It is a 1.2 mile walk or ride to the Big Tree (1000+ year old Live Oak) along the way you will experience wildlife, fishing, kayaking, biking, birdwatching, and possibly an alligator sighting. Endangered whooping cranes nest a block away along with so many more birds to see, so bring your camera. The Aransas Wildlife Refuge is directly across St. Charles Bay, and the refuge visitor center is a short drive away, and well worth the trip.
