Lake Superior Ice/Sea Caves Bay Lodging. Near Apostle Islands & Bayfield

Cornucopia, Wisconsin, United States

A living canvas of color, scent, and touch no artisan but Divine inspires. brGitchigumi - Ojibwe for Great Water is the largest freshwater lake by area in the world. The Lake is powerful, magnetic and transforming in any season. Our humble beach front home is situated on 20 secluded acres on the Lake's south shore. We have 400' of sand beach 100' from the house and easily accessible (no stairs). The stream that runs through the property is teaming with brook trout, beaver, otter and ducks. One half mile walk down the shoreline is another trout stream that marks the south west boundary of the Apostle Islands National Park. brWe have a boat launch ramp on the property, but there is no dock or mooring in the bay. Boats can also be launched from the marina in Cornucopia 2 miles away by water. Any boats kept in our bay would have to be anchored or beached if wave action permits.brbrThe Lake must be respected as it can be pristine one minute and brutal the next, but contrary to those unfamiliar with the south shore waters, the bay waters can be comfortable to swim in from the middle of June to the middle of September. That depends entirely, of coarse, on your courage level and the weather. Wake boarding, snorkeling, body surfing, fishing, hunting, boating, four wheeling and walking the beach are frequent pass times here in the summer. Snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing and sledding are winter sport. brMy brother and I purchased this property from our father in January 2017 and completed the extensive remodeling a year later with cherry and birch flooring, cherry and juniper paneling. It is a simple home on an exceptional piece of property. The Ice and Sea Caves are world class attractions and can be seen from our front deck. The caves are accessible by foot in the winter when the ice is safe and your dressed for it. They are accessible in the summer by boat or by hiking trails that start at Myer's beach one mile to the east.brIf you think the lake is beautiful and intimidating, build a fire on the beach at night some time, lay on the sand on a clear night and try to imagine your place in the clearly visible Milky Way.brThe view alone is humbling, but the experience is.........spiritual.brbrBy the shores of Gitche Gumee,brBy the shining Big-Sea-Water,brStood the wigwam of Nokomis,brDaughter of the Moon, Nokomis.brDark behind it rose the forest,brRose the black and gloomy pine-trees,brRose the firs with cones upon them;brBright before it beat the water,brBeat the clear and sunny water,brBeat the shining Big-Sea-Water.brbr At the door on summer eveningsbrSat the little Hiawatha;brHeard the whispering of the pine-trees,brHeard the lapping of the waters,brSounds of music, words of wonder;br'Minne-wawa! said the pine-trees,brMudway-aushka! said the water.brbrHenry Wadsworth Longfellow

Corny Cottage | Escape to the Lake

Cornucopia, Wisconsin, United States

Looking for the picture-perfect lakefront cottage that makes you feel like you’re getting away from it all, but still convenient to all Lake Superior’s South Shore has to offer You’ll find this and more at Corny Cottage!brbrThis two-bedroom, one-bath lakefront cottage perfectly combines modern style (and amenities!) with the cozy charm that makes this area so authentic.brbrNOTE: During the winter, the three-season porch section of the cottage will very likely be too cold to utilize.brbrThe South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. The guest book contains tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S. brbrThe home is just a few minutes from the center of Cornucopia, which has a delightful general store/market, awesome coffee shop, bar/restaurant, and marina. Bayfield is about 25 minutes away, as is Washburn (where you’ll find the largest grocery store in the area). Ashland is about 35 minutes away, with a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and a wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.brbrWe’re not sure what is the best feature of Corny Cottage: its stunning lakefront setting (not to mention views!) or the incredible combination of indoor-outdoor living the cottage provides. brbrThe cottage interior has an open-plan living/kitchen area that opens up to an amazing three-season porch, all with floor-to-ceiling views out to the lake. brbrNOTE: During the winter, the three-season porch section of the cottage will very likely be too cold to utilize. We reduce our rates in the winter months accordingly, as we know this cuts down on the amount of space to lounge and dine. If you have any questions about this, please reach out anytime!brbrThe kitchen has been thoughtfully appointed with everything and anything you need, including a wide range of spices, coffee (we feature coffee beans fresh-roasted just a few miles away), key appliances, as well as cookware/bakeware galore! We especially love the kitchen’s island, which provides additional prep space as well as can serve as an informal dining area (with stools for four people). brbrThe living area has a crazy-comfy sofa (that converts to a full-size bed), wide-screen tv, gas fireplace, and a leather recliner that you may never want to leave.brbrThe living/dining area flows into the three-season porch via two glass French doors. Your group will likely want to spend nearly all their time out here! The porch has a sectional, two lovely wood rocker chairs, and a dining table that can seat six comfortably. The porch is enclosed on three sides with floor-to-ceiling windows. You can gaze out at the lake while relaxing or dining. And with not having to deal with pesky summer insects!brbrA deck connects directly to the porch, which houses another dining table (for four) and gas grill. You can head out to the large back yard from the deck, which has a fire pit, hammock, another dining table, and our favorite, a wood glider swing that’s perched at the edge of the property. brbrCertainly the most impressive feature of this property is the lake, in particular, the wonderful platform that sits just a few steps above the lakeshore (accessed via a set of stairs from the property’s edge). You can spend the whole day here lounging, reading, or just enjoying the view and the sound of the waves.brbrThe cottage’s two bedrooms both have queen-size beds (both with brand-new plush mattresses), oh-so-cozy bedding, and windows with views into the woods around the cottage. brbrThe property’s owner took extraordinary care to preserve the rustic, lakefront charm of the cottage’s bones, but with updates to provide all the modern comforts one could desire.brbrCorny Cottage is the *real* South Shore experience: all the attention to detail you’d expect from a high-end Bayfield peninsula rental, but without the stuffiness or lack of character. We want you to kick your shoes off, put your feet up, relax and enjoy the company of friends, family, and your furry four-footed companions.brbrYou'll need a car to reach the cabin as there's no public transit to speak of on the South Shore (on th other hand, we've never even heard of traffic up here!). The nearest airport is in Duluth, about an hour and 15 minutes away.brbrThis home is in a heavily wooded area: seasonal pests/bugs can be expected.brWatch children and pets near bluff/water's edge, there is no fencing.brThis home is dog friendly: While we make a considerable effort to clean up pet hair between guests, there may still be a few stray hairs in the home.brThe cottage has two bedrooms and then a pull-out couch in the main living area. There is also a sectional in the porch that can pull out to a bed during the summer months. This makes for an ideal set up for two couples or family with young kids who would enjoy sleeping on a couch! br- Short drive or stroll to the nearest beach

Cornucopia, Wisconsin, United States

Great things come in small packages! Book your dream getaway to Lake Superior’s South Shore at Lupine Landing, Cornucopia’s most charming tiny home. This 500 square foot cottage (plus a four-season porch) may be small in size, but it has every amenity you may want, plus stunning Lake Superior views. brbrYour host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. She lives nearby and is available 24/7 to assist her guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.brbrThe South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. Bayfield is about 25 minutes away, and it's roughly a half an hour to Washburn (where you’ll find the largest grocery store in the area). Ashland is about 40 minutes away, with a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and a wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.brbrLupine Landing is located on Spirit Point in Cornucopia, a teeny peninsula that sticks out into Lake Superior & Siskiwit Bay. The home sits on a nearly two-acre parcel which gives you plenty of greenery all around on top of the stunning lake views.brbrThe entrance of the cottage takes you right into the light-filled four-season porch. This is likely where you’ll want to have your morning coffee and evening beverages as you can cozy up on the couch and gaze out at the lake without having to fight off mosquitos (or the cold)! The porch also has an fine assortment of games, should you have a rainy or lazy day during your stay.brbrOnce you enter the cottage proper, you’ll first notice how spacious it feels, thanks to the vaulted ceilings and open plan layout. The main part of the cottage houses the kitchen, dining, and living areas. You’ll be amazed at how functional and fully-outfitted such a small space is! The kitchen, while small, has every appliance (even a popcorn maker!), utensil, and cookware item you may need. The dining table seats up to three. And it has the cutest little refrigerator you’ve ever seen! brbrThe living area has a full-size couch and a comfy swivel chair, both situated to enjoy the warmth of the gas fireplace and the views of the lake.brbrThe two bedrooms are compact, but have everything you’d need, so thoughtfully set up & organized. The first bedroom has a full-size bed (brand new memory foam mattresses are in both bedroom) and the second bedroom has a queen-size bed. Both have windows with views out into the woods & gardens, charging stations, ceiling fans, and ample storage for your luggage & belongings.brbrThe bathroom also feels surprisingly spacious - it has a large shower, single vanity, and a surprisingly large medicine closet for your toiletries. brbrEverything about Lupine Landing feels modern, new, and so well thought-out. We’re confident you’ll fall in love with this tiny cabin that has a big heart!brbr*Please note that there are two exterior cameras monitoring the front door and the exterior of the garage.brbrDue to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!brbrThis home is in a heavily wooded area: seasonal pests/bugs can be expected.brAlthough the home is water-facing, there is not direct beach access from the property.brWatch children near bluff/water's edge, as there is no fencing.brThere are no fires allowed other than use of the propane fire-table. br- Short drive to Cornucopia and Meyers beachbrThis home has a security camera which monitors the driveway/front of the propertybr As much as we love dogs, canine guests are NOT allowed at this property. We're happy to help you locate a dog-friendly rental should you require one.

Cabin

Birch Haven | Spectacular Lakefront Log Cabin

Cornucopia, Wisconsin, United States

Find your haven at Birch Haven on Lake Superior! This is an incredible four-bedroom cabin with tons of common areas for your whole crew, a vaulted cathedral ceiling, a dream kitchen, and a loft, not to mention some fantastic outdoor hangout spaces. See Lake Superior up close—we’ve got stairs down to the water (seasonally) —and get the eagle’s eye view from the loft. Either way, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the water, and with a whole wall of picture windows, you won't ever have to!brbrYour host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. The guest book contains tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S. brbrBirch Haven is just five minutes from all the fun in Cornucopia: restaurants, shops, and one of the prettiest beaches anywhere on the lake. It's about 25 minutes from Bayfield and about 40 minutes from Ashland, where you['ll find a good selection of groceries and other amenities. Duluth-Superior is a little over an hour away.brbrStep in the front door of Birch Haven and you’ll be blown away: you're looking at a whole wall of windows facing Siskiwit Bay on Lake Superior. Behind you are log posts holding up a sleeping loft--and above it all, a soaring cathedral ceiling. The sitting area has a sofa and chairs and a smart TV in the corner: it’s there when you want to watch and out of the way when you want time away from screens. If you’re here in cold weather, you’ll love lighting a fire in the wood fireplace. And if it's hot outside fear not: we've got air conditioning at the touch of a button!brbrThe kitchen is gorgeous, with all-new appliances and beautiful wood cabinets. If you’re in the mood to whip up a feast we’ve got you covered with everything from an icemaker to a slow cooker. You'll love all the extra prep space on the kitchen island. Behind the kitchen you’ll find another treat: a washer and dryer with a second sink for all your cleanup needs and when it’s time to dine , you can seat six at the table, plus bar seating for four at the island (and don’t worry, with a whole wall of windows, you can keep watching the water while you eat).brbrAt the back of the first floor, under the loft, you’ll find the primary bedroom: with a king bed on a rustic log frame, it’s your cozy den when it’s time to hibernate. The primary bathroom serves the first floor, but it also acts as an en suite bath, with a separate door to the main bedroom. It’s a bright space with crisp white tile, new fixtures, and glass shower doors.brbrUpstairs in the loft, you’ll find a cozy common area: there’s a reading nook with an inviting chaise lounge, and, if you need to get some work done while you’re here, there’s an office space too, plus a small balcony that looks over the trees. The view from up here, through the second-story picture windows and down to the water, might be the most spectacular of all, though the view down to the first floor is pretty cool on its own.brbrThe upstairs bed is also a king. There’s a smart TV for binge-watching in bed, and a ceiling fan for extra comfort. This bedroom also has a small balcony (with its own view of the water) and an en suite bath (with a tub/shower): it’s a bright, cozy space with wood paneling and clean fixtures. brbrHead down the stairs to the basement, and you’ll find even more common areas: a den with a sofa sectional and a table and chairs, a big TV, and a stash of board games, and get your vibe on while listening to albums on the turntable (many albums to choose from). If you’ve got a fitness routine to keep up, fear not: there’s also a rowing machine with an interactive touch screen. The basement area is the only area that we ask remains off limits to your canine companions, in order to protect the more delicate furnishings down there. We've provided a movable baby gate you can put up at the bottom of the stairs to support this cause. brbrThere are two bedrooms downstairs, and both have queen beds. One also has smart TV and a ceiling fan. Since both of these bedrooms are removed from the main levels of the cabin, they're great spots for light sleepers, or for anyone who’s after some serious shuteye.brbrThe fun continues outside the cabin too. There’s a gorgeous deck with a tall table and chairs plus a pair of chaise lounges and a gas firepit--and, not surprisingly, a great view of the water. If you head down the stairs off the deck you’ll be on a lovely lawn: it’s perfect for games and any other outdoor fun you can think of (we've got a corn hole set to get you started). We've also got a newly-built set of stairs down toward the water and a fire pit on the grass for your outdoor enjoyment, and if it’s summer and it’s a little buggy, don't worry—there’s a nice screen porch off the kitchen with its own view of the lake. brbrDue to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!brbrThere is seasonal stairway access to a modest stone ledge by the water, but full beach access is not available. The Cornucopia Beach is just a couple miles away.brWatch children and pets by bluff/water edge, there is no fencing.brThis home has a security camera pointing at the driveway area. brThis home is dog friendly: While we make a considerable effort to clean up pet hair between guests, there may still be a few stray hairs in the home.brThis home is in the north woods: seasonal bugs/pests can be expected.
