The Hynes Cabin- 1925 Renovated Classic with Stunning Views

Hill City, South Dakota, United States

The Hynes Family Cabin is a once-in-a lifetime experience. Built by our grandparents nearly a century ago, the cabin will transport you and your family back to the beautiful, authentic charms of the Old West, while you enjoy plenty of modern amenities. brbrThe cabin sleeps seven, with three twin beds and two queen beds. Its 40’ wide sleeping porch is unique, and has a truly breathtaking view. Our grandparents chose this location for the most beautiful vista they’d ever seen. At sunset, you’ll see Mt. Elkhorn and Black Elk Peak (formerly Harney Peak) glow pink and gold. An occasional rainbow will dazzle you. Each morning you can watch a herd of horses running from their nearby pasture to the stable. brbrChildren love the Hynes Cabin. Great climbing rocks are all around. Our original ball and claw bathtub is on the porch, filled with pillows and inviting kids to read and snooze. “A Boy’s Life in the Hills,” written by our dad, shares tales of his many adventures. Our guests love to sit on the porch or in our cozy living room and read tales about the West. It’s a place that encourages rest and renewal, with lots of fun things to do close by and a quiet place to come home to at day’s end.brbrThere’s a chest full of fun family games and a DVD player. KOA amenities – trail rides, a water slide, miniature golf, two swimming pools, movie nights and pancake breakfasts – are available. Only the trail rides and pancake breakfasts have a fee. Many nearby trails invite hikers of all skill levels. Iconic Mt. Rushmore and charming Hill City, “the art capital of the Hills,” are both just six miles away. Pristine Sheridan Lake, where the family can swim, fish and hike, is only a 15-minute drive away. brbrThe Hynes cabin is a perfect place for a romantic getaway, too. Its beauty, quiet and privacy will help you relax and refresh. There are two queen beds, one on the porch and one in the living room.brbrThere are so many personal touches that you’ll feel right at home. Our handsome queen headboards were made by a local carpenter, and the four pine chests were built for the cabin in 1925. Frances made all the curtains by hand, just as our grandmother did nearly a century ago. On the porch there’s a display of some of the daily objects she used: her apron, her Vaseline glassware, her Mixmaster and other objects. The coffee table was made from the cabin’s original closet. Newly installed solid wood doors compliment the cabin’s authentic feel. A book of photos tells the history of the Hynes Cabin.brbrThe 40’ wide sleeping porch is just as it was 100 years ago, with our family’s saddles hanging on the rafters. Antique light fixtures from the 1930s adorn the two bathrooms. The newly refurbished kitchen is fully equipped. And for nearly 100 years, guests have been sharing their memories and whimsy on paper plates that are all part of this truly unique experience. We look forward to hosting you in our Hynes Family Cabin. br~ Frances and Arthur Hynesbr

Black Hills Home Cabins—ELOOSIVE MOOSE—in Hill City, near Lake, Mickelson Trail!

Hill City, South Dakota, United States

Black Hills Home Cabins at Chokecherry BnB, located IN Hill City (a neighborly very likable mountain town), features 2 in-home cabin style nightly vacation rentals, under the one roof of our recently built modern mountain cottage. This listing offers ELOOSIVE MOOSE, spacious, thought-out carefully for your comfort and convenience, and the rates are easy going while the benefits are exceptional! Owners Sam and Linda live in this hospitality residence, separately from your ‘moose farm’ (…said tongue-in-cheek, because the decor, besides faux moose sightings, includes an eclectic variety of farm artifacts, gleaned from the childhoods of your host and hostess.) The overall BnB cottage consists of three individual distinct units: owner quarters; Eloosive Moose (in-home cabin); and Chokecherry Hideout (in-home cabin Vrbo ID 3539428). Yes, you do have your own personal porch entrance, with the inviting appearance of a happy cabin!brbrNOTE 1—Our Vrbo calendar is set for showing availability from present to six months out, and adjusts automatically to always show six months availability.brbrNOTE 2—Please take time to read the House Rules/Policies (at bottom) provided with this listing, as well as to look at the amenities available or not available. It is IMPORTANT to do so before sending a Request To Book. For instance, we are firm on renting to NON-SMOKERS only [people who do NOT smoke anything]. Under no circumstances can we accommodate people who smoke, even if they smoke off-property. (If this policy is relevant to you, please read About Our Non-Smokers Only Policy at bottom of this description page.) Again, please read the rules and policies, and check the amenities shown elsewhere in this listing. Thank you.brbrCHECKIN window between 4:00-6:00 p.m.—The checkin window is to let you know that we are not ready to receive guests before 4:00, so that isn’t an option; however, after 6:00 we usually have more flexibility. (The morning of your arrival date we will email to ask if you must be later than 6:00, and approximately what time to anticipate your arrival.) brCHECKOUT by 11:00 a.m.—Necessary particularly when we have guests arriving later the same day as your checkout.brbrA suggestion—if you are three or four adults traveling together, you may check to see if Chokecherry Hideout is also available and, if so, you could rent both in-home cabins! We have accommodated guests who did just that. The benefits include two full bathrooms, privacy between the in-home cabins, two places to spend time together, a picnic table, two grills (one electric and one charcoal), and probably you could think of other benefits as well. Please inquire if you have questions.brbr2006-2021 (Vrbo since 2013) — With 15 years experience as host and hostess of our first owner-occupied BnB, we have acquired a strong sense of what works for and appeals to travelers. Our stack of guest books, filled with happy satisfied expressions from former thousands of guests, attests to our earnest desire to extend hospitality that shows you are on our minds. As we look forward cheerfully to meeting all our future vacationers who will be visiting the beautiful Black Hills and choose to book here, we are reminded of our gratitude for those past wonderful years which we were blessed to enjoy, and for all the new friends we made because they chose to stay with us, some of whom followed us forward!brbrLet’s explore a variety of benefits you may expect from Black Hills Home Cabins. ~ First of all, and importantly, we are near Mt. Rushmore, in the Central Black Hills, which is ideal for adventurous day-trips into unparalleled diverse scenic vistas everywhere in the length and breadth of the Black Hills. ~ No less advantageous, the in-town location of Black Hills Home Cabins provides easy access, even on foot, to everything Hill City has to offer. ~ Black Hills Home Cabins is in near proximity to the George S. Mickelson Trail, for exercise, or bird and wildlife viewing out in nature. The ever-popular trail strides through town along Railroad Avenue. We are situated across the football field from Major Lake, where there is access to the trail from the lake (and a fishing/resting pier!) ~ Don't miss the iconic tourist attraction, Black Hills Central Railroad's 1880 Train, stationed along the trail. ~ Bike rentals are locally available as well. ~
For your grocery needs, Hill City's full service Krull's Market is only a few blocks away. ~ There are two laundromats in town. ~ And several churches grace this small community. ~ Probably you will devote some leisurely time to historic downtown Hill City. That's where you will find everything from a hair salon to filet mignon to dreamy ice cream and homemade fudge to a world class dinosaur museum, and Dahl’s Chainsaw Art. Many local artists make their offerings available for purchase at Art Forms downtown! Savor the choices of cafes, eateries and restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Track down fine gifts, as well as trinkets, t-shirts and antiques. ~ Also available for purchase are antiques displayed in a special log cabinet in your cabin, direct from our former retail shop, Smiling Bear Antiques. brbrPlease review all the PHOTOS provided with this listing, and we recommend that you indulge in reading the informative captions. You will see your private full bath, with a 5’ curved tub with a shower having 6 handy shelves; and an assortment of amenities throughout—linens and towels are provided, as well as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, dish soap. The bed is a queen-size pillowtop. For holding baggage and unpacked items, there is a closet with hanging shelves, log-topped bench, metal shelf unit, rod and hangers; as well as a short round table and a hoosier cabinet. There is a desk and chair; and a dining table with chairs. A comfortable wingback chair and small antique rocking chair are great for TV viewing. brbrYou may spread your wings to the outdoors and let the porch swing know its intended use. Perhaps you would like to practice your grilling skills using the beautiful dome-lidded electric grill, situated beside an enamel-topped dropleaf table on the porch. You may be entertained by deer grazing, or bunnies or sometimes wild turkeys! Indeed, you may take pleasure in the peaceful quiet surrounding our two in-home cabins, and amusement from the infrequent novelty of an event taking place on the football field, afternoon or early evening, on rare occasions, which we ourselves find entertaining. brbrThe kitchenette has a sink, dishes, utensils, coffee and tea, salt and pepper, an undercounter refrigerator, microwave, toaster, 4-cup coffee maker, and more. NOTE—With the standard modest rate that we offer on Vrbo, a mini breakfast (in a basket) will be provided in the accommodations, consisting typically of simple breakfast takeaways, in case guests need a burst of energy prior to searching out one of the eateries in Hill City or the surrounding area. The mini breakfast might include fruit; breakfast bar or bagel or muffin or other pastry or oatmeal packets; milk (for oatmeal or coffee or simply to drink); cheese or boiled egg or yogurt (quantity and variety subject to length of stay). brbrThough the accommodation is serviced regularly, your host and hostess are generally available by text if anything is needed, since we have our own quarters in the residence. brbrSmart TV with Roku is provided, also cable programming for local channels. WiFi internet service through our cable provider is included.brbrWe very much enjoy the role of host and hostess at our Black Hills Home Cabins. Without question, we are deeply grateful for the glorious years we have been enriched by, getting to know so many of the wonderful travelers who venture to the alluring Black Hills that are our home. Excitedly we are anticipating meeting many more, maybe you, as we offer two engaging in-home cabins—Chokecherry Hideout and Eloosive Moose—here in Hill City, under our roof. br_________________________brIt is our Policy that strong lingering scents and products are not used in the guest cabins, for the sake of guests who will be staying after you. Thank you for understanding and complying if you stay.brbrONLY microwave cooking is allowed indoors. The grill is for you to enjoy outdoor cooking.brbrNO pets or animals of any kind can be accommodated.brbrABOUT OUR NON-SMOKERS ONLY POLICY, referring back to NOTE 2 above, it does mean that we can accommodate NON-smokers only (people who do not smoke anything). Even if potential guests who smoke would not smoke on our property but would smoke off our property, the smoke residue would be carried back inside the guest cabin where it permeates curtains, bedding, carpet, etc, and is virtually impossible to clean adequately prior to arrival of the next guests, who may be sensitive or allergic to smoke residue; also, our own health does not tolerate it. If you are smokers who may feel it would be acceptable to smoke off-property and simply not smoke in the accommodations, we must ask that you do not request a stay at Black Hills Home Cabins. Thank you for understanding, and be assured it need not be taken as a personal affront, but it is of utmost importance to us. There are many accommodations available that welcome smokers.br_________________________brModerate Cancellation, as found with this Vrbo listing: Travelers who cancel at least 30 days before check-in will get back 100% of the amount they've paid. If they cancel between 14 and 30 days before check-in, they'll get back 50%. Otherwise, they won't get a refund.

Beautiful Victorian Home/cabin

Hill City, South Dakota, United States

This charming Two-level Victorian is spacious and has been built in 2018. Although Victorian homes have been part of Black Hills history since miners started building mining towns—there are only two in Hill City. Only one is available for rent. Set in downtown, walking distance from everything, this two-story, 1400-square-foot, narrow-gauge memory-maker puts you right where the action is. Newly constructed in 2018, it’s immaculate and modern inside. Sleeps 4 adults with two king-size bedrooms, two full baths, full kitchen, and two turrets—one for the living room and the other for dining—allow this charmer to sleep four. Enjoy the outside covered patio/dining area, along with handy, off-street parking for four cars. Owners live nearby, and someone can usually be there within 30 minutes—often less. The house is stocked with linens, pots and pans, dishes, and small appliances. Grocery store and Dollar General are located within two-minutes’ drive. Check-in is at 3:00. check- in can be flexible at times. We want you to love your visit as much as we love our town. We’re pretty sure you’ll be back. THE HILL CITY EXPERIENCE Let’s get you acclimated with what “downtown” means. Two doors down is a bicycle rental/fix-it shop, which helps you get to 109 miles of the Mickelson Trail, right across the street. In less than a minute’s walk, you can ride the state’s only steam-powered passenger train, visit the South Dakota State Railroad Museum, the world’s largest private fossil research facility and museum, four art galleries and specialty shops, two adventure shops, chocolate and ice cream parlors, one wine-tasting room, and several stores with a wide variety of goods. You also have your choice of tourist-oriented fare, including Black Hills Gold. Within three minutes’ walk, you have your choice of seven restaurants. Just outside the pedestrian district, and within a few miles in each direction, there are even more specialty shops, wineries and tasting rooms, saloons, and more. Hill City…it’s a thing. FURTHER Visitors can park in the driveway and stay put for their whole trip—or hit the road to one of the area’s natural attractions. Roger Brooks, nationally-known branding expert, has called the Black Hills area the nation’s most “attractive” place—when it comes to the number of things to do. Don’t forget Custer State Park to Devil’s Tower, Black Elk Peak, the Needle’s Highway, or our area caves, including Jewel Cave, with the third-longest passages in the world. Explore agate-hunting beds, go fishing, hunting, hiking, horse-back riding, biking, snowmobiling, ATVing, and whatever else you can think of. Keep in mind that the Secretary of Tourism has called Hill City the state’s arts mecca, which has contributed to its reputation. This gives Hill City its own “experience,” and allows it to stand out from other small towns and villages in the region. With its position in the middle of the Black Hills, it provides easy access to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorials (each 15 minutes away), and Deadwood to the north and Hot Springs to the south (each 45 to 60 minutes away, depending on traffic). You’ll also meet thousands of motorcycle riders in early August, attendees of the world’s largest bike rally—but that can get a little loud. Other sounds include the steam train whistle from across the street, and an artistic chainsaw artist who works in the afternoons across the alley. There are also musicians who play on the street, along with summer festivals and events. Please check the doorbells placed outside the main doors. Give it a ring and welcome your visitors. Check the Chamber of Commerce website for details.

Whistle Stop Cabin with Meadow View

Hill City, South Dakota, United States

Enjoy a quiet location close to town and on paved road. This property sits directly in between the towns of Hill City and Keystone! Have a cup of coffee on the front porch and watch the famous 1880's train roll past you a on its way to Keystone. Come evening have a seat and enjoy the wildlife in the meadow directly below you. Easily run into Hill City or Keystone for dinner or groceries or stay home and grill. A short car ride gets you to all of the major attractions including Mt Rushmore (20 minutes) & Crazy Horse (16 minutes) or go the other direction to Deerfield Lake for fishing and boating. The driveway is a little steep and I have had a few guests have concerns about riding motorcycles up and down. Once up the hill there is ample room to turn around a vehicle but I would recommend not taking your trailer to the top. If you do you will most likely be backing it down. There is however a nice flat spot at the bottom of the hill to park a trailer off the road in a safe location. brbrThis Cabin is located in the middle of all the major attractions most of them being less than 30 minutes away. brbrIf outdoor activity is more your style. There are 3 different lakes within 25 minutes or less, not to mention the the Mickelson Trail just a few minutes away with a trailhead in Hill City. Giving you access to 107 miles of biking and walking. brbrHundreds of miles of ATV trails are surrounding this area. Less than a four mile drive gets you to ATV rentals and access to Horse back riding.brbrWe can't wait to share our place with you and hope you fall in love with it like we have.
