Puerto Jimenez, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

This gorgeous property is situated in an acre of lovely garden with big trees, lawns, and 3 ponds from which emanates an amazing chorus of frogs every evening. Sitting on the veranda, the rainforest is right there and there are often monkeys or birds to see moving aboutbrbrHere's a couple of recent reviews from another booking platform: brbrIf you are a nature's lover Casa Ranas is the place to stay. We took some great pictures of kingfishers, tiger herons and over 10 species of frogs. The birds are plentiful and will wake you up in the morning with their unique songs and calls. The house is very clean and comfortable. Worth every penny. Jim and Sebastian are very helpful and respond quickly to any questions you may have. Food in nearby Playa Blanca was fantastic and so was in Puerto Jimenez. La Palma has a very decent grocery store in case you want to cook your own brbrCasa de las Ranas was incredible! You will feel completely immersed in the jungle there. It’s perfect for a Nature-lover. We saw SO many animals in the backyard — lizards, turtles, herons, toucans, scarlet macaws, and countless other birds! The trail behind the house is super fun to take. Kathrin communicated with us throughout our stay and she always had AMAZING recommendations. If you stay here, I encourage you to do a guided tour in Corcovado National Park (Kathrin has guides she recommends). This was a truly unique & unforgettable experience

Chosa Manglar Nature Suites & Cabins, 2 Bedroom Apartment

Puerto Jiménez, CR-P, Costa Rica

Sitting inside the world’s first recognized Tropical Urban Park (TUP)brbrChosa Manglar Suites and Cabins sit inside the world’s first recognized Tropical Urban Park (TUP), a living natural area woven directly into the fabric of Puerto Jiménez. This is a place where the forest, mangrove, and town meet without boundaries, and where daily life unfolds in the presence of wildlife, shade, and the quiet movement of the tropics. The property is shaped by mature trees, open gardens, and soft pathways that connect each dwelling to the larger rhythm of the park. Guests stay within an environment that feels both sheltered and open, close to nature yet steps from the center of town.brbrbrbrThe Tropical Urban Park is defined by its ability to hold biodiversity and community in the same space. At Chosa Manglar, this becomes visible in the way mornings begin with birdsong, how afternoons settle into stillness beneath the canopy, and how evenings carry the subtle sounds of the forest returning to activity. Wildlife moves freely through the property—sometimes seen, sometimes only sensed—reminding guests that they are sharing a living landscape rather than observing it from a distance. The experience is not curated or staged; it is simply the natural rhythm of the tropics continuing around you.brbrbrbrThe suites and cabins are designed to support this kind of stay. They are simple, comfortable, and intentionally unobtrusive, allowing the surrounding environment to remain the central presence. Each dwelling offers a quiet place to rest, read, reflect, or prepare for the day’s explorations. The architecture is modest and grounded, shaped by airflow, shade, and the practical needs of tropical living. Nothing is excessive, and nothing competes with the landscape. Instead, the dwellings act as small anchors within the park, giving guests a sense of place without separating them from the environment.brbrbrbrPaths throughout the property lead to shared spaces where guests can pause, gather, or simply observe the movement of the day. Some areas open to the sky; others are held beneath dense canopy. There are corners for solitude and corners for conversation, all connected by the same gentle spatial logic that defines the Tropical Urban Park. The layout encourages unhurried movement—slow walks to breakfast, quiet returns in the afternoon, and soft transitions into evening. It is a place where time stretches, not because there is nothing to do, but because the environment invites a different pace. Being inside the world’s first recognized Tropical Urban Park also means being part of a larger ecological and cultural story. brbrbrbrPuerto Jiménez is a small town with a strong connection to the land and sea, and Chosa Manglar reflects that relationship. Guests can step out of the property and immediately access local cafés, small shops, and the daily rhythms of the community. At the same time, the park provides a buffer of calm, allowing guests to return to a quieter space after exploring the town or the surrounding landscapes of the Osa Peninsula. This balance—between immersion and access, between nature and community—is what defines the TUP identity.brbrbrbrThe experience at Chosa Manglar is not about luxury in the conventional sense. It is about presence, atmosphere, and the feeling of being held within a living environment. It is about waking up to filtered light through leaves, noticing the patterns of wildlife, and experiencing the tropics not as a backdrop but as a companion. It is about the simplicity of a well‑designed space that supports rest and reflection without distraction. It is about being close to the essentials: shade, breeze, movement, and the quiet continuity of the natural world.brbrbrbrGuests often describe their stay not in terms of amenities, but in terms of moments: a morning spent listening to birds, an unexpected encounter with a coati or a troop of monkeys, a peaceful afternoon reading in a shaded corner, or a walk through town that ends with a return to the calm of the park. These moments accumulate into a kind of gentle immersion—one that does not demand effort or expertise, only attention.brbrbrbrChosa Manglar Suites and Cabins are part of a broader vision for the Tropical Urban Park: a place where ecological authenticity and community life coexist, where visitors can experience the tropics in a grounded and respectful way, and where the environment is not a spectacle but a shared space. The property serves as an introduction to this vision, offering guests a stay that is both accessible and meaningful, simple and memorable.brbrbrbrWhether guests come for a short visit or a longer stay, the experience is shaped by the same elements: the presence of wildlife, the comfort of shade, the ease of movement, and the quiet sense of being inside a living landscape. Chosa Manglar is not a retreat from the world; it is a place where the world feels more connected, more immediate, and more alive.brbrbrbrIn this way, the suites and cabins become more than accommodations. They become part of the Tropical Urban Park itself—small, thoughtful spaces that support the larger identity of the park and invite guests to experience the tropics with clarity, calm, and curiosity. - Sitting inside the world’s first recognized Tropical Urban Park (TUP)brbrChosa Manglar Suites and Cabins sit inside the world’s first recognized Tropical Urban Park (TUP), a living natural area woven directly into the fabric of Puerto Jiménez. Contemporary Villa in a Four‑Acre Tropical Urban Park, Osa Peninsula

Puerto Jiménez, CR-P, Costa Rica

Villa Pizote sits inside the world’s first recognized Tropical Urban Park, a four‑acre living landscape quietly embedded within the town of Puerto Jiménez. This is a private, contemporary four‑bedroom villa surrounded by ponds, gardens, raised walkways, and the natural movement of wildlife that has lived here long before the park was protected. It is not a resort and not a retreat center—rather, it is a calm ecological space held gently within town, offering privacy, immersion, and a grounded sense of place.brbrThe Setting: A Living Tropical Urban ParkbrbrTrails, small bridges, orchids, heliconias, and sun‑basking iguanas create a soft rhythm around the villa. Wildlife moves freely through the landscape: butterflies drifting through the understory, toucans and scarlet macaws overhead, and sloths resting in the canopy. Coatis and kinkajous pass along the edges, while basilisks, geckos, and green iguanas warm themselves in the sun. After rain, tree frogs and rain frogs emerge, and at dusk, bats and owls begin their quiet work.brbrAt certain times of year, scarlet macaws feed in the almond trees and occasionally drop seeds onto the roof—a small reminder of how close the canopy truly is. And twice each day, hundreds of green parrots sweep through the treetops, their communal calls marking the shift between day and night. Nothing here is staged or fed; wildlife appears on its own terms.brbrA Recognized Urban Biodiversity HotspotbrbrOver 90 bird species have been identified within the park, making it a locally recognized urban birding hotspot. Many guests have remarked—often with genuine surprise—that they saw more wildlife here than during their visit to Corcovado National Park. The park thrives because it is protected, quiet, chemical‑free, and woven into the daily rhythm of town.brbrVilla Layout and Indoor ComfortsbrbrVilla Pizote is a contemporary four‑bedroom home designed for privacy and ease. Large windows and garden‑level views keep you connected to the landscape without sacrificing comfort. The villa includes:brbr• Four private bedroomsbr. 3 1/2 bathroomsbr. Outdoor Garden Showerbr• Multiple indoor/outdoor sitting areasbr• Air conditioningbr• Hot‑water showersbr• A fully equipped private kitchenbr• WiFi throughoutbr• Garden‑level access to trails and pondsbrbrThe design is modern, simple, and intentionally low‑intervention, allowing the surrounding ecology to remain the primary presence.brbrPark Amenities Available to Villa GuestsbrbrGuests of the villa also have access to the park’s shared ecological spaces, including:brbr• A chemical‑free freshwater plunge pool under palmsbr• WiFi zonesbr• Small rest areas tucked among flowering plantsbr• Onsite parkingbr• Light concierge support for orientation to the OsabrbrThe intention is clarity and calm rather than layers of service.brbrLocation: Quiet Ecology Within TownbrbrThe Tropical Urban Park sits within a one‑minute walk of the domestic airport—a small propeller‑aircraft airstrip with no jet engines—and the essentials of town. Directly across the street are a convenience store and a local laundromat. The beach, town center, and banks are a seven‑minute walk, allowing you to move easily between the ecological calm of the park and the practical life of Puerto Jiménez without needing a vehicle.brbrJust beyond the park’s edge, the mangrove channels offer a chance to quietly observe American crocodiles in their natural habitat—an everyday part of the Osa’s coastal ecosystem and a reminder of the region’s wild continuity from forest to sea.brbrStewardship and PurposebrbrYour stay contributes to the ongoing protection of this urban ecological corridor—an evolving model for how tropical biodiversity can coexist with community life. The park is quiet, contemplative, and alive, offering a grounded sense of place within the town itself.brbrBring your cameras and audio recorders.

The houses are built of fallen wood and bamboo from the property. Located high on a hill and very open to the outside, they offer a breathtaking view of the rainforest and direct contact with nature. You will not need a television here, the landscape will be your flat screen when you admire the clouds which flirt with the canopy in the early morning and the macaws or the toucans which play with the vertiginous tops of the trees. Like a Robinson on his island, you will have the impression of living the first morning of the world every day ...brbrAt the entrance to the property is the charming restaurant of the lodge La Cuchara Tica housed in a former gold digger house.brbrLive the great adventure in the heart of the jungle in safety and in a very comfortable setting.brbrACTIVITIESbrbrAmazonita Ecolodge is located in the heart of the jungle, in the Réserve Forestal Golfo Dulce, between the two arms of the Rio Tigre and 200 meters from a little-known entrance to the Corcovado National Park.brbrIt is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature or to practice many activities, guided or not, on site or in the immediate vicinity.brbrThe terrace of the house allows you to observe the flora and fauna of the rainforest from the ground to the canopy.brbrThe house is located just 5 minutes from the new Corcovado National Park trail and 100 meters from the beautiful Finca Bolita trails with waterfalls, natural pools and breathtaking views of the Golfo Dulce. I promise, that feels good… Anyway, this is what all the people who stay with us tell us. However, if you had an emergency, be aware that there is still a pretty good 3G telephone network at the lodge restaurant and a somewhat slow but free wifi spot at the village school.brbrIf you want to cook for yourself, consider shopping in Puerto Jimenez before heading to Dos Brazos.
