We care a lot about maintaining good relationships with our community, so we appreciate you following these house rules during your stay.brbrLICENSE AGREEMENT: The guest booking the property must digitally sign a license agreement immediately following the reservation. The most important terms of the agreement are included below, and the guest may cancel a booking penalty free within 24 hours. If the license agreement is not completed with 24 hours then the reservation will be cancelled. The agreement will be sent via text message, so please be sure your phone number is correct before booking.brbrAGE 25 OR OLDER TO BOOK: The guest booking the property must be 25 years of age or older. We reserve the right to request a photo or scan of a government-issued photo ID. The guest who books must stay at the property--you may not book for others if you do not intend to stay at the property.brbrQUIET HOURS START AT 10 PM: Our property's quiet hours of 10 pm to 6 am are required by county ordinance and enforced by local police. If the police respond to a noise complaint, every individual on the property may face a misdemeanor criminal charge and be subject to a fine by the county of $300. Failure to abide by the county noise ordinance will result in the immediate termination of the stay without refund. brbrPast noise complaints have always come from groups of 20-somethings. If you are booking for a group of people in their twenties and you think your group may want to play loud music at any time then do not book this property or cancel your reservation if you have already booked. Find another place for your trip so you do not have your trip terminated early and without refund.brbrNOISE MONITORING AND SECURITY CAMERA: We use devices that measure volume levels throughout the property (like a smoke detector but for noise) and allow us to respond to noise nuisances before the police are called. The devices are triggered primarily by sustained periods of loud music, not things like loud talking or laughter (which is encouraged!). The devices do not record audio and are 100% privacy compliant. We also have a security camera that records the front door and driveway. This allows us to facilitate remote check in and monitor the property between guests.brbrACCIDENT FORGIVENESS: Every stay is backed by our accident forgiveness program. Guests will not be held responsible for damage caused during their stay (up to a maximum of $1,500) if 1) the damage is accidental, and 2) the damage is reported as soon as possible, and by no later than the check out time.brbrPOSSIBLE BACKGROUND CHECK: We reserve the right to use a third-party to verify the guest's identity and check criminal databases to finalize the reservation. Complete terms regarding the guest verification are provided in the lodging agreement, and can be provided sooner upon request.brbrNO PETS: No exceptions, sorry. Please don't ask whether we can allow your perfectly house-trained, hypoallergenic labradoodle to join because we can't :-)brbrDOG ALLERGY WARNING: While we do not allow pets, there have been dogs in this house before. Those with severe dog allergies may want to find a different place to stay.brbrSTEEP ROADS: Please be aware that the roads up to the top of the mountain and the driveway to the property can be very steep. In the snow it can be difficult to access the property. At all other times access is not difficult, but driving on steep mountain roads may make some people nervous. If that sounds like you, it might be better to reserve a property that is not along the top of the Blue Ridge. Steep mountain roads are often what it takes to get incredible views like the ones from this cabin, and those who can manage the drive won't be disappointed!brbrREMOTE LOCATION: Please be aware that this cabin is a good 20 min drive from the nearest full-service grocery store. If you're looking for seclusion, this is it! But if you prefer being close to store then this may not be the place for you.brbrSNOW-INS: During the winter, four wheel drive, snow tires/chains, and a car with good clearance are HIGHLY recommended in the event of a snow storm or heavy rain, as there is a good chance that a significant snow storm could restrict access in and out of the house. You need to use good judgement as to whether to cancel a trip before it begins or leave the house early.brbrBUGS: This is a house in the woods--that means there are lots of bugs, especially in the summertime. Even if you are careful some of those bugs will find their way into the house. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to keep doors and windows closed at all times. Please also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food.brbrWAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF HOT TUB : The hot tub remains open year round. If you use the hot tub it is your responsibility to ensure the water remains chemically balanced and safe to use before you use it. By using the hot tub you agree to follow all house rules associated with it and you release the owner of the property from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while using the hot tub, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence.brbrNO SMOKING: Smoking is never allowed inside the house. You may smoke outside as long as you clean up after yourself. You may not litter cigarette butts on the deck, in the yard, or anywhere else--butts must go in the trash after they have cooled off.brbrSHEETS: At the end of your stay you will be asked to strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds.brbrSEPTIC SYSTEM: This house has a septic system. Grease and oil must never be allowed down any of the sink drains. Feminine hygiene products must be thrown away in a trash can and not flushed down a toilet. Never flush solid trash down the toilet or into a sink drain.brbrNO FIREWORKS: Fireworks are not allowed.brbrNO FIREARMS: Guests may not bring firearms or ammunition inside the house. brbrNO ILLEGAL DRUGS: Guests may not possess or consume any illegal drugs on the property, including cannabis.

Complete terms regarding the guest verification are provided in the lodging agreement, and can be provided sooner upon request.brbrNO MUSIC OUTDOORS: This is a quiet, family-friendly lake community, not a place to party. Residents and guests alike come here to relax amid the peace and quiet of the lake. Because of this, and because sound carries so easily across the lake, we do not allow guests to play any music outdoors. Other reasonable noise, from children playing outside, for example, is no problem.brbrNO PETS: No exceptions, sorry. Please don't ask whether we can allow your perfectly house-trained, hypoallergenic labradoodle to join because we can't :-)brbrSNOW-INS: During the winter, there is a good chance that a significant snow storm could restrict access in and out of the house. The roads are plowed, but not always promptly. 4 wheel drive is highly recommended in the event of a snow storm, and you need to use good judgement as to whether to cancel a trip before it begins or leave the house early. brbrSMOKING: Smoking is never allowed inside the house. You may smoke outside as long as you clean up after yourself. You may not litter cigarette butts on the deck, in the yard, or anywhere else--butts must go in the trash after they have cooled off. If smoking inside the screened porch, please turn on the fan so that the smoke does not linger and leave a smell. brbrNUMBER OF GUESTS: It is important to have the correct number of guests on the reservation, so please update accordingly if the number changes after you first book. Only registered guests are allowed to use the home, day or night. brbrSHEETS: At the end of your stay, please strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds. brbrPARKING: There is room for up to 4 cars in the driveway, but if parking more than 2 cars, you might have to box in other cars by parking behind them. brbrBUGS: This is a cabin in the woods--that means there are lots of bugs, especially in the summertime. Even if you are very careful, some of those bugs will find their way into the house. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to enter and exit through the screened porch as often as possible. You must also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food to keep out bugs and mice. We have had to deal with mice before and no one wants that again! brbrTV MOVED TO BASEMENT: The TV has been moved from above the fireplace in the main living area (as shown in some photos) to the basement.brbrVERY MUCKY LAKE BOTTOM: The lake bottom near the shore is very mucky and soft, so it's not a place to swim or wade. If you do attempt to wade in the water you will sink deep into the muck. While we don't recommend swimming, it's a great place to launch kayaks or tubes from and paddle or float around the lake!brbrWAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF HOT TUB AND/OR LAKE: The hot tub remains open year round. If you use the hot tub it is your responsibility to ensure the water remains chemically balanced and safe to use before you use it. Private Vacation Home

Downtown Harpers Ferry - In the heart of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, United States

Mountainside Lodge is located in the heart of historic downtown Harper's Ferry, and in the middle of Harper's Ferry National Historical Park. This one-of-a-kind vacation rental is located in a 2-1/2 story brick federal-period building built in the 1830's. The house shares the building with a family-style restaurant (The Rabbit Hole) and a very popular gift and jewelry shop, The Vintage Lady. The house was originally 2 townhouses, and the center walls were removed in the 1970s to create a large open space on the 1st floor. While the house's exterior painting scheme reflects this original configuration and looks like 2 separate units, the vacation rental spans both spaces (see photo). The building was used during the civil war by both Confederate and Union Armies, primarily as an infirmary/hospital, and is a stop on the Harpers Ferry Ghost Tour.brbrThe first floor of the house features a large open living room/dining room, a full modern kitchen, 1/2 bath, and a large porch with fantastic mountain and river views and views of Harpers Ferry gap. The inside space features hard-wood floors, exposed brick walls, an exposed beam ceiling (many of the beams are original hand-hewn), and large windows looking onto the mountains and the Potomac River. There is a Roku TV with cable, DVD player, VCR, games and toys, and a 10-seat dining table on the 1st floor. A highchair is available upon request. In addition to modern amenities, the house is decorated in fantastic period antiques.brbrThe second floor has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a laundry room w/ full-sized washer and dryer, and offers views of the Potomac River. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and a comfortable full-size futon (comfortable for 1 adult or 2 children). The second bedroom has a Queen bed, and the 3rd bedroom has a twin/full bunk bed (twin on top; full on bottom). The configuration is ideal for two families (4 adults and up to 5 kids), 2-3 couples, or 6-7 friends! All three bedrooms have TVs and DVD players and comfy sheets, mattresses and pillows. brbrThe building sits atop a steep hill, and there are 65 stairs leading down to the 2 parking spaces reserved for the vacation rental in the rear of the building. The front-door to the house is at street-level, so door-to-door drop-off of luggage is possible.

This means we follow best-in-class guidelines to ensure you have a peaceful, safe and memorable stay with us. Please don't ask whether we can allow your perfectly house-trained, hypoallergenic labradoodle to join because we can't :-)brbrGRAVEL ROAD: Please be aware that the cabin is located 1/3 mi up a gravel road after leaving the highway. While it's possible in fair weather to get up the road in a 2WD sedan, AWD and higher clearance make it much easier. Mountain roads are often what it takes to get incredible views like the ones from this cabin, and those who can manage the drive won't be disappointed!brbrSNOW-INS: During the winter, four wheel drive, snow tires/chains, and a car with good clearance are HIGHLY recommended in the event of a snow storm or heavy rain, as there is a good chance that a significant snow storm could restrict access in and out of the cabin. You need to use good judgement as to whether to cancel a trip before it begins or leave the cabin early.brbrBUGS: This is a cabin in the woods--that means there are lots of bugs, especially in the summertime. Even if you are careful some of those bugs will find their way into the cabin. The best way to minimize the number of bugs inside is to keep doors and windows closed at all times. Please also carefully clean up the kitchen every night and securely package up all food.brbrFIREPLACE: You are encouraged to use the fireplace as long as you do so carefully! Always keep the glass door closed unless you are actively putting logs inside the stove. Be sure to keep small children away whenever a fire is burning. We do not guarantee there will be wood or fire starter there, so please plan to bring your own.brbrSMOKING: Smoking is never allowed inside the cabin. You may smoke outside as long as you clean up after yourself. You may not litter cigarette butts on the deck, in the yard, or anywhere else--butts must go in the trash after they have cooled off.brbrSHEETS: At the end of your stay you will be asked to strip the sheets off the beds that were used and leave the sheets on top of the beds.brbrSEPTIC SYSTEM: This cabin has a septic system.
