The Greatroom is built directly over the brackish fishpond. The railing separates you from the pond with both fresh fish (Koi) swimming with saltwater local fish and turtles. The water is a mix of fresh and salt, and both types of fish are able to thrive in this microenvironment. brbrYou can feed the fish, just watch or you can walk down the stone steps and actually enter the pond, swimming with the fish or just dangling your feet in the water. Enjoy the cycle of the water rising and falling with the ebb and flow of the tides. brbrNote that the two stairways connecting upstairs to downstairs are both outside the house, and that the single bathroom serving downstairs is accessed from the outside. It is recommended that small children (under 10) should probably stay downstairs with adult supervision.brbrDOWNSTAIRS BEDROOM 4:brMedium sized bedroom with low (6 2) ceiling, this tiled floor room offers a queen size teak bed set with tropical finishes and matching bureau. Both floor lamp and table lamps on side tables. No ceiling fans downstairs, circulation is via windows and the open walls by the fishpond.brbrDOWNSTAIRS BEDROOM 5:brAnother medium sized bedroom with low headroom, this carpeted bedroom has still another teak queen-sized bedroom set with matching bureau and a full-sized mirror. Side tables with lamps and a floor lamp provide lighting, while the single window provides mostly circulation. brbrLAUNDRY ROOM:brThe tiled floor laundry room has a washer (electric) and dryer (gas) and laundry facilities. With windows on two walls, this is the brightest and airiest of the enclosed rooms downstairs.brbrCOVERED LANAI:brOutside the back of the home on the ground floor is a covered lanai, underneath the second floor deck. With a picnic table and some folding chairs, this is a good place to hang out when it is rainy outside or while you wait for the paddlers to return. brbrTHE BOATHOUSE:brAn enclosed room over the pond which has storage area for the three kayaks (two singles and one tandem) plus paddles and accessories that come with the home. Additional water accessories are stored in a storage area portion of the Greatroom. It is quite convenient and easy to get the kayaks from the boathouse to the Ice Pond, and vice versa. brbrOUTSIDE BATHROOM:brThe bathroom serving the downstairs as well as the covered lanai and deck is in the rear corner of the home, and accessed via a tile pathway. One of the bedrooms still has a window AC for those who need a little bit more. Opening the many windows and enjoying the fresh ocean breeze satisfies most guests. Our home was originally built a long time ago but it is modern while maintaining the character of a traditional Hawaii beach home. You will see geckos on the property and see the ocean horizon and birds from our picture windows. We almost always see sea turtles at the nearby beaches. It's best to drive to the beach first to ensure you are comfortable with the walk, especially if you have children with you.brbrWe offer 2 bedrooms and 2 baths with an office/library in our ocean view home with great snorkeling beach access. The beaches usually have calm waters, excellent snorkeling conditions, shade, tide pools and green sea turtles and are all just across the street with a short walk. The coastline is a string of beach parks, some with black sand and many with water access. This is a local playground. The water near the shore is clear with excellent snorkeling. Sea turtles come in to rest on the rocks across the street from the house.brbrThe front bedroom looks down the driveway at the ocean, as does the shower in the attached bath. The luxurious queen bedroom is spacious with good linens, robes, a ceiling fan and a floor fan.br brThe master bedroom is quite large. In the back of the house looking at the lava rock seating in the back yard. The elegant king bed has fine linens and the room has a ceiling fan, a floor fan, and walk in closet. The attached bath has been kept in the charming 1930's style with updated fixtures and amenities. brbrThe house has a separate ohana (attached loft apartment) complete with a bedroom, half-kitchen, walk in shower and bathroom, living and dining area with the loft bedroom. (Note that this is not suitable for children.) The kitchen cabinets are koa wood, a prized Hawaii wood. The loft bedroom is paneled in lauhala, a local weave from the hala tree. The ohana has a kitchen with espresso maker, toaster oven (no oven or stove). The ohana living room faces the green back yard and tree ferns and has a private entrance.
