The cottage was once owned by one of the fishing families of Door County and it was built in the mid 1920’s. It has been painstakingly restored to one of the quaintest, most delightful cottages in the area. brbrGills Rock is in northern Door County, away from the hustle and bustle of some of the other towns in the County. It is significantly quieter, with less traffic. It is certainly possible to come to Schwandt Cottage and stay a week without leaving....it is just hard to leave after you get there, regardless of the season. brbrThe view is outstanding! From the living room, the deck, the kitchen, and the private beach, guests can watch the changing moods of Green Bay, local fisherman coming and going, the incredible sunset which always provides an outstanding skyscape at the end of the day, and an occasional glimpse of a freighter passing the Door. brbrA 3-day minimum is required beginning on Sept. 14-Nov. 6. Please check our calendar for availability. A 3-day minimum is also required in April and May 2021. The large and bright kitchen and dining area are well stocked and overlook the wooded backyard which has a gas grill, outdoor table and eating area, and a fire pit. In the off-season (Sept. 20 - May 20) we provide access to a private waterfront patio located at a separate property diagonally across the street. a 1-minute walk away (the waterfront patio area is not available in the summer). In the summer, beautiful Gills Rock waterfront park and its lake access and amazing lake views is just a lovely 5-minute walk away at Mariners Park. This home is situated close to the water with views from the tower room WITH A WONDERFUL western facing 12X15 foot deck. A great area for sailing, biking, hiking, shopping, galleries, theatre, star gazing, vegging out, and my personal favorite (check out the photo) salmon fishing. brbrThe home is beautifully appointed with comfortable overstuffed furniture,hardwood floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, cathedral ceilings and much more. According to our past guests the best feature of the house is the huge screened-in porch off the kitchen. New in August 2018 a generator has been added to the home so that you will never be without electricity, Wifi, or air conditioning etc. brbrNew in 2016....If you would like to book a 3 hour boat tour ($500) contact the owner.brbrThis is not a 'bare bones' rental unit. This is our family vacation home which we would like to share as time permits.brbrPreferably rentals will be Sat-Sat and if you click on the calendar you will be able to tell at a glance what dates are still available.brbrPLEASE NOTE...ADDITIONAL dates may be available UPON REQUEST. Just outside this bedroom is the loft which overlooks the great room and fireplace and also is equipped with a new sleeper-sofa. brbrThe loft is an ideal space for the kids to go to play games etc. A spiral staircase will take you from the loft to the tower room....which is sure to become the kid's favorite place to hang out.......or Mom and Dad's favorite place to watch the sunsets over the gorgeous Ellison Bay waters. We added a large deck off the tower room so that you may be outside while enjoying the view over the water. brbrThe location of the home ideal. Within walking distance to the Marina, the Pioneer Store (our local grocery), galleries , shops, and restaurants. It is also a short walk to the Ellison Bay Beach with it's tennis courts, beach and playground. brbrDue to the covenants of the condo association we are not able to welcome pets.
