As in any natural outdoor experience, there is a possibility that bugs could enter the aframe and bathrooms. We do our best with natural remedies, but we are a pollinator friendly farm. The obvious thing to do is visit Mammoth Cave National Park! Lots of hiking in park as close as 800 feet from the campground. Horses are welcome at our campground, we provide stalls and the park trail across the road is horse friendly. There are several tours to choose from if you’re, you may want to choose a couple. We recommend getting tickets in advance as they do sell out. (Visitor center 20-25 minutes via Green River Ferry route, call for schedule, 40 minutes without)brbrTrail rides are provided at Double J Stables. (5 minutes) Advance reservation recommended. brbrNearby there is Hickory Cabins, it’s more fast food type, and only couple couple minutes away. Opening for the season April -November, The Blue Holler Restaurant serves up German and American fare. Bee spring has KY Rock grill. Bouys at Wax Marina is a fun lake view experiencebrbrThe Feedmill in Leitchfield (35 min) has good breakfast & lunch & there’s a Mexican restaurant, mi Camino Real, that’s good in that area too. There’s also a Peddler’s Mall in Leitchfield if that interests you. brbrIn Bowling Green (50-55 min) there’s the corvette museum & lost river cave tour if you’re looking for more to do. brbrCave city (across the ferry 25 min) has tourist friendly activities including various caves that have been open since the early 1900s. Kayaking tours available down Green River. There are attractions such as Dinosaur World, Kentucky Down Under, & Mammoth Cave Adventure. A favorite stop for me is Leo’s woodworking as you exit the park toward cave city.brbrI recently went to a cave tour in Horse Cave called hidden river cave (40 min) which was kinda neat. They have antique shops nearby in the little downtown.brbr10-15 minutes away is an Amish town called Cub Run. They have a couple shops, the Variety Shoppe & Detweilers, which has a small bakery and deli and everything from gardening to furniture. There is a separate hunting & fishing store.

In case you forget something, there are several local mini markets (Webb’s and Sailings) close by and a Dollar General Market about 10 minutes (5 miles) away. One of the local Amish stores has amazing donuts on Saturday mornings and a Walmart is just 30 minutes away in Leitchfield. brbrPlease be advised the US Corps of Engineers own Nolin Lake and is used for flood control. Lake access is best during the summer as the Corps lowers the lake (25 to 30 feet) starting late October. Due to flood control aspects of the lake, the walk up and down to the water is steep, and some guests might find it difficult. Winter pool is 25-30 feet below summer pool. Which makes the lake inaccessible during winter months. During rainy seasons the lake has been known to go 25 ft above summer pool. Also making the lake hard to access. We try very hard to keep the access to the lake available but sometimes the levels change drastically and are hard to keep up. We do the best we can. The water levels can be checked at the Nolin River website.brbrOwners reside next door and the property has exterior security cameras.brbrTwo dogs (under 50 pounds each) are allowed for a pet fee of $75/trip. Other activities nearby include cave tours, museums, golf, hiking, horseback riding, shopping and live theatre.brbrWe are located only 8 miles from the north entrance of Mammoth Cave National Park and only 30 / 45 minutes away from other show-caves and area attractionsbrbrPlease be advised Nolin Lake is owned by the US Corp of Engineers and is used for flood control. Lake access is best during the summer as the Corp lowers the lake (25 / 30 feet) starting late October. Due to the flood control aspect of the lake, the walk up and down to the water can be steep and some guest might find it difficult.brbrBoat parking at the dock is no longer available as the Corp of Engineers restricts rented properties from using a permitted boat dock. There is a boat ramp 1/4 mile away that you can launch and recover your boat very easily with parking at the ramp (parking can be limited on weekends). Swimming is available off the shoreline here, gradual entry and somewhat beachy in front of the house.
