The Carriage House is a One Bedroom, two level, two Bath, 800 square-foot cabin with over 300 square-feet of deck on both levels. The Carriage House was designed by the McDonald family in the “mountain log lodge vernacular”. (Please note both bathrooms are located on the 2nd floor, upstairs.) Stayed Jul 11, 2025We had a great time while in South Dakota-the monuments and stunning views were second to none!The place we stayed was very clean and well taken care of.The VRBO listing, however, was absolutely misleading in that we were totally unaware that we would be in such close proximity to the owner and caretaker and other guest houses, based on the photograph of the cabin’s exterior.Again, the place was very nice, but when you believe that you are having a couple’s getaway and pay over 300/night for lodging, we really expected more seclusion.We would not stay at the same property again.

Stayed Jul 22, 2025Beautiful location, nicely decorated and well stocked with everything we needed! The deck is great for a morning cup of coffee or for relaxing in the evening. We saw deer and wild turkeys from the deck and enjoyed the view! Would highly recommend!

We felt right at home immediately.The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked and the bathrooms and bedrooms are modern and have lots of towels, blankets and anything else we needed. This is literally the perfect spot to land after a long day visiting the nearby sites such as Mount Rushmore, Deadwoid, and Coster State Park. Location is great, and the home is even better!

Stayed May 14, 2025We absolutely loved this place. The location was ideal to see all of the various sites. Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse are a relatively short drive and Custer state park is minutes away. Going to the Badlands is a bit of a drive, so we only went there one time. We went into the town of Custer several times (it is half an hour away) to take advantage of the nice restaurants in town. We went to the Sage Creek Grille for dinner and were extremely pleased. The Elk stuffed mushrooms and the Bison Strip steak were great. We also recommend the Spiced Dumplings for dessert. We also highly recommend The Custer Wolf where we had lunch twice. We had to come back for the Mushroom Saute. Totally to die for.The living space was very comfortable. We were very relaxed during our stay. The wifi and internet connection was great. We had no trouble streaming movies and tv shows during our stay. I had a clean connection for zoom meetings that I needed to do during the stay. We will come back if and when we return to South Dakota.
