Campbell Cottage - Condo in the Heart of Downtown Key West!

Key West, Florida, United States

All the elements are here to make the perfect vacation cottage: one highly comfortable king bed, one full bath, an open floorplan with living-dining-kitchen areas, a front porch looking over the large Monaco-style pool, and a location very near world-famous Duval Street and the lively Historic Seaport featuring the scenic Harborwalk.brbrThe first steps into the cottage are up onto the porch that features two chairs and a small table. Above a ceiling fan provides light for night, air circulation, and sets a delightful tropical theme. A swath of cloud white organza billows at the front door as if to usher guests into a magical setting. The multiple windows throughout are likewise draped in the fabric that creates privacy and artistic interest. The décor colors are borrowed from the ocean: blue water, ivory shells, red corals, the sunlight, the sky. brbrA social area offers a couch with decorative pillows, a ratan chair, and a round coffee table. On the opposite wall hangs a flat screen positioned for easy viewing from the couch. It’s the perfect place for discussing the day’s plans or playing a round of Key West Monopoly. Maybe drink your coffee or cocktails here but out by the pool or on the front porch is also ideal. Of course, there’s cable and wireless high-speed internet. If you find you need an extra bed, the couch is also a full sleep sofa.brbrThe next area is defined by an artisan sideboard with storage space and four sturdy stool-chairs. This area can function as a dining table for meals or a space for doing computer work or a game area or craft project area or whatever you might need a table for. The space is well located beside the kitchen area. brbrThe kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to make a meal or warm up leftovers from dinner out the night before. And plenty of cabinet space above and below creates space to store stuff. There’s a coffee machine, toaster, dishes, glassware, silverware, a stove with a glass cooktop for easy cleanup, and a double sink. A back door just off the kitchen leads to a small patio and a washer/dryer for laundry. Parking, should you need it, is on street.brbrThe other side of the room includes an unexpected design element: a section of hollow glass brick forming part of the wall and reflecting soft ambient light. On the other side of this wall is the bedroom and full bath. The bed is a generous king and the perfect spot for a relaxing daytime nap and a comfortable sleep through the night. Nightstands with lamps are on either side and serve as a good place for the novel you’re reading and for your cell phone. A flat screen TV is on the opposite wall, a positioning that allows comfortable viewing from the bed. The closet provides space for hanging clothes and some shelf space for foldables. A cabinet under the tv provides even more shelf space. All the storage makes it easy to put things away and out of sight. A bladed ceiling fan whirring above adds a tropical ambience and circulates air throughout the room. Adjacent is the generous-sized full bath with a wall of mirror glass, spacious sink, shelves for towels, and a tub with a soothing shower.brbrThe inside of the cottage takes care of your vacation living needs very efficiently and very comfortably. Back outside, you can step off the porch onto the deck of the large, heated, residents-only pool and make yourself comfortable on one of the chairs or stretch out on a chaise lounge. The pool is large enough for swimming. Or for less movement, maybe you want to float looking up at puffy white cumulus against a blue-blue sky. In either case, don’t forget the suntan lotion. When you want shade, move to the table and chairs on the upper deck or back to the table and chairs on your own covered front porch.brbrBesides a delightful cottage and a spectacular pool, its perfect location is another element contributing to the appeal of the cottage. Despite its tranquility, the location is only two blocks off world-famous Duval Street and three blocks from the Historic Seaport, both must-experience destinations in the Southernmost City.brbrWhen you are ready to check it all out, head up Fleming three blocks to Margaret and turn left. At the corner of Margaret and Caroline you are about a hundred feet from the Historic Seaport and Harbor Walk. Follow the wooden boardwalk along the Gulf to find historic tall ships offering day and sunset cruises or take an all-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas. If you’re interested in watersports, there’s all kinds—diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing to name a few. If you get hungry, a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality ring the harbor. brbrOr walk two blocks in the other direction to Duval Street to find tours, museums, shopping, more restaurants, more bars, and the Key West Aquarium. Your cellphone can identify sunset time, so you don’t miss the daily celebration at Mallory Square where locals and visitors alike gather to applaud as the sun sinks its fiery orange circle into the horizon. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch the elusive neon green flash at the last second. But it’s not yet time to put your day to rest; instead hang around for the party as artists and street performers entertain the crowd with magic, juggling fire, telling fortunes, and selling handmade items. brbrIf this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don’t miss anything. Or check out info on the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events at milezerokeywest.com. The lavish L-shaped lagoon pool runs across the back of the property and up one side ending at the hidden conversation area off the front bedroom suite. You’ll want to photograph the fabulous Poinciana, then linger near the pool, swim laps, or just paddle around to refresh. A fourth option is ascending the spiral staircase to the sun deck overlooking the pool where you’ll find chaise lounges and plenty of tanning space. brbrEventually it’ll be time to venture out into the neighborhood on Whitehead and Duval streets. Maybe book some water sports like diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, jet-skiing, etc. Or maybe your taste runs more towards the arts. If so, Key West is the right place for music, movies, plays, art galleries, lectures, and more. Or stop in at Books & Books to catch a glimpse of the author Judy Blume stocking the shelves. brbrDon’t miss the daily sunset celebration at Mallory Square, where locals and visitors alike gather daily to applaud as the sun sinks into the horizon. Then hang around for the party as artists and street performers entertain the crowd with dancing circus cats, fire jugglers, fortune tellers, musicians, and vendors selling handmade items. brbrIf you like beaches, the locals’ favorite is Fort Zachery Taylor, where you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment. Bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, and picnic tables are also available. Or maybe you’ll decide to skip the beach to explore the adjacent Civil War-era fort, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973. brbrIf this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don’t miss anything. Noah's Retreat - Private Home in Truman Annex

Key West, Florida, United States

If you are in a Key West state of mind, you are going to find Noah's Retreat, a custom-built home, ideal for your vacation rental: 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, dedicated parking, and professional landscaping around a climate-controlled private pool. All this in the most desirable gated community on the island, Truman Annex. This Old Town address is situated with Waterfront Park and the Gulf of Mexico behind it and the internationally famous Duval Street a few blocks in front of it. brbrOff a quiet, tree-lined street, through a Hunter green metal gate, up a few stairs locates you on the front porch of this two-story home. Once inside, the first thing of note is the terra cotta tile floors in Spanish Mission Red that run as far as the eye can see, unifying the look of the whole first floor. To the right is a full bath and u-shaped kitchen flooded with the warmth of natural light to the left. In fact, the whole house can brag of glorious natural light.brbrAs you would expect, the kitchen is well planned and provides all the appliances and amenities required for an ideal cook's kitchen. Cupboards above and below keep everything you are not using out of sight and out of your way. One end of the kitchen counter conveniently doubles as stool seating, an ideal spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. The open-space floor plan affords a glorious view from the kitchen right through the dining and living areas, through glass doors, to the outside deck and pool. Noah's Retreat engenders a meditative sense of living at once inside and outside which in Key West is an exemplary lifestyle. brbrImmediately adjacent to the kitchen are French doors that lead into one of the home's delicious bedrooms. This Twin-bedded room can be set up as a King bed upon request. Above the doors but within the door frame, is lovely glass art featuring stylized dolphins and marine plants in striking hues of blue and green. The room's multi-colored area rug depicting swimming turtles continues the marine theme and sets a colorful tone. The headboards are appropriately of woven sea reeds and the bedside table lamps are fashioned of starfish. Above is a ceiling fan to increase air circulation. A closet with shelves and a second, double-sided closet with hanging area provides plenty of space for a travel wardrobe and accouterments. brbrThe dining area has a hardwood table and six chairs, the perfect setup for a formal or casual meal, a board game of some sort, or maybe a card game. The living room has two overstuffed chairs with throw pillows, one of which aptly reads, Key West Is My Happy Place. Nicely situated to be seen from the comfy couch and chairs is an entertainment center housing a large flatscreen TV and shelves with interesting art pieces and books. You might even want to put your feet up on the distressed coffee table with drawer and a shelf underneath. A ceiling fan whirrs quietly above. And of course, there's high-speed internet, central air, and cable.brbrThrough multiple glass doors is the outside living space, and Noah's Retreat affords plenty of that starting with a covered hardwood deck. Here you and yours can eat at the table, sit in chairs to read or chat, or stretch out on one of the chaise loungers to get some sun. As with the kitchen, amenities abound. For example, the gas grill which suggests a meal of fresh-caught grilled local fish. From here enjoy the stunning sight of the L shaped pool with its own waterfall and tropical foliage perimeter. Perhaps take advantage of its sparkling, climate-controlled waters for a float or swim any time of day or night in pool attire or less. The sun and puffy white clouds float above. Next to the pool is parking in the attractive carport integrated into a white picket fence. brbrThe marine theme and color scheme continue on the second floor. Like the first floor unified by the Mexican tiles, this floor has gleaming hardwood floors throughout and features two delightful bedrooms. The master is of a generous size and includes a king bed, a full bath, laundry room, and nicely appointed sitting area with TV. Not to mention that through glass doors, an outside covered balcony running the whole width of the house overlooks the dazzling pool. It's the perfect a-ha place to enjoy your good luck at being in Key West and residing at Noah's Retreat for your stay. The other bedroom, the queen, also has a large balcony looking over the tree-line neighborhood of Truman Annex. It has its own full bath.brbrAs if Noah's Retreat by itself doesn't provide enough pleasure, there's still the rest of Key West to explore. Stroll through the manicured landscaping, verdant palms, and interconnecting pathways that give the Truman Annex neighborhood its park-like atmosphere. Then head out through the wrought iron privacy gate to find yourself in the midst of Duval's tourist attractions: tours, museums, shopping, bars, and restaurants, many with open-air seating, some right on the water. If you're interested in watersports, the Historic Seaport offers all kinds: diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing to name a few. Don't miss the nightly sunset celebration at Mallory Square, where visitors and locals alike gather to applaud as the sun slips below the horizon. Afterward, stick around for the festivities that follow. brbrMaybe your taste runs more towards the arts. If so, you're in the right place for music, movies, plays, art galleries, lectures, and more. If you like beaches, your accommodations are close to a favorite locals' beach, Fort Zachery Taylor, where you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment. Bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, and picnic tables are also available. Or maybe you'll decide to skip the beach in favor of exploring the adjacent Civil War-era fort, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973. brbrIf this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don’t miss anything. Private Vacation Home

La Isla Vita - Downtown Key West!

Key West, Florida, United States

For special moments indoors, this spotless, single-family home offers 2 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a tropical-island ambiance created by oodles of local art. For special moments outdoors, there’s a wide front porch, and a second-floor front balcony. In the back is a screened-in porch next to an open-air barbecue and sun deck. Just beyond is a shared, temperature-controlled pool of a size seldom seen in Key West. All is surrounded by lush tropical landscaping that creates privacy and tranquility. Maybe you don’t need to read any further. But there is one more critical factor. Less than two blocks off the internationally famous Duval Street the location couldn’t be more ideal no matter what you might come to Key West to enjoy.brbrFrom the street, you can only peek at the house because it is masked in vibrant green foliage swaying in ocean breezes. A white picket fence, which is emblematic of housing on the island, rings the front. There is no off-street parking as the owner utilizes the parking space, but there is typically street parking out front. Up a brick path is the front porch and entrance. You enter the foyer overlooking a highly polished oak staircase leading to the second-floor bedrooms. brbrTo the left is a welcoming living room in sunshine yellows and ocean blue decorative tones. A sleek wooden ceiling fan with light whirrs above circulating air and adding ambience. A spacious couch with a lounge element at one end is perfectly positioned for conversation or for viewing a flatscreen TV across the room. The couch also doubles as a queen pull-out bed should someone stop by unexpectedly. The TV is mounted on a one-of-a-kind, locally hand painted cabinet across the room. Between the couch and one of two overstuffed armchairs and the TV is a set of percussion instruments you can almost imagine Ricky Ricardo playing to a Latin beat.brbrOn another wall is the door to the guest half-bath which features a gorgeous hand painted ocean scene complete with sand and real seashells. Right past the second overstuffed chair is a wall of French doors that provide plenty of ambient light and a view of the sundeck with a gas grill and table and chairs for alfresco dining. Or eat indoors/outdoors in the screened-in porch so convenient for morning coffee or a casual lunch. Of course, there’s central AC, high-speed internet, and cable TV at your fingertips throughout.brbrTo the right of the foyer is a highly functional kitchen with new appliances and amenities any vacationer could wish for, whether for warming leftovers, preparing gourmet meals, or grilling some fresh-caught grouper on the BBQ deck. Everything has been thought of in advance. The light, contemporary tile from the foyer and living room carries through here and is the perfect complement to white hardwood cabinets above and below. The ample counters are granite. To the left of the stove and refrigerator is a multi-functional kitchen bar with counter stools perfect for coffee or breakfast or reading the newspaper. One of the stunning aspects of the kitchen are the handblown glass jellyfish lamps over the bar that again display the uniqueness and beauty of this home.brbrTucked in an out-of-the-way corner nearby is the laundry closet with full size stacked washer and dryer and shelves for supplies. Here, too, is a door that leads onto the screened-in porch. This area includes a couch, chairs, and a small table perfect for however you decide to use it. Maybe for swim fins or floats. The large rectangular pool is temperature controlled and for the exclusive use of the other homes in the compound. It would be hard not to spend time in the sparkling blue water looking up at puffy white clouds floating over.brbrBack inside and up the grand staircase are the 2 bedrooms. To the right is the master with an extremely comfy king bed and ensuite full bath. To the left is the second bedroom with twin beds that can function separately or together make a second king bed. This also has an ensuite full bath. There’s abundant storage for hanging and folded items. Both have plenty of windows to let in sunlight or moonlight. Both rooms are artistically appointed in sunshine yellows and ocean blues with local subjects—sea turtles, water birds, corals, a school of fish. At the top of the staircase, between the bedrooms, is a door that opens onto the second-story balcony where you can sit and enjoy the treetops or see locals below bicycling by or walking their dogs.brbrDon’t rush (because no one rushes on a tropical island), but when it’s time to explore the island, you’ll find yourself conveniently located a block from Duval which runs the whole width of the island. Turn left a couple of blocks to find the Atlantic Ocean; turn right twelve blocks to find the Gulf of Mexico. brOn the world-famous Duval street, you’ll find what Key West is famous and infamous for: tours, beaches, museums, water sports, shopping, and bars. Numerous restaurants, many with open-air seating, some right on the water, offer a plethora of food and drink options. The island offers plenty of cultural activities as well such as live music, art exhibitions, and plays. Perhaps catch a movie on one of the three screens at the Tropic Cinema. Or stop in at Books & Books to catch a glimpse of the author Judy Blume stocking the shelves. brbrBe sure to check your phone for sunset times so you don’t miss the daily celebration at Mallory Square on the Gulf of Mexico. It’s where you’ll find locals, visitors, kids, and dogs alike gathering to witness the sun sinking into the horizon and to applaud as the last round edge of fiery orange disappears. Then most stick around to party on the dock with musicians, street performers, art and jewelry vendors, and food and drink carts.brbrCredit Card Surcharge Notice: The owner of this unit asks guests to cover the processing fees for credit card payments. If you’d like to avoid the 3% surcharge, please reach out to our office to make your reservation and arrange payment by check. This Home has a doorbell camera. brbrIf this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don’t miss anything. Maybe instead you picture yourself sitting under a shade umbrella with a glass of ice tea or some frothy cocktail. Maybe you'll email a selfie from here to friends back home. The best part of a vacation is that the choice of how to spend your time is all yours. There is assigned off street parking for one mid size or smaller car. (If your vehicle is too large to park in the space (vehicles must be less than 16 ft.) you will have to find on street parking.)brbrUp a few stairs from the winding walkway, you step onto the private, covered front porch of the cottage that looks like it could qualify for the cover of Cottage Style or Southern Living. Freshly painted wooden decking, two white wicker arm chairs with pillows, and a matching wicker side table offer a perfect place to enjoy a morning latte and a pastry from the Old Town Bakery. A wall-mounted lantern next to the front door provides illumination and a stylish accent piece to complete the picture. As you enter through the front door, the living area is to your left. It offers a cozy conversation cluster: couch, two armchairs, a coffee table, an area rug, and two lamps, each decorated with cheery hand-painted images of bright tropical fish. To the right are two armchairs and a round table next to a stereo and TV cabinet. Of course there's cable TV, wireless high-speed Internet, and a DVD player. Ceiling fans throughout help circulate air and add a beachy flair to the design scheme.brbrThe galley kitchen has blond cabinets, some with glass doors, set into clean white walls. Black accents in the appliances and artwork add the right touch of contrast. Everything you need to create a gourmet meal is handy. Or even if you feel less ambitious, the kitchen is highly functional and made even more so by a breakfast bar with accompanying chair stools. A window over the double sink ushers in plenty of ambient light, as do the sliding glass doors opening onto the back deck. Looking out, you see something amazing-a large tree trunk growing through the wooden deck planking and extending through the roof. Glancing up, you can see the top of the tree and all its leaves in canopy form above. The private deck comes complete with glass-top table and four chairs. The gas grill is nearby in case you get inspired to barbeque for lunch or dinner and enjoy your feast al fresco at the table, maybe with a glass of your favorite wine or a bottle of some craft beer. Or relax in the hammock chair suspended in one corner.brbrBack inside, next to the living room, is an inviting bedroom with queen bed and all the creature comforts like fluffy bedding, side tables, lamps, a ceiling fan, dresser, TV, and a generous closet for hanging clothes. A framed painting of a conch cottage adds fun Key West color to the room. The full bath is adjacent to the bedroom and also cleverly designed to be accessible through another door opening into the living room. Like the rest of the cottage, the dominant bath color is cloud white with colorful art accents on the walls. A shelf holds plenty of nubby white bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths.brbrWhen you're unpacked and ready, slip on your flip-flops and head out to explore the rest of the Southernmost City. Walking just three blocks will bring you to the Historic Seaport and Harbor Walk. Follow the wooden board walk along the Gulf of Mexico to find historic tall ships offering day and sunset cruises or take an all-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas. If you're interested in watersports, there's all kinds-diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing. If you get hungry, a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality ring the harbor. brbrOr walk two blocks in the other direction to Duval Street to check out tours, museums, shopping, more restaurants, more bars, and the Key West Aquarium, where you can pet a shark if you dare. Check you cell phone for sunset time so you don't miss the legendary celebration at Mallory Square, where locals and visitors alike gather to witness the sun sinking into the horizon. Be sure to applaud at the magical moment when the last round edge of fiery orange disappears. If you're lucky, maybe you'll catch the elusive neon green flash at the last second. Hang around to enjoy the carnival atmosphere as artists and street performers entertain the crowd with circus cats and magic tricks. Others juggle fire, tell fortunes, strum guitars, and sell handmade items. In between you can buy conch fritters and other small food items while pop-up sidewalk bars offer many varieties of cocktails, wine, beer, and soda. brbrIf this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don’t miss anything. Quilted Giraffe - Private Home in Old Town Key West

Key West, Florida, United States

Your space. Your vacation lifestyle. The Quilted Giraffe provides both. This two-bedroom, two full bath home welcomes you from its quiet neighborly front porch facing tree-lined Elizabeth street to its private deck and heated pool in the rear. The location called Solares Hill is a part of Old Town Key West that brags about being the highest elevation on the island, all of eighteen feet above sea level. Whatever the altitude, this Hill location is central to everything from the Historic Seaport to Duval Street, yet it's removed enough to be your get-away-from-it-all haven.brbrThe inviting rectangular pool on the back half of the property sparkles topaz in the midday sun or is equally inviting in shimmering moonlight. A pristine wooden deck and luxuriant tropical foliage surround it. The backdrop to all this natural beauty is a ten-foot wood fence that creates privacy and adds to the ambience. The deck extends up to the back of the house-some of it open to the sky with ample room to lounge in the sun, some roofed for when you prefer the shade. The covered area also features a convenient outdoor shower, and table with chairs. A Casablanca ceiling fan above circulates delightful tropical air tinged with the sweet smell of jasmine and gardenia. brbrFrom the deck, you enter the house through classic French doors. This light-filled room is an informal den featuring deep arm chairs, an ottoman, and an L-shaped couch configuration perfect for conversation, watching TV, or gazing through the doors and the floor-to-ceiling windows to the deck and pool. The wall opposite the windows and doors features a long maple cabinet that holds the TV, framed pictures of local scenes, and art objects with drawers below. A sisal area rug brings the room together visually and creates a cushiony surface for bare feet.brbrAscending up a carpeted staircase from the den, you'll find the second story master bedroom and full bath with a double sink and ample ambient light. The walls are white pine; white louvered doors cover generous closet spaces. Above the king bed, which offers an inviting stage for a great night's sleep, are two rectangular windows showcasing palm fronds waving in outside breezes. As in all the rooms in the Quilted Giraffe, the outside and inside seem to be intentionally intertwined.brbrBack downstairs, next to the den, there's a second bedroom with twin beds steps from the second full bath. Down a short hall way, past a colorful painting called La Bodeguita Del Medio, is the kitchen featuring every appliance you could need and a handy pass-through to the dining table and chairs. Above the counters and cabinets is a shelf and window where colorful glass pieces glisten in the sunlight, lending elegance and interest to the predominately white kitchen.brbrA wall-mounted spirit mask with full bark dress guards the living room, imparting a sense of calm and spiritual empowerment to all who enter the Quilted Giraffe. The unusual hanging looks great and sets the tone for other African and Cuban art throughout the house. Colorful pillows in tropical hues decorate the couch and echo the art work thoughtfully arranged on the walls. This home is Pet (Dog) Friendly**(please see below or our FAQ page for rules and restrictions). brbrOnce you've changed into shorts and flip-flops and are ready to leave the Quilted Giraffe for a little while, there's still the rest of Key West to explore. Turn left at the white picket fence and walk toward the Historic Seaport on the Gulf of Mexico to find a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality located right at water's edge. Or check out the impressive tall ships like the Western Union, most offering daytime and sunset sails. Maybe sign up for other water sports like snorkeling, jet skiing, parasailing, and kayaking. Or walk a few blocks to Duval to check out tours, museums, shopping, bars, and still more restaurants. As Mr. Chapman who rides his lighted bike playing Motown music down Duval nightly says, Key West is like no other place on earth. You'll discover the truth behind this statement as you explore the southernmost city for yourself.brbrIf this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don’t miss anything. Other info on the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events can be found at milezerokeywest.com (calendar section). The first room offers a comfy queen bed and en-suite full bath. The second, the Master bedroom, offers a just-as-comfy king bed, en-suite full bath, and, through glass doors, a private fresh air balcony with four chairs. If you feel inclined to enjoy a morning latte or nightcap, this is the perfect spot. brbrAfter you’ve checked out this exceptional living space, wander down to the temperature-controlled pool reserved for the exclusive use of Duval Square townhouse residents. The pool and chaise loungers are very inviting. Sit here under the canopied roof for shade or out in the sun to work on a tan. If other bathers are enjoying the pool at the same time, you can strike up a conversation, share vacation stories, and get tips about great places to go in Key West. Although the townhome comes with covered parking for a car, you can walk or bike almost anywhere you want to go from this ideal location.brbrWhen adventure calls, wander down to the shops, boutiques, a full-service salon, and restaurants that comprise the charming Duval Square. The Square has the feel of a courtyard garden with the convenience of services and food added in. Down a few steps from here brings you to Duval Street itself, which has been officially designated a Great Street by the American Planning Association. A left turn will head you toward the shores of the Atlantic and a right turn will head you toward the Gulf.brbrIn between are all the things that make the Conch Republic so famous: beaches, tours, museums, shopping, over two hundred restaurants, bars, and the Key West Aquarium where you can pet a shark if you dare. Or maybe you’d prefer to have butterflies land on your shoulder at the Butterfly Conservatory. Perhaps have your picture taken at the Southernmost Point buoy or pose with a parrot perched on your head. If the arts are of interest, you’ve come to the right place for music, movies, plays, art galleries, lectures, artists in residence open studios, and more. brbrCheck your phone for sunset times so you don’t miss the world-famous celebration at Mallory Square. Be there as locals and visitors alike gather seven days a week, 365 days a year, to witness the sun sinking into the horizon. Be sure to applaud as the last round edge of fiery orange disappears. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll see the elusive “green flash” and claim the bragging rights for years to come. Then stick around as artists and street performers entertain the enthusiastic crowd with performing cats, fire eaters, musicians, fortune tellers, and morebrbrFind opportunities for all kinds of water sports along the Historic Seaport boardwalk. Maybe sign up for a sunset sail, a fishing charter, or try water sport opportunities like diving, parasailing, snorkeling, jet-skiing, and more. Maybe take a Conch Train or Trolly ride to preview the island. If this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don’t miss anything.
