Gulval, like Heamoor, was formerly its own parish but was merged with that of Penzance, Madron, and Ludgvan in 1934, making it essentially a suburb of Penzance. There is also the Coldstreamer Inn, rumoured to be one of the oldest in the country, and a granite drinking fountain from 1910 in the town square.
