This grand 5-bedroom home, located on the most famous residential street of Savannah, was built in 1883 for the former Chairman of the Chatham County Commission, Joseph J. Dale. A beautiful Italianate exterior with foot-thick walls encloses 4200 square feet of living space on 3 stories.The home boasts 12-foot ceilings, original fireplaces, and heart pine floors. br brThe main entrance is on the parlor level, with bedrooms on both the top floor above and garden level below. A porch adorned with wooden flourishes covers the front door. Next to the entrance, a plaque designates the historic landmark status of the property.  Inside, the parlor has floor-to-ceiling bay windows from which to spot the occasional horse-drawn carriage on tour.  An archway frames the formal dining room and table with seating for 10, lighted by the soft twinkling of a magnificent crystal chandelier. At the back of the house is a gourmet kitchen outfitted with Kitchen Craft cupboards, two farmers porcelain sinks, sub-zero refrigerator, and a Thermador commercial stove. A breakfast area seats six and a balcony overlooks the courtyard. br brHead up the banister stairway to find 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms on the top floor.  The front room contains a king bed and comfortable chairs where you can read while looking out on the live oaks of Jones. A middle bedroom includes a queen bed, armoire, and skylight. Although it's an integral part of Historic Downtown Savannah, Gordon Inn has recently been remodeled extensively indoors. The pool is open much of the year, taking exception to a handful of federal holidays. The neighboring historic square, named for George Washington, is on Houston Street near the site of the old Trustees Garden. brbrbrbrIn 2004, after sitting vacant since 1992, Luxury Living Savannah purchased delapidated building and began it's indepth restoration that took a few years and painstaking work. The Washington Square property was given a Preservation Award from the Historic Savannah Foundation in 2006 for the outstanding accomplishement in preserving this historic landmark home.brbrbrbrEven after being abandoned for over a decade, the home miraculously retained the vast majority of its original details! The original stair case was intact. It retained the heart pine wood planks throughout. All the doors and windows had the original hardware. Parts of the home feature bead board wainscoting, fireplaces and mantles all saved and restored. brbrbrbrThe painstaking restoration was conducted by stringent guidelines laid out by the Department of Natural Resource in Washington D.C.
