It was an amazing night when we walked down with flashlights and watched all the shooting stars crossing the night sky. With little surrounding light the night sky can be fascinating and the kids absolutely loved seeing it.brbrThe Fells historic home and gardens are very close by and in the summer they are a must see. The home brings you back to earlier times and the gardens are beautiful and have trails for you to hike down to the shores of Lake Sunapee.brbrIf you are a more avid hiker there are trails all around this home that range from easy walks to more challenging climbs. The moderate hike up to sunset hill is enjoyable and can be attempted by anyone. One of the more challenging hikes is the Summit Trail that takes you from the parking lot of the ski mountain to its peak and if you want to extend that hike it connects to a trail that continues on to Kearsarge Mountain. Sorry- no boats or motorized water sports from our dock.

On the main floor you will find a great room with a double-sided stone fireplace flanked by several couches, several comfortable chairs, a 100+ yr old card table for card games/checkers/chess, large kitchen and dining area complete with rustic pizza oven and dumb waiter, children's play area, library, powder room and two master suites. Climb the spiral stairs inside the silo to the observatory and do some spectacular star gazing or catch the weekly summer fireworks display over Lake Sunapee. On the lower level, enjoy the Rec room with large screen HDTV, foosball table, full wet bar and the remaining 5 bedrooms, including 2 bunk rooms with 10 beds. The property is over 3 acres of meadow, lawn, courtyard and woods. Note: Guests are required to bring sheets and towels unless they request linen service, which has an extra fee.brbrThe kids love to pick flowers in the meadow, climb huge boulders, make forts along the stone walls, build fairy houses in the woods, search for wildlife - and we have plenty! He began as a private secretary and assistant to Abraham Lincoln, later became Ambassador to Great Britain, and his highest office was United States Secretary of State under Presidents William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. His son Clarence inherited the property in 1905 when John passed away. Clarence and Alice Hay used the farm with their children for the next 40 or so years, commissioning famed NY architect Prentice Sanger to design the fieldstone Barn and Milkhouse, which were built from 1912-1916. Although their farmhouse on the property is gone, some of its stone foundation still exists and frames a sunken, stone-walled courtyard that is perfect for picnics, small events, and lawn games. Cows, goats, oxen, and mules were housed here in the Barn, while orchards supplied fruit, and maple trees provided an annual harvest of syrup. The Barn and Milkhouse were converted to residences from 2005-2008, and from the stones to the soaring scissor trusses, the overwhelming majority of the 100+ year-old structures were retained.

Newly built cabin in December of 2023, is close to everything with feeling very far away. The cottage is a short scenic 7 minute drive to Sunapee Mountain and State Park. In the summer months, the park has public swimming with restrooms, and boat rentals .Two minutes away from the cabin there is a public boat ramp for access to Lake Sunapee and a public dock (Blodgett's Landing) for swimming and watching some of the best sunsets anywhere. The cabin is also part of the Chalk Pond Association. A mile down the road you will find tennis courts and a sweet playground for the kids available for your use. There is swimming at the pond as well at the newly renovated beach. A canoe owned by the cabin is at the pond to use at your leisure. There are many excellent hikes close by. One trailhead located right across from the property. Perfect for a winter or summer hike with great views of the lake and mountain.brOur cabin was designed with comfort and leisure in mind. Lots of windows, that give a feeling of the outside coming in. Open concept first floor with tiled radiant heating will keep you cozy after a long day on the slopes, hiking, ice fishing or whatever your choice of play! In the summer the floor will keep cool. Perfect after a day of summertime adventure! Large ceiling fans are throughout the cottage and each bedroom has a floor AC unit. Kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to make your stay feel like home. There is a pantry for storing food items you have brought. Turn on the cast iron gas stove, kick back and relax with one of the many board games or watch a movie on the smart TV with surround sound in the spacious living room. Connect to the Bluetooth speaker and listen to your vacation play list. Washer and dryer located on the first floor for your convenience. Down stairs bedroom with beautiful large windows has queen size bed and smart tv perfect to end your day. A short drive around the lake you will find the picturesque town of Sunapee. Where you can grab some lunch by the water or take a cruise on the Sunapee steamboat, offering dinner cruises and day time tours. Not only is the Sunapee area perfect for skiing/riding and playing in the crystal clear water, Sunapee has terrific hiking, mountain biking and fishing in all season.
