The mountains in the northern part of the state appealed to them (Regina saw mountains every day of her life growing up), but when the realtor took him to a small property between two tiny towns in the Blue Ridge range, David was a bit hesitant. brbr“We always lived in the metro area, and originally didn’t want to look that far out,” David tells me. “But when I walked up to that ridge (where the RV is now) and took in the view, I immediately pulled out my phone to write Regina a message.”brbrThat text to his wife said, “This is it.”br***br“We fell in love with that piece of land before we even walked the property,” David says of their three acres. And now, just a few years later, they’re full-time Dahlonegans. brbr“We live just a couple of miles from town, on a peaceful mountain road, and we love it here. Being from the city as we are, Dahlonega is a ‘Hallmark town,’” David smiles. “It’s homey, locally owned, and has its own quaint and quiet personality.”brbr***brIn the RV there is a roll of paper that guests use to leave notes and comments about their stay. David still has every single one. He gets the pile of unbleached papers out of the closet and reads some to me, pride and joy in his voice. The view and sunset are a common theme. “Thank you for the beautiful mountain escape,” reads one. “Peaceful, beautiful, spectacular!” is another. “Serene getaway, sunset amazing!” And my favorite, the exclamatory and simple, “S’mores! Hiking! Hospitality!” brbrIt’s that hospitality piece that drives David and Regina. They love welcoming people to their adopted home, and the RV atop the ridge. When I made the mistake of calling it a “trailer,” David corrected me.brbr“Calling this a ‘trailer,’” he says, “is like calling The Hilton a Motel 6,” he laughs. “It’s spacious, comfortable, and clean. I mean, we keep it almost too clean — obsessively clean! And the kitchen… We had a legit chef stay there once, and you should have seen some of the feasts he whipped up in that kitchen. ‘Trailer!’” He chuckles.brbr***brbrWhen there are no guests staying in the “Hilltop Hilton,” David and Regina head up to the ridge around sunset time with their dogs (yes, they’re dog people, and would love to host yours, too, providing they’re on the smaller side — see The Small Print for details), light a fire in the stone pit, and open a bottle of local wine. brbr“We sit there, rocking on those big swings, listening to the wind chimes on the breeze. Sometimes we see local critters — deer, turkeys, coyotes, rabbits, ermine, even a black bear every once in a blue… It’s downright spectacular. Once full dark comes, you look up and there’s stars galore, and you can see the Milky Way.”brbrSpectacular, indeed. brbr~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~brbr~The Small Print~brbrBEFORE YOU BOOK:br-Area wide power outages are common in the mountains and no refunds will be given if an area wide power outage happens during your stay. Cabin

Charming cabin in the glorious mountains of North Georgia.

Dahlonega, Georgia, United States

Please read the notes at the end of this description.brbrThis property personifies the word peace and serenity. The cabin is secluded in a wooded lot with 'surround-sound' made by the rushing Chestatee River. The house is made from 'all-natural' materials with all wood walls, floors, and ceilings down to a river-stone fireplace. It's like having the outdoors inside with you. The house has 3 bedrooms which sleeps 8. Upstairs is surrounded on three sides by decks. Downstairs has a long deck facing the river. The house overlooks the Chestatee River. Down at the river is a screened in porch with fans, a fire pit, tables and chairs. The river is a great place to read, fish, sleep in the hammock, picnic, cook over the campfire or cook on the charcoal grill as you enjoy the peace of the river. The river area is like being in another world where you and your friends or family members will feel like they are the only people in the world. You will enjoy the house but be enchanted by the river and surrounding area. There is a charcoal grill on the left hand side of the deck Please bring your own charcoal and empty the ash over the railing.brbrThe driveway down to the river is steep. If you choose to drive down there, be sure to keep your foot on the gas as you drive up the driveway to avoid getting stuck. If you are concerned if your car will make it back up, please just walk down the driveway.brbrThe driveway also has some cracks from being uprooted by trees. Please drive very, very slowly especially as you enter the forked driveway to the cabin. We are working on fixing it, but there is a concrete shortage. brbrThe cabin uses a well for its water supply. Please space out showers and conserve water so the well has a chance to pump more water into the cabin. The cabin is also on septic tank. Please only flush septic-safe toilet paper and use the trash can for anything else. brbrNote: There is a $25 charge per person for each person over 6 people.brbrNote: Dogs are allowed. Dog must be totally house-trained and cannot be in beds or furniture. Please be respectful of this rule. There is a $50 fee for the first pet and $20 for each additional pet. brPlease contact owner for further details and limitations. brbrNote: The cancellation policy that I use is in the rental agreement. My cancellation policy is more lenient than the one shown on the listing.

Cottage

Waterfall Cottage within sight & sound of Cane Creek Falls, 2BR 2BA

Dahlonega, Georgia, United States

Our Waterfall Cottage is a 2BR/2BA vacation home within sight and sound of the iconic 50 ft tall Cane Creek Falls. Large screened porch, wood-burning fireplace, WiFi and more on Cane Creek. It is located in the very unique and special location inside the security gated several hundred acre Glisson Camp and Retreat Center. There is a small enclave of privately owned cottages, which are accessible at all times. Ours is the second one downstream at the base of the falls. A large screened porch with dining table and comfortable seating area and other viewing areas will give you the sense of really being with nature as the cottage is about fifty feet from Cane Creek. Lots on either side are vacant and Falls Mountain is behind the cottage. It has two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed and two full baths, fireplace (operational October through March) & we supply Duraflame 3 hour logs (1 per night), free WiFi, Smart TV via Amazon Fire TV stick with YouTube TV, Netflix & Prime Video, land-line phone with unlimited USA long distance (cell service is spotty), lower covered deck with porch swing. Breakfast is not provided, but we do provide coffee and all the basic needs for cooking. There are no dishwasher or laundry facilities. We provide camp chairs for you to take to sit by the falls. We have a BBQ and provide charcoal. Cane Creek is a designated trout stream and is now open year-round, but you must have a valid Georgia license to fish. We use the Waterfall Cottage as our own get-away when not rented and thoroughly enjoy spending time there. There are hiking trails all around the camp and maps are located on signs at the welcome center and downstream of the cottage. The falls area is rich in history as a Native American gathering place with netting holes and petroglyphs etched in the rocks by the falls. It was also the site of a very early large water wheel electric generating plant. Much of the time you will find the cottage to be a very quiet and peaceful get-away. The camp does have retreats many weekends, but the main buildings and their cabins are not located near our cottage with the exception of the Program Center, which was designed after the gold mining structures of Dahlonega’s history.brbrIt is about 5 minutes from the Dahlonega Square.brbrSome things for you to consider before renting this very special cottage: 1. Strictly limited to four people maximum including children, 2. absolutely no pets, 3. absolutely no smoking anywhere either inside the cottage or outside as the camp is tobacco free, 4. the parking area is about 90 yards from the cottage – you park and then walk toward the falls and then across the foot bridge in front of the falls and then up a path 5. two night minimum with some holidays requiring 3 niights. 6. The second bedroom has private access to the second bathroom and screened porch and there is a door between that area and the master bedroom, but access from the second bedroom to the kitchen/living room is through the master bedroom, unless you go through the screened porch, to the lower deck and up the outside steps. 7. There are about 10 private cottages along the creek inside the 400 acre Methodist owned Camp Glisson Retreat Center. In 2026 from May 24th to July 24th there are youth summer camp sessions from Sunday afternoon until Friday noon. The camp owns the falls, creek and hiking trails. We ask that guests give young campers their space while they are enjoying the outdoors during organized activities Sunday afternoon through Friday morning during summer camp. During summer camp guests can use the immediate waterfall area anytime the young campers are not there, which happens several times a day and during meal times.Guests can see the falls from the cottage and especially from the Adirondack chair area. Camp trails are closed during summer camp, but there are many hiking trails nearby and many lead to other waterfalls. Friday afternoon through Sunday morning during summer camp there are no children in camp, only the camp counselors. So, guests are welcome to use the immediate falls area. 8. We have 2 exterior security cameras aimed at the cottage door and the lower deck. There are no interior cameras. We turn the cameras on when the cottage is vacant. We sometimes turn on the cottage door camera until guests check in so we know they have arrived safely. We then turn them off.
