 1 lane road, although, it is easily navigable. We are in the Ozarks and the cabins are perched on a hill with sufficient room for a gravel road and a small driveway which will easily accommodate modern vehicles. There is sufficient space to safely drive to your cabin. The road includes a turnaround at the end, providing room for a 3 point turn.
