We tried to keep as many of the old features as possible and reuse materials such as doors and cupboards wherever we could. brWe wanted to be as sustainable as possible, so installed solar panels and electric heating throughout and the most efficient LED lighting all using 100% green electricity when the solar panels are not providing enough. The house is effectively zero-emission apart from the gas hob. We installed insulation on all external walls and ceilings and under the floor, alongside high-efficiency double-glazing wherever we replaced any glass. We also tried to use natural materials wherever possible, and greener paint. We’ve used inherited, vintage and restored furniture, mostly mid-century modern, apart from new beds, sofa and soft furnishings (for obvious reasons).
