It's just eight acres of land. Not much by Texas land standards, but those eight acres are breathtaking. Originally procured as a lease in 1899 by Architect William Norris Hagy of San Antonio, Texas. A few years later, the Hagy family purchased the land under a Spanish Land Grant, which is known today by locals as Hagy Camp. Located on the west prong of the Frio River, approximately twelve miles from Leakey, Texas, you'll find a little slice of heaven. Step into nature and enjoy our Frio River experience. This property is perfect for families or for friends who enjoy outdoor activities. Fishing, swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking are just a few outdoor activities on our river. Maybe you love the quiet of nature. Birdwatching or experiencing the famous Monarch butterfly migration into Mexico is more your cup of tea. Whether you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway or a river weekend with family, our property is a perfect option. With Hagy Camp, you'll have private river access. Walk out of our cabin. Walk down a set of stairs. You're on the river. No stress here, looking for a spot on the river. Our modern cabin, built in 2017, sits above the river, giving a panoramic view of the river not commonly seen in Real County VRBO'S. The loft-style cabin comfortably sleeps 6-8 guests. Downstairs, you'll enjoy not one but two Master bedrooms with queen beds in each and a private Jack and Jill bathroom with a shower and tub. The second downstairs bathroom has a shower, along with a washer and dryer available for your use. The large loft upstairs has five additional queen beds with a guest bathroom. This bathroom has a shower. The kitchen is stocked with appliances, plates, cups, utensils, pots and pans, etc. We have coffee machines and presses with complimentary standard old school black coffee. Bring your morning cup of coffee into the Pavilion and enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature. If you get lucky, you just might get to see some critters making their morning commute along the river. Aoudad sheep, Axis and whitetail deer, our mated pair of Egret birds, or our shy mama fox that comes around every once in a while are just a few of what might show themselves. If you enjoy bird watching, then you will love our property. We have everything from hummingbirds, egrets, cardinals, to summer tanagers and birds seasonally from Mexico. Right off the Pavilion is a charcoal BBQ grill and fire pit that you can use to make great BBQ or s'mores after a day on the river. Please note that while we have harmless wildlife, we also have wildlife that you should be wary of. In the last few years, Black Bears in Mexico have been recolonizing their native Texas hill country habitat of the 1800's. As a protected species, our Real County Game Wardens are tagging and cataloging these bears as well as monitoring their numbers. Mountain lions and wild hogs share the land with us as well. Respect all wildlife and keep a healthy distance from them. Do not attempt to feed or interact with them. Let's keep our wildlife wild. brbrPlease Note: By law, anyone 17 or older is required to have a Texas fishing license. Guns are not permitted on the property. There is no hunting allowed, no tannerite, and no target practice. By Texas law (Health and Safety Code § 365.035), glass containers of any kind are not permitted in or on the river. Styrofoam is prohibited on the Frio River by the State of Texas, which includes, but is not limited to, coolers, cups, and food containers. As per Chapter 90 of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Code, no motorized vehicles are allowed in the river. General information: No trespassing on any other properties behind our community's locked gate. No pets are allowed. No smoking inside the cabin. Outside smoking is fine, but please dispose of butts in the provided receptacles. Do not leave food trash outside of the cabin or pavilion unattended. Especially at night. Household garbage must be locked up in the Rubbermaid receptacle by the back door. Not doing so could cause an unwanted mess or an encounter with the above animals, who are always hungry and know our food is delicious and easily accessible. brbr**We do not provide bed linens or bath towels; we will provide River towels. ****YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO OTHER FAMILIES' PRIVATE CABINS AND PROPERTY****brbr***TO SUBMIT A BOOKING REQUEST: Please make sure you have read the House Rules first to see if this property is a good fit for your family, including: You must be 25 years old to rent our home. The renter of the home is responsible and must be on site during the rental period. A maximum of 8 guests will be allowed at Hagy Heritage. Out of respect for our neighbors, we can not allow large parties at our home.
