Chaika House was made for families and friends who want to enjoy a coastal getaway. Each wing has two bedrooms and a full bath, providing some separation if two families are sharing the space. The central part of the house features an open plan with a large, well-furnished kitchen (remodeled in 2021), dining area, and living room, so no one is excluded. A sliding door extends that space to a glassed-in porch. The Live Oak in the front provides a lovely and secluded view out the porch windows.brThe house has no immediate neighbors and the Live Oak that gives it a secluded feel, but is only a 7-minute walk to the ocean. There is a open field next to the house that frequently is visited by deer. We keep it amply, but simply furnished to keep it comfortable, affordable, and a cottage feel.brDue to our need to keep full occupancy in the peak season, we had to choose the firm cancellation policy. However, our practice is to be flexible. If we are able to replace a canceled booking for the same amount, we will happily refund the full amount. brPlease be sure to read the full description and review the rental agreement. To keep rates lower, we do not automatically provide bed sheets and towels. But we can arrange for these to be provided by our cleaning crew for a reasonable surcharge. Most guests opt to bring their own and save the cost for a couple good seafood meals.brOur local host makes sure the house is sanitized, tidy, and ready for each guest. Located at the point of a 100 foot wide gated private island, the house was built in 1986 and, as the name implies and the pictures show, is shaped like a pyramid. No where else in the State of South Carolina is there available for rent a home with the surroundings, privacy and the unspoiled view afforded by Pyramid Pointe. You will need binoculars to see any other home or person from the interior, decks or porch. No one will walk or drive by. During the busiest season you will share 2 miles of beach with 30 people and the rest of the year, often, with no one.brbr The home is four stories in height from ground level. It was nestled into the natural environment without cutting any trees and built over a pre civil war cistern. There are 3 bedrooms. The MBR and a full bath occupy the entire top level and is furnished with a king bed. A small deck faces the ocean.brbr The third level has two bedrooms, each with their own full bath One bedroom has a deck facing the ocean and a king bed, the other has two full beds and a third in the closet.brbr There is a queen sleeper sofa in the TV area on the main level. A Large deck is accessed from the sitting area and faces the ocean. There is a full bath on the first level, a medium kitchen and a large dining area. A 35 foot covered porch overlooks the Creek and the entire front of the house is glass, facing the ocean. Screens on the porch and decks are not necessary because the bugs don't come there, the height and full time breeze keep them away.brbr The entry and foyer are paved with bricks harvested from the beach over the years from the homes of the Edingsville settlement destroyed by a hurricane in the 1800’s. You will see a map of the island as it existed at that time as you climb the stairs to the second living level. From the entryway level you can see up the stairwell all the way to the fourth floor.brbr The first level contains the TV sitting area (42” plasma) , the den and a spacious dining room which is separated from the kitchen by a long bar. The bar and dining room table were made from lumber scavenged also from the old Edingsville settlement. The mantle, side table and coffee table are made from driftwood taken from the beach. The covered porch is accessed from the dining room and faces north towards the creek and Frampton inlet. brbr The covered porch has a hanging swing and two rocking chairs as well as a built in dining table and chairs. A cable rail system is used to minimize disruption of the view. brbrThe home has over 600 square feet of windows, almost all facing the ocean. It is constructed of cedar, inside and out. The furnishings are functional, not fancy. It is a beach house designed and furnished for relaxing and carefree use, not a home where you have to shower before sitting down.brbrAn infrared grill and indoor fryer are provided and the kitchen has all normal appliances and conveniences.br brIt is 3 flights of stairs from the entry door to the master bedroom, 2 to the second floor bedrooms and 1 to the main living level (as with all houses on Edisto). There is a widow’s walk on the roof which is presently unavailable to first time guests.brbrNo long walkway is needed as the dock is 30 feet from the porch. The front of the house is less than 5 feet from the marsh (the decks overhang it) and the porch side about 20 feet. Dolphins are often first spotted by someone washing dishes in the kitchen. brbrA washer and dryer are in the mechanical room on ground level.brbrSatellite TV is available downstairs and in the MBR. Each TV has a DVD player. There are no video game machines. Wireless broadband Internet is provided but we are at the “end of the line” and service can be sporadic. There is no land line phone service but At&T and Sprint service is very good and Verizon is tolerable.brbrThis is a traditional low country beach house. A beach house, not a home, just a place to stay so you can be in a place where no one else is. It is an architecturally unique, pleasant, comfortable and relaxing home designed to allow maximum enjoyment of the surroundings. You go to a place like this to be outdoors, not in. If you are expecting a home nicer than, or even as nice, as your own then this home will not be suitable for you. It was located here as a means to an end, not the destination itself. The home provides a place from which you can enjoy privacy, nature and the beauty of the natural surroundings. It is not intended to be, nor is it, at all like a beach house in a row of beach houses with manicured lawns lined up in a development. If you love the outdoors, peace and privacy and are willing to give up some comfort to get them, this home will be perfect for you.brbrEdingsville is technically an island contained within Edisto Island. Wildlife abounds here. Egrets, gulls, and fiddler crabs are the most obvious but many more fish, crabs and exotic creatures thrive here. The Ravissant brings back the memories of going to the beach when you were young. In those days, having air conditioning was a rare occurrence so the windows and doors were opened wide. Lots of the doors were even louvered to allow the ocean air to flow through the house even when closed. You could feel the ocean breeze blowing through the house all day and night. Sometimes it was so hot you would pull the mattresses out on the porch overlooking the ocean and sleep. It was just like sleeping right on the beach but much softer. Hearing the ocean waves hitting the beach at night was so relaxing. The Ravissant still has that rustic charm you’d experience way back when, but with modern updates like washer & dryer, heat and air & WiFi. brbrTwo spacious covered porches are the perfect place for hanging out after a long beach day and sipping on some sweet tea. In addition to the spacious porches and uniqueness of the interiors, the old charm of this historic home will encapsulate you and your family like many before you while you develop your own beach memories! The current owner’s are only the second family and have owned The Ravissant 47 years now and have raised children and grandchildren with many fun summers getting together “at the beach” year after year. brbrThis home is perfect for family & extended family. On the first level is the kitchen which has just been updated with cabinets and is having its first dishwasher installed this week. This opens to a lovely dining area which flows on to the family room and onto the oceanfront private covered porch. There is a laundry area with Washer/Dryer and an oceanfront bedroom which opens up to the private covered oceanfront porch; perfect for those cups of coffee watching the sunrise. There is also an additional bedroom on this level and a full bathroom. brbrOn the second level there are two more bedrooms, one oceanfront which opens to another covered porch along with the second family room. There is even another kitchen which harkens back to years ago and is perfect for another cup of coffee, toast, snacks etc . You don’t have to go downstairs to get those things if you don’t want to; “Grandma” was quite an extraordinary hostess! brbrAs with any historic beach home; it has a few little quirks, like the floors are not all exactly level. One of the guests described it well:brThis is an old school beach house and we were prepared for that. The location is wonderful and the sunrises from the porch were unparalleled, and the quirks of this house (older homes that haven’t been remodeled have a lot of them) did not deter us from enjoying our morning walks on the beach or listening to the sound of the waves each night. We prefer the nostalgia of original beach homes and the beach mixed; we like to step back in time while we still have the opportunity to do so. This space has direct access to the catwalk porch and is fantastic for taking conference calls in the sunshine with a scenic backdrop while maintaining quick and easy access to your laptop.brbrPlease note the property has good wifi connectivity for a remote resort-style area but speeds are variable. This may be slower than preferred for remote working setups if you require heavy software or other atypically large files and are accustomed to commercial speed internet. Normal internet connectivity and communications typically work great unless multiple guests are attempting to stream numerous devices concurrently. Edisto as a region does experience outright disruptions to internet service. We have a back-up hotspot installed to provide redundancy in the event the hard connection goes out but we cannot guarantee internet connectivity or speed given the remote area.brbrPETS: We love and welcome well-behaved pets and want the furry-members of your party to enjoy Jungle Surf too. Please note to offset the additional cleaning required from pet visits there is a flat $200 pet fee charged through for stays of 2 nights or less. For longer stays, the pet fee is $50/animal per night charged separately and the $200 is credited towards this amount. More information is available in the guidebook regarding our pet policy but guests with pets will not be allowed to check in for longer stays without paying the pet fee.
