The Carriage House is a One Bedroom, two level, two Bath, 800 square-foot cabin with over 300 square-feet of deck on both levels. The Carriage House was designed by the McDonald family in the “mountain log lodge vernacular”. (Please note both bathrooms are located on the 2nd floor, upstairs.) The first floor has a full kitchen, dining area, and a convertible living room that includes a high end queen sized sofa sleeper. We also have two twin size roll away beds available upon request. These two roll-away beds can be added to the lower or upper levels. The second floor has a full bathroom which includes a shower / tub combo, located at the top of the stairs. The second floor also includes the master bedroom, with a separate full bath with a walk in shower, two sink vanity area, and water closet. The master has a queen bed with high end bedding. There is an entrance from the master suite out to a beautiful wrap around redwood deck which has chairs and a spectacular view of the mountains and meadows.brbrWe feel that the elevated wrap around porch is one of the best things about the Carriage House. There is a large oak tree that the deck was built around bringing the nature of the hills close as you sit and enjoy the views from every angle. From its elevated decks, you have scenic views of mountain meadows and rolling wooded hills full of the famed dark ponderosa pine trees. Our meadows, although variable with the season, are rich in color and usually have an abundance of wildlife including deer, turkey, squirrels, etc. With just a short walk, Mt. Rushmore is visible through the trees!brbrThe Carriage House provides an in-cabin washer/dryer, as well as fully stocked cooking facilities. We have access to free Wi-Fi, a 32″ Roku smart TV, central air conditioning and heating, and outdoor dining facilities with a propane grill. (We supply the propane.) brbrMinimum age requirement for the Carriage House is three years old. On the property is a swing set and other outdoor equipment for children to use, including a large, well kept meadow.brbrMaximum occupancy of 5 people, I.E. – One family.brbrYou may park in front of the Carriage House entrance. Please do not block either garage door. Please leave enough room for traffic to get by from the garages and the other cabin nearby. The two car garage is not available for guest use. It is used as a business workspace and parking for the owner’s vehicle.

The Carol Jean is a historic cabin getaway that we renovated a few years ago. The Carol Jean includes a kitchenette with granite countertops and all new appliances. The bath includes a large natural rock shower. The cabin sleeps four, with a king bed on the first level and two twin beds on the second level (loft). There is an all redwood deck with a swing for outdoor relaxation.brbrAll cabins include Wifi, 32 Roku TV, air conditioning, heating, and outdoor dining facilities with access to a barbecue grill. Cell service can be spotty all through the Black Hills. However, we have recently, (Spring 2022), upgraded to Starlink satellite internet.brbrThis cabin has a swing set and other outdoor equipment in front of it for children to use. There is a large meadow on the property and if you walk to the end of it you can see Mt. Rushmore through the trees.brbrMcDonald Mountain Ranch is in a very convenient location. Center Lake is nearby, which is a swimming/fishing lake with picnic tables, barbeque grills, showers and restrooms; located 2 miles away from the ranch. The Black Hills Historic Playhouse is also within a few miles. The beautiful Iron Mountain Hiking Trail is right around the corner. The Wolf Camp outdoor restaurant which serves barbeque ribs, burgers, pizza, etc is 1/2 mile away. The entrance to Custer State Park is also right around the corner. In our opinion we have the best and most beautiful property and location in the hills!brbrMinimum age requirement is 3 yrs old.brbrWe do not have guest laundry facilities. There are laundromats in Keystone and Hill City.brbrUnfortunately due to many considerations and despite the fact that we are huge animal lovers, we do not allow pets in our property. If a guest arrives for their reservation with an animal they will NOT be given a rental key NOR issued a refund.brbrCheck in is at 4:00pm MST. Because we have a full house and are small staffed please do not arrive early. Late check in is fine, just give us a call to arrange it.brbrDriving and Parking Info: The Ranch is located directly off of a well maintained and paved county road. Our driveways are hard packed dirt and gravel. We have limited parking near each of the cabins and suites. We have an additional parking area at the rear of the main lodge. We have a large, well kept meadow beyond that for overflow parking of motorcycle trailers, side by sides, etc. We ask that you please do not block the main driveways or the two car garage at the front of the property.
