Fossil Knob Ridge -Buena Suerte: Ultra Modern

Terlingua, Texas, United States

Summary:brFossil Knob Ridge - Buena Suerte House: Relax is Style at this Ultra-Modern Container Home Near Terlingua Ghost TownbrbrThe Space:brHigh Clearance Vehicle Recommended due to rough and rocky roads.brbrBook your vacation at the ultimate modern vacation rentals in the rugged outback of the Big Bend region. In a land of endless mountain and desert vistas that is famed for ghost town ruins, rustic adobes, and Old West ranch homes, the Fossil Knob Ridge vacation rentals offer a unique contrast. The ultra-modern vacation rentals at Fossil Knob Ridge are contemporary homes built from recycled shipping containers. Yes, you read that right. These vacation rental homes are constructed from big metal boxes that were originally used for transporting cargo across the globe on trains and ocean freighters. The owner purchased them from a shipping company and converted them into contemporary and stylish living spaces. Don’t worry though, they are far more than just metal boxes with some furniture. Indeed, these homes offer the most neoteric lodging in the Terlingua area.brbrFossil Knob Ridge offers six separate units. Each rental is similarly styled but each is unique in size, layout, design, furnishings, amenities, views, and occupancy level. The rentals are named after some of the local cinnabar mines that were the basis of settlement of this region in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Cinnabar House has two king beds and sleeps up to 4. The Chisos house sleeps up to three with a king bed and a sofa. The Quicksilver, Mariscal, Buena Suerte, and Sierra Vista rentals sleep two, with a king bed in each.brbrTHIS LISTING IS FOR THE BUENA SUERTE HOUSE AT FOSSIL KNOB RIDGE.br brThe Buena Suerte House is an ultra-modern home built from a recycled 40’ shipping container. Custom designed to create a comfortable living space. Living area, dining area, bedroom and kitchen. Modern design, styling, and art are featured inside and out. Please view the photos for the best description.br brSleeps two guests. The bedroom has a king-sized bed. If you have a larger group, or simply want more space, we recommend booking multiple rentals at Fossil Knob Ridge. It is close by but faces away from the other rentals. All rentals have privacy and their own unique views. br brEach of the Fossil Knob Ridge Rentals are on the electric grid for reliable and ample electric power. All are fully air-conditioned and heated and have modern electric appliances. Potable water is trucked in and stored in holding tanks for your use. There is plenty of water available but trucking it in is expensive. We ask that you conserve it, but not so much as to compromise your comfort.brbrLocated just one-mile northwest of the world famous Terlingua Ghost Town and twenty miles northwest of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. Fossil Knob Ridge overlooks the Ghost Town and has breathtaking mountain views, including the Chisos Mountains and into Mexico.brRelax inside or on the shaded patio. Explore the fossil strewn 20-acre property. Drive or walk (it’s a long but enjoyable walk in good weather) into the Ghost Town to explore the historic ruins, dine, drink, enjoy live music, or hang out with local and travelers from around the globe. If you play an instrument or sing, join in on an impromptu jam, session on the porch of the old trading post. Drive into Big Bend Nation Park or Big Bend Ranch State park for endless outdoor adventures. Book a river trip, jeep tour, horseback ride, mountain bike rental, guided hike, or guided hunt. Enjoy a controlled campfire. Marvel at the night skies. Watch the stunning sunrises and sunsets. Do as much or as little as you like. Then, come back again and do even more or even less.brbrGuest Access:brA key code is provided after the reservation is confirmed and paid. Impressive Dome with Great Panoramic Desert Views in Terlingua, Texas

Terlingua, Texas, United States

Picture yourself gazing at the stars through the panoramic windows of your dome, feeling the awe-inspiring beauty of the cosmos envelop you. Our space-themed resort combines art, technology, comfort, and the bizarre. Our domes are perched on the side of a 100-foot-tall volcanic hill, offering guests breathtaking views of the sweeping landscapes of Big Bend and the surrounding mountains. While hiking around our volcanic hill, you will find an abundance of weird desert plants, aliens, spaceships, meteors, and other Easter eggs.  brbrLocated on Highway 118, we are just a 11 minute drive from Big Bend National Park and the charming Terlingua Ghost Town with it's many shops, restaurants, mines and art. Our galactic resort offers a unique experience atop a 100-foot-high volcanic hill surrounded by majestic meteor rocks. From this vantage point, you can take in panoramic views of the National Park, State Park, Santa Elena Canyon and the Chisos Mountains of Mexico.  It's important to note that the hike up to dome is along a steep dirt trail, which can be strenuous for some. The ascent takes approximately 2 minutes on foot and may take longer if you are carrying luggage. While we are more than happy to assist with carrying your belongings whenever possible, we kindly ask that you be prepared to transport your items if our assistance is unavailable. brbrInside your Space Pod, you'll find everything you need for a relaxing stay, including electrical outlets, air conditioning, a fridge, a fan, and even lasers that project iridescent nebulas gliding across your ceiling for a truly immersive experience. Our water comes from a 750-foot-deep aquifer, ensuring it is both soft and clean. Remember that water in the desert is a precious resource, so we kindly ask that you limit your showers to 5 minutes. brbrUnlike traditional geodesic domes, our domes consist of rigid plastic, allowing us to have crystal-clear windows. With one-third of the dome being a window, you can enjoy the stars directly from your bed or close the massive curtains for some privacy. brbrOur amenities include shared outdoor bathrooms at the bottom of the hill and indoor bathrooms at the top of the hill. We will provide you with a towel, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. You are welcome to use our common grilling areas or enjoy the fire pit located next to your dome. brbrAfter a day spent exploring the park, watch the sunset from our hammock chairs and then relax around your own personal fire pit as the stars begin to light up the night sky.  At the end of the day, slip under a plush comforter and warm blankets and sleep soundly in the Space Pod's memory foam queen size bed.  brbrCheck-in instruction: brbrOur address is 52975 Hwy-118, Terlingua, TX. Please use Google Maps as Apple Maps App doesn't work well in Terlingua.Check-in time is between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.  and unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate early arrivals. Thank you for your understanding. If you want to check in past 10 p.m. you must let us know in advance so that we can give you instructions to access your site. Have your reservation page ready for us to assist you promptly.  brbrPets: brbrWe allow up to 2 pets per dome for a flat fee of $95.  brbrHouse rules:  brbrTo enhance your experience at our desert retreat, you must agree to the following guidelines: brbrTrail Accessibility: Some trails leading to the further domes, tent can extend a few hundred feet from the parking lot. Please be aware that our property may not be suitable for individuals with mobility issues or those unaccustomed to hiking. The terrain includes steep hills, uneven paths, and rocky areas, which may pose challenges for some guests. We want all our guests to have a safe and enjoyable experience, so please consider your physical abilities when booking your stay. If you have any concerns about accessibility, feel free to contact us, and we will do our best to assist you.Supervision and Safety: For the safety of all guests, we require adults to supervise children under 18 at all times. Children are not permitted to venture off-trail, lift or climb rocks, run, or enter restricted or construction areas. Additionally, both children and adults must use flashlights when walking around the property after dark. These guidelines are in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation.Refund Policy: Guests have the flexibility to change their dates up to 1 month in advance at no additional charge. However, changes made within 1 month of the booking date will incur a $50 fee. Please note that by booking with us, you agree to our cancellation policy, which is outlined at the time of checkout. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to hosting you.Damage Policy: Any damage to the domes or facilities caused by guests will incur a fee. This includes but is not limited to, damage to furnishings, fixtures, appliances, and the property itself. Guests are responsible for any costs associated with repairs or replacements due to damage caused during their stay. We kindly ask all guests to treat our property with care and respect. Thank you for your understanding.Wildlife Awareness: The desert is home to various creatures, including spiders, wasps, snakes, scorpions, and other critters. While it may not be possible to keep all of these creatures at bay, properly closing the screen doors when you depart your dome or tent can significantly reduce their presence. Please be cautious of rattlesnakes; look before you step, and avoid moving or removing large rocks. We encourage exploration but prioritize safety above all else.Dark Sky Environment: As part of the Dark Sky Community, our property and its surroundings have minimal lighting. We have very few lights on our property for the same purpose. Always carry a flashlight when walking around after dark, and exercise caution to avoid any potential hazards. If possible, arrive before dark as it can be challenging to bring all your luggage up when it's dark. Respect for Desert Flora: Our property boasts a diverse array of cacti and desert plants. While these plants are beautiful, they can also be formidable, with many featuring sharp points or thorns. Please tread carefully and avoid stepping on any plants. Ocotillo cacti, in particular, can be quite large and sprawling, so be mindful of your surroundings. Please do not collect rocks or plants.Terrain Caution: As you ascend the hill, be mindful of the terrain. Off-trail areas consist of crumbly and sharp volcanic rock, making it unsafe to venture off the designated paths. Always stay on the trail, especially when going uphill or downhill. We recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes for your safety.Emergency Preparedness: The nearest hospital is located in Alpine, which is over an hour away. Please keep this in mind and take necessary precautions during your stay.Power and Water Usage: While we strive to provide a comfortable experience, power outages can occur. We have portable generators and power banks for such occasions. Please use the air conditioning units responsibly, turning them off when not needed. Our water supply is limited, so we kindly request that showers be kept to 3-5 minutes maximum.Respectful Behavior: While we do not have set quiet hours, we expect all guests to be considerate and respectful towards one another. Failure to adhere to this simple rule may result in being asked to leave.Communication and Expectations: Your comfort and enjoyment are our top priorities. We aim to respond promptly to your needs and requests. However, please understand that we may be attending to other guests or temporarily out of cell service range. For non-emergencies, please message us through the app or text us.Leave No Trace: Please adhere to the national Leave No Trace rules. Guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be asked to leave the property and may not be eligible for a refund. We strive to maintain a peaceful and enjoyable environment for all our guests, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated. brbrWe are excited to share the stunning dark sky of the far West Texas desert with you and look forward to your visit. brbrLiability Waiver: brbrBy proceeding, you hereby waive, release and forever discharge, d/b/a.
