Our condo is located on a corner as close to the ocean as you can get and there are ocean views from almost every window. If you have a good arm, you could throw a ball from our lanai into the ocean. The building underwent an extensive makeover during the summer of 2015, it was closed for six months. Each unit received new windows, doors and railings, and the building itself had a complete concrete restoration and paint with new hallway carpeting. There is free parking on site. The resort is a twenty-five minute drive from the Kahului Airport (OGG). Rental cars are available at the airport or in Kihei town. There are also taxis available at the airport (about $50), a shuttle bus and public transportation. brbrVirtually all of the other properties and resorts in Kihei are either located right on busy S. Kihei Rd., or if they are set back from the road - are across from the street from the ocean. One unique feature of the Kihei Surfside is that it is located at the quiet end of S. The laundry room was literally 7 steps away from the front door... across the walkway... no, you can't hear anything. The pool looked nice & clean and the bbq area was clean. Good central location.brbrWe stayed # 310 at the Kauhale Makai in September. What a fabulous room! Everything was perfect! The condo is sparkling from top to bottom. It has 2 flat screen tv's , beautiful kitchen, great balcony. The bathroom has a huge double sink and the bed was a four poster bed with a pillow top mattress. The only drawback was that the room did not have a washer/dryer but each floor has a nice laundry room and the room for our floor is located directly outside #310.brbr'Excellent! The balcony was one of our favorite hangouts as we started our days with Kona coffee and breakfast and enjoyed the breathtaking views (which included humpback whales at times) and at night we would enjoy cocktails and the sparkling lights across the water. The County Council is voting to ban 7,000 units (out of the 14,000 total) from renting to tourists starting in July of 2025. Those units were originally zoned Apartment and had been grandfathered into tourist rentals. That grandfathering is being removed. The complete list of units which will be barred from renting to tourists is readily available if you do an internet search on Minatoya List.brbrOur unit has never been on that list and has always been zoned Hotel/Business. If you reserve from us, rest assured you are in a legal, licensed unit in the appropriate zoning class. brbrbrUnit 606 is a very unique property. It was originally built as the developer of the building's private suite. Based on the size, spaciousness and views of the unit, he used it as a location to host cocktail parties and neighborhood gatherings. Over its life, the unit has had very few owners and mostly was used as a gathering space. brbrWe recently purchased it and proceeded with a large scale remodel. The results are spectacular. The glass has been replaced with thick double pane glass to provide quiet and to moderate the Maui sun. Most units haven't invested in the expense of new glass. At $22,000, I understand why, but the increase in comfort is extreme. I wouldn't rent a unit that did not have updated glass. The lanais are over 16 feet wide and provide a great space to hang out, watch the waves and surfers, and enjoy the tropical weather. brbrWe have furnished our condo to be modern and comfortable. You will find full sized couch and chairs, a king sized bed, tons of storage, large closets. The kitchen is outfitted with a new whirlpool appliance suite including microwave, dishwasher, self cleaning glass topped range and refrigerator with ice maker. We even have special outlets that have USB chargers built into them. We provide top quality pans, knives and small appliances.brbrFree WiFi, phone calls to the US and Canada. A large flat screen TV in the living room and another flat screen in the bedroom. The living room has a blu ray player. There is a radio with a provided cord to plug in your ipad, ipod, iphone or MP3 player as well as a speaker that can connect to your phone or iPod via Bluetooth.brbrIsland surf is in a great central location. Immediately to the north is a area the locals call 'the Triangle'. It has lots of shops and scores of restaurants and night spots. Across the street is Kalama park, offering playgrounds, roller hockey, volleyball, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and wide open spaces to play catch or just hang on the grass. You can watch your friends and family play in the surf right from the front room. brbrA short drive to the south puts you in the heart of Wailea with upscale dining, shopping and more wonderful beaches.brbrIsland surf houses many great businesses. You can rent bicycles, get a manicure or spa treatment, book a scuba dive, rent surf boards, or eat a great plate lunch all without never leaving the building. brbrThere is a pool and BBQ area on the second floor, both with ocean views. brbr-our on-island contact is within walking distance to the condo and will promptly attend to any issues you may encounter.brbrIf you need other dates, you can check out our other rental in the same building. It is a two bedroom, two bath #454560. brbrSince we have two units in the building, and work with the owner of the unit adjacent to ours on the 6th floor, we can offer wedding party accommodations with berths for up to 12 people. brbrThe unit has a king bed and we have a port a crib for an infant. Owners and guests are not allowed to smoke in units, on walkways, on Lanais or in common areas. There is one very small designated smoking area in a corner of the back parking lot. Quite honestly, if there is a smoker or vaper in your party, this is not a good fit for your vacation. My advice would be to seek other accommodations. Anyone found smoking in a restricted area is subject to a significant fine. brbrSmall pets are allowed with prior written approval. brbrThis condo is licensed for vacation rentals, Hawaiian tax id. #TA-042-517-0944-01. Beware of condo owners not providing their tax number, often they are scams or not licensed. If you are looking at a rental that does not provide their number, they are probably operating illegally. Please be careful, the state is enforcing these and you may find yourself without a place to stay when you arrive. Try googling 'nonpermitted vacation rentals target of enforcement' to see a recent article on the issue. Kauai recently closed 320 non-permitted vacation rentals with two weeks notice and all the guests were left without accommodations.

Instead, the atmosphere is light, clean, and airy. brbrThe bathroom offers a walk-in, adjustable-level shower, tastefully decorated with white tile plumeria blossoms and sea turtles who swim along the stone floor. The king-size bed is firm and comfortable. In the living room, the SmartTV offers a full cable menu as well as access to Netflix, Prime, and other streaming video services. The lanai is shaded from the afternoon sun and offers a quiet, cool space to enjoy the day after mornings at the beach. Air conditioning is available, though we prefer to use the large ceiling fans, one in each room, which work well to circulate the amazing Hawaiian air. As Maui residents, my wife and I can truly say there is no better place to live or vacation than Maui Banyan. We bought our condo with a long term goal in mind... retirement later but fun now. We shopped countless others all over Maui until finding the Banyan. Once we did we waited until the perfect condo was available.brbrA few points of interest in the event you decide to live in our home for a few days while we are away. We are literally less than 90 feet from Kamaole Beach 2, (which is one of the few beaches in Maui with a lifeguard), a four minute walk to the tennis court, a three minute walk to one of the private pools, (the other is about a six min walk) and a five minute walk to the gardens. When you leave the complex great dining and local shopping is just about a five to ten min walk down S. Kihei road (which is along the ocean).
