Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, United States
This high-end rental home in Gettysburg has earned its 5-Star Customer Rating by our valued guests since we opened our doors just a little over 8 years ago as carried on our multiple rental hosting companies. brbrDowntown Civil War Home ~~~~ 2 Blocks From Lincoln Square, this historic vacation getaway is tailored for discriminating guests who desire an authentic Gettysburg experience, while catering to all your 21st-century comforts allowing you and your friends/family to enjoy exclusive and private occupancy of the entire house.brbr Our circa 1839 York Street Manor stood as a brick sentinel in the path of retreating Union soldiers on July 1, 1863. Confederate troops camped in these very yards while Confederate General Ewell planned his repeated strategy to take Culp’s Hill (that house only several houses east of here). brbrThe York Street Manor, owned by Cecilia Codori (of the prominent Codori’s of Gettysburg), was where Cecilia and her husband Joseph called home from 1850 to 1865. In 1865, the house’s proud new owner was William F. Baker, Company E of the 87th Pennsylvania Volunteers. It is awesome to think an actual Civil War soldier owned and lived in this housebr br After Baker's ownership, in 1870, title to the home transferred to another famous family from Gettysburg, John and Catherine Culp, with the road to Culp’s Hill (East Confederate Avenue) just two blocks south of the house. brbrMemoirs of a 16 year old girl who lived across the street (Liberty Hollinger) recalled she and her father yelling at the Confederate soldiers looting the unoccupied homes across from her's, and how General Robert E. Lee himself and his command paused their horses in front of these houses, surveying their strength. A temporary Confederate grave was located in the backyard of Cecilia and Joseph’s property. brbrNestled only two blocks from the heart of downtown Gettysburg’s Lincoln Square, enjoy the antebellum homes along York Street as you leisurely stroll to restaurants, pubs, eateries, retail shoppes and antique stores, including the nostalgic Majestic movie theater. brbrOur Accommodations: brbrEach of our three bedrooms has its own private on-suite bath, and the house provides you with not one, but two master suites. brbrMaster Suite 1: The first floor Lincoln Master Bedroom boasts a king size memory foam bed fit for a Presidential stay. An extra pillow top auto-inflate air bed for 7th guest in Codori parlor for a small additional charge. brbrRelax on the 2nd floor screened in porch, or enjoy your favorite drink on the back yard porch.
