This historic log cabin (Doc's Hideaway) sits at the tip of the Door County peninsula in beautiful Gills Rock, surrounded by lush woods on one side and the picturesque Bay and bluffs on the other. This mid-1800’s cabin has been lovingly renovated (admire the character of the original hand scraped wood walls and ceiling beams) with all the amenities and comforts of home. New in 2022: extra fast Wifi via Starlink (up to 105 mbps) and a high efficiency ductless AC and heating system.
<br>Doc’s Hideaway has a large cozy living room with a 40 HD Smart TV (with Directv), fast WiFi, a pellet stove, a main bedroom (queen bed), a full bathroom, and a high efficiency ductless AC and heating system. The large and bright kitchen and dining area are well stocked and overlook the wooded backyard which has a gas grill, outdoor table and eating area, and a fire pit. There is a narrow stairway to the large upstairs sleeping loft with two twin beds and a large seating area.

The cabin has views of the lake (the cabin is not waterfront, the lake is across the street). In the off-season (Sept. 20 - May 20) we provide access to a private waterfront patio located at a separate property diagonally across the street. a 1-minute walk away (the waterfront patio area is not available in the summer). In the summer, beautiful Gills Rock waterfront park and its lake access and amazing lake views is just a lovely 5-minute walk away at Mariners Park. At the park you can sit down by the water and take in one of Door County’s most spectacular views (listen to the waves roll in, enjoy the sunset, or watch the old fishing tugs or the Island Clipper passenger ferry motor by). Or you can launch your kayaks here to explore the beautiful shoreline (this is the same Bay local kayak tours launch from).

Enjoy all that Northern Door County has to offer at Doc's Hideaway. You’re just a short walk to the Gills Rock waterfront park, the Shoreline Restaurant, Charlie's Smokehouse, the Shoreline Boat Tours, the Washington Island ferry, and boat ramps and dock space; or a quick bike ride or drive to Seaquist Orchards Farm Market, Newport State Park, Ellison Bay Beach, Door Bluff County Park, Island Orchard Cider, and numerous art galleries. Sister Bay and all of its dining, entertainment, and shopping is only 10 minutes away. In Fall, there is no better place than Gills Rock to enjoy the changing colors, while still being close to all the local festivals and farm markets. And if you’re looking for a tranquil and snowy winter getaway, this historic cabin is the perfect choice; enjoy the unsurpassed beauty of Northern Door County blanketed in snow, and the Bay covered in ice.

Had to clean up black walnut husks in order to use patio furniture. Did not appreciate lawn service fertilizing the yard when our dog was there.

A great, laid back place to recoup after biking and hiking. We loved the charm and history of the cabin and the area!

House was nice and in a great location. I spent my summers in Gills Rock when I was a child and still love coming here.

Cute, cozy, historical cabin with lake right across the street. Quiet with no neighbors directly on either side of cabin, making it feel slightly secluded.

Doc’s is awesome. Has all the amenities of home with lots of charm. Great place to take the dogs for a walk. Our second time staying here and we will be back.

This is a nice quaint cottage. Plenty of space without having to use the upstairs area. Great fall getaway.

Description and photos are accurate but would have loved better view of water and sunsets, even if no direct access to the bay. Had the quiet and other features we were looking for. Would consider renting again.

This cosy and historic VRBO was built in the late 1800’s and is steps away from the shores of Lake Michigan. We loved the location (close to Newport State Park and other northern Door attractions). Although the cottage is old, it has modern amenities and is very comfortable for a couple or a small family. We will definitely come back!
