Originally constructed in 1840 by early settlers seeking to establish themselves near Martinsville Village and Beaver Creek, this two-story dwelling was crafted from creek bed stone and surrounded by farmland. The rich soil, plentiful timber, water sources, and wildlife helped the settlers thrive.brbrNotably, it is one of the few surviving structures from the area`s earliest days, with the original well still standing beside it, thoughtfully safeguarded to prevent accidents. brbrDuring the 1890s, the Pennsylvania Railroad Company laid tracks through the villages and farms. The route remained active for nearly a century until its removal in the 1980s. The land was gradually returned to the farming families, and the Stone House`s property was the last to be repurchased. The bridge supports in the creek behind the home and the graded earth where the tracks once lay are a reminder of the railroad`s presence.brbrIn the 1950s, an extension containing a kitchen and dining room was added to the Stone House, and in 2020, it underwent a complete renovation.
