ALL- OR 4-WHEEL DRIVE REQUIRED
ADULTS ONLY (MINIMUM AGE 18)
SECLUSION AT ITS FINEST! Escape from everything to "Halcyon" - a beautifully-appointed cabin in true wilderness with all of the amenities overlooking a waterfall. This property includes a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house with cedar interior, 40 acres of private forested land with rocky outcroppings, a spring-fed stream that runs the entire length of the property, culminating in a beautiful waterfall next to the cabin, and shares a border with the Ozark National Forest, providing hours of hiking, exploration, and photo opportunities.
The house is furnished with craftsman cedar tables, bedframes, dressers, and chairs, comfortable lounging furniture, and everything you’ll need in the kitchen, including a dishwasher, washer, and dryer. The bedrooms include one on the main floor (queen bed, overlooks waterfall) and two on the 2nd floor (one queen bed in loft area, one comfortable futon in room overlooking waterfall). The "great room" has a vaulted ceiling, a large wood-burning fireplace, a smart Roku TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, DVD player with 50+ DVDs, and a dining room overlooking the beautiful waterfall. There is also a bonus room on the 2nd floor overlooking the waterfall that can be used as a 4th bedroom with an air or foam mattress (provided) or an office with a spectacular view. You will also have access to all of the comforts of home such as dinnerware, flatware, spices, bedsheets, pillows, towels, blankets, etcetera.
Also included with the house are patio furniture, screened canopy, tent, 2-person anti-gravity chair, portable fire pit, charcoal grill, and various other outdoor amenities.
For an unforgettable experience, follow the Dog Branch west to the border of the Ozark National Forest, where it is possible to hike for days downstream through untouched wilderness.
The charming town of Jasper is only a 20-minute drive and is a hub for canoeing, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and many other outdoor activities.
* An all- or 4-wheel drive vehicle is required to get to the property, as the last mile is gravel (maintained by the county) and gets relatively steep at points, and there is a small stream to cross to get to the cabin. Rain in the forecast makes it an even greater requirement.
* Two vehicles can be parked in the driveway right by the house, and there is more parking across the stream and up the gravel road.
* If more than 4 adults arrive at the house upon check-in or arrive later, we reserve the right to turn guests away with no refund of monies paid.
* This property is not conducive to children; the minimum age to stay is 18 years.
* The waterfall is lowest in the summer months, and we've seen it get down to a trickle during dry times. We can't predict when this will happen, and cannot be held liable for the water level of the stream that feeds the waterfall. We pray for rain during those times!
* The stream next to the cabin is not fishable, but fishing is possible within 20 minutes of the property. Please contact the Buffalo Outdoor Center for more information about fishing in the area or visit their website.
* This property is in Newton County, which is a dry county, so any alcohol needed must be bought and brought in from elsewhere. The nearest liquor store is 40 minutes north in Harrison, Arkansas.
Absolutely no jumping or diving off of the waterfall into the pond
Secluded paradise if you love being away from everything but nature! There was only a trickle of water in the waterfall, but it was still gorgeous and peaceful. So much to look at and do!
The cabin and the waterfall/creek were absolutely beautiful! Our family agreed that is the coolest place we have stayed so far. I would personally like to thank the hosts for allowing us to borrow your property for a few days. We hope to return soon!
Words are inadequate to describe how exceptional this property is. It is truly spectacular! The cabin itself is well cared for and appointed with anything you could possibly ever need and is comfortable for four adults. The beds/baths were outfitted with quality linens/towels/robes. Good water pressure with instant hot water was a pleasant surprise and no one had to wait for water to heat for a shower. The outside can only be believed when seen with your own eyes, photos do not do it justice. It is breathtakingly beautiful. The creek, shelter bluff, waterfalls, moss & trees are stunningly gorgeous. We saw tons of butterfliesand bumblebees flitting about all the native wildflowers. The road leading to the property can initially be intimidating but with a high clearance vehicle, driven at a slowish pace, you'll be fine. I do recommend arriving before dusk at least because it gets inky dark but that only makes the nightsky all the more impressive. This is the kind of place that will make you say - when I win the lottery, I'm buying someplace like this. Truly. We hated leaving this paradise to return to our city lives and vow to return again. Thank you Doug, Amanda & Jennifer for sharing such a wonderful place!
This property is stunning. Communication with the owners and property manager was great. The cabin was very clean. We had beautiful weather and spent most of our time outside. We really enjoyed the waterfall and creek. It’s a special place. We hope to come back next year.
Beautiful & unique property
Pictures don’t do justice. This house is located in a remote area right next to a beautiful waterfall. Great place to relax and enjoy nature. We highly recommend it!
Stunning location! We’ll be back.
Very secluded and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Its beautiful if you love nature which we do. A great place to relax and enjoy God's beauty! This is one of our favorite places in all our travels! Looking forward to our next stay!
Remote cabin with every convenience!
We love it here.
A beautiful cabin atop a stunning waterfall. It could not have been more peaceful, relaxing, and refreshing. Will definitely be staying here again!!
Unbelievably beautiful! Could use better A/C upstairs and in the downstairs bedroom. We would turn the A/C down low at night and use the fans provided to cool down the bedrooms and got by. Well worth it in my opinion. The road to the cabin does require 4 wheel or all wheel drive. There are some steep dirt/graveled inclines. We didn't try the trails on the property. The landscape was too dense and it looked like poison ivy was everywhere. We were also informed that the porch railing was just repaired due to a bear ripping it off. We never saw one but did see deer up close to the house around 7 am one day and wild turkey driving down the road.. The owners do inform you that it is a forest with all of its critters! We highly recommend the Deer Stand Cafe. They are slow to get the food to you but well worth the wait and its very close to the cabin. Lots of public trails around, the Alum Cove Natural Bridge is incredible and the little town of Jasper is a beautiful 20 minute or so drive and offers some restaurants and kayak rentals. Call ahead to see if the water levels are good. If so, most don't rent after 1 pm. Hope this helps.
Waterfall Wilderness is definitely both! We spent hours playing in the waterfall pools - crawdads, tadpoles, waterbugs, all sorts of fun creatures. We hiked down the falls to the rope - definitely do that on a dry day (too slippery otherwise). We hiked up the driveway (1.5 miles of wooded wonderfulness and a few hills). We played games from the stash in the house. We cooked lots of meals (bringing the bench scraper was handy, should have thought of a basting brush; we were being REALLY nerdy and made croissants - beyond delicious in the mountain air!). Nearby hikes were glorious - Alum Cove is so close ya just gotta start there. Then take a look at your favorite app or Arkansas Waterfall book and go have an adventure! We only had one or two mosquito bites the entire 8 night trip - they just aren't in abundance here! We explored nearby towns, went to the Farmer's Market (VERY small, just so you're prepared), talked to lotsa people and had a generally phenomenal time. The property itself just can't be captured in the images you're looking at. If you have a slight inclining of oh wow - I like that, you need to stop looking and make the reservation. If you never thought waterfalls were awesome, kindly go away and let someone else enjoy this heavenly place! :-) We had coffee each morning by the waterfall, and went to bed with the music of the waterfall singing through the open windows. I can not imagine a more beautiful spot to enjoy nature! The kitchen was stocked with all sorts of fun gadgets, and there's even a stash of flour 'n sugar if you need to cook something! We brought baking soda .... don't remember if it was there or not. Biscuits 'n gravy by the waterfall? YES please! I was worried that the living room would feel small for the 4 of us. Nope. Not at all! We piled on the couch and chair and just enjoyed each other. Not being able to access much of the electronic world was a blessing. We shared all sorts of laughs and giggles that would have been missing from a more electronics-friendly place. Waterfall Wilderness allowed us to escape from all things work-related and just enjoy each other. Being able to watch my husband actually unplug from work and relax was priceless. Beds were all comfy, bedding and towels were abundant, all was clean. I *may* have told Amanda that I wasn't actually going to leave. But whoever is staying at Halcyon next may not appreciate that .... so we are now home. Perhaps I'll go back tomorrow ....
The place was great. the road in was rough and slow going, I(I would suggest a 4 wheel drive that sits high off the ground) but after you got there it was wonderful. very secluded. it took us about 12 to 15 min to make it down the last 1.5 mile dirt road to get to the house. No cleared hiking trails so need to be prepared if wanting to venture out very far. I enjoyed sitting in the water just having uninterrupted time with friends. very relaxing , clean with everything we needed for cooking. I would highly recommend this for a quiet secluded vacation. We drove to the Buffalo river and canoed it took us about 45 min to get there. well worth the trip.
My husband & I stayed to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Enjoyed the peacefulness of Nature. It was a true escape. Amanda & Doug emailed a very helpful packet of information with directions & other useful tidbits. Sherill the property manager was also extremely kind & helpful. The property was well equipped with anything you might need.
If you are a nature lover, this is a wonderful place to stay. The property has much to explore and is very relaxing. I would recommend water shoes to more easily navigate all the water areas on the land. Definitely print out the directions with photos and try to arrive while it is light out, as it is easier to navigate by landmarks in some places. The cabin itself is very cozy and has as much cedar as you could possibly hope for! The fireplace is enormous and wood was provided. Essentials such as oil, spices, and paper products were well stocked and additional niceties such as coffee were thoughtfully provided. There were plenty of towels, blankets, and anything else you might hope for in a cabin. Wifi was not always reliable, but there was a surprisingly large and varied selection of DVDs and a PS2 to play them on. The surrounding area had a lot to offer, including the Arkansas Grand Canyon, the Lost Valley nature trail at Buffalo National River, and the Alum Cove Recreation trail. There are also many small towns with cute shops to putter around in. The owners were very communicative and answered all our questions. I had a concern during my stay which the owners addressed very thoughtfully and quickly. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it for both romantic visits or a friends getaway.
This property is absolutely my best pick ever for a totally relaxing, surrounded by nature vacation. Amanda and Doug are excellent with communication. All stress just melts away during time spent here. Truly hope to be able to go back to the beautiful waterfall wilderness. Thank you for sharing your awesome home with us.
Arrived Tuesday p.m. for our 50th wedding anniversary get-a-way. Cabin was wonderful, clean and ready for us. Waterfall and stream were clear, cold and beautiful. That 1st night it rained and continued raining all the next day. The stream and waterfall rose by about a foot. The waterfall grew about twice its normal size and was amazing. We stayed inside and watched TV, played games provided by owner and enjoyed the view below us. By the last two days we were there, the rain stopped and the temperature dropped into the 60's. We built a fire in the fireplace and grilled steak and burgers outside. It was a great way to end our stay at Wilderness Waterfall Retreat. Can't wait to come back next year.
House and property are out of this world!!
The cabin is charming and clean . The property is beautiful with close access to hiking and kayaking. The waterfall and water hole, right next to the cabin, is a great place to relax and explore. Property owners and property manager are thoughtful and quick communicators.
Everything about this cabin and location is wonderful.
We came here to celebrate one of our milestone birthdays and it was absolutely perfect! The waterfall is amazing and it really is right by the house just like the photos... it is breathtaking! The location is at the top of a lovely canyon and we enjoyed hours out on the patio. The house was perfect as well. With COVID ongoing, we brought all our own food and the kitchen had everything we needed. Our bedroom was right above the falls and we slept like babies listening it to it each night. Thank you, Doug and Amanda for sharing this special spot with us!!
This was just the place for our small family for Thanksgiving, hiking, exploring and climbing.
This is the second time we’ve stayed here and it’s such a cool property! If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place. Very comfortable and has everything you need. Would definitely recommend.
Halcyon is better than I could have dreamed. This listing looks so good but it’s 10x more magical in person. Truly a place to leave the world behind and remember things that matter most. Very secluded and must bring what you want because you won’t want to leave. That being said, the house is well stocked with basics and a little more...Great property!
We had an absolutely amazing time deep in the Ozarks while staying at this waterfall paradise. Coming from California we were pleasantly surprised and loved the sounds of the forest at night and the river/waterfall made it all so peaceful. The cabin itself was really nice and it had all the amenities that we needed. Hikes up and down the river during the day and the firepit made for enjoyable evenings. One suggestion would be to have screens put on the windows facing the waterfall so these could be left open at night. All in all, I would recommend this place to everyone.
Halcyon is amazing! We had the best time at this cabin tucked away in the wilderness. We were greeted by beautiful blue and black butterflies when we arrived & I can only describe the property as magical. The photos in the listing do not showcase the beauty of this property that one can really only experience in person. The cabin was well appointed, and more comfortable than any cabin I’ve ever stayed in. The kitchen had everything you’d need to prepare meals. I do recommend you bring groceries with you when you arrive so you can savor every minute you have there! You won’t want to leave! The property is very natural. We wore water shoes in the creek bed, but we will probably bring wet/dry hiking shoes next time. There were several times we had to exit the creek bed and hike up to go around larger waterfalls and things we were unable to scale. Did I say the property was natural? 😂 We saw lots of different insects and things - a huge walking stick, a variety of spiders, crawfish, and other things that added to the experience. I lost cell signal about 10-15 mi from the house, but I didn’t mind. That might have been one of the best parts of the trip, honestly! The WiFi signal was very good right near the house so we would just text or call people when we were inside the house. It was a great place to spend time with and focus on our little family without the everyday disruptions of normal day to day life. I’m already looking at our schedules to see when we can go back. It looks like the owners made updates to only allow visitors 18+, so we might not be able to return until our youngest is old enough. Either way, Halcyon holds a special place in our hearts and we will certainly visit again sooner or later!
This is a gem. We enjoyed it very much! Sherrill was awesome as she answered all our questions. The waterfall was amazing to listen and see throughout our stay. Definitely get groceries beforehand! Wish we could stayed longer.
The cabin was exactly what we were hoping for and more. The very detailed directions were easy to decipher and we only needed them once. Definitely glad we had my 4x4 truck to get to it and out to the highway. No one even remotely nearby which was so nice. The sound of the water fall was lovely. Cabin was stocked with anything we possibly could have needed. Was easily able to access streaming services on the tv while my wife read books much of the weekend. This is a cabin we will definitely be returning to. It’s like a little piece of paradise. Thanks for offering your lovely property up to us and we look forward to returning.
Amazing property. Amazing housekeeping. Not big on the steam shower but this property is one of a kind.
This was the most naturally beautiful property I have been to. The cabin was extremely clean and the owners are very efficient and friendly. The cabin was fully stocked, which is hard to come by. We had a very memorable and comfortable stay!
Evenings sitting on patio with torches really nice & listening to waterfall. Enjoyed our stay. Half bath upstairs would be convenient.
beautifully secluded area- waterfall is relaxing and being on the porch is like a peace of Heaven ...
My husband and I went for a long weekend to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We loved the remoteness. The area is spectacular. Even though we were there mid June, the weather was perfect. Lots of hiking opportunities on the property and around the area. We are already planning a return visit.
Everything was absolutely wonderful! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and property with us. We will definitely be back!!
The wilderness and wild life is amazing. We had a baby deer born right by the cabin while we were there. The waterfall and pools below are beautiful! Amanda and Doug the owners made it easy and very comfortable from beginning to end of our trip. We will be back here for sure!
It was truly a treasure and we will be back.
In spite of how beautiful the photos are of the property, they still didn't do it justice! The cabin is beyond beautiful and the surroundings are breathtaking. The constant flow of the waterfall creates a music that feeds the soul and the mind. I am so very grateful that I stumbled on to the ad and hope to return for many more visits in the future.
What a beautiful place for an escape! Peaceful and serene. Spent hours watching the grey squirrels & chipmunks playing. Three young deer grazed close to the cabin one evening. Cabin had great accommodations. Kitchen was well stocked with necessary items. Appliances were up to date and bed was comfortable. Property manager was helpful and available. Overall, wonderful experience and planning on a return visit.
Pictures do not do justice! Hiking is better than any state park around. Stock up at Sams Club and never leave!
This place is awesome! I’ve been to beautiful areas around the states and this has to be one of the most enchanting areas I’ve ever been to. It’s amazing looking at the placement of this cabin around the beautiful natural water feature. Aside from the magnificence of the location, the cabin itself was spectacular as well. The place was amazing and beautiful. It had everything we needed and more. Cabinets were stocked with everything you could need, Beds were great, WiFi worked well. We brought our own firewood, but there was also plenty provided at the cabin. I can’t think of anything I would’ve brought or done differently. Check in was also a breeze. The property manager was on site when we arrived and showed us around. Very helpful and friendly! My group and I have been getting together and staying at a cabin around the Buffalo river area for the past few years now and this was by far the coolest and most secluded place we’ve been to. We will definitely try to book this again for future trips! Thank you for hosting us Doug and Amanda!
Most hikes usually end at an awesome spot like the one this cabin overlooks. Doesn’t get much better than this on a beautiful setting. Everywhere you go you could hear the waterfall outside and hiking was just outside your door. Great amenities: Keurig coffee maker, roku tv, large bathroom, awesome deck, huge fireplace, etc. Wonderful communication. We needed a space heater for one room during our stay and the housekeeper brought one all the way out to us. The cabin is VERY remote FYI but that’s exactly why we picked it. One person in our group had a 2WD truck and made it fine down the private road but if it were wet or icy it probably would’ve been a different story. We loved this cabin and hope to come back again!!
Such a great relaxing get-a-way!
We wanted a small, intimate wedding but wanted it to be at a special place. We found Halcyon and thought it looked incredible and asked the owners if we could get married there. They were incredibly gracious and approved us getting married on their property with 6 other guests being there during the ceremony. As the wedding date got closer and closer we got more and more nervous about choosing the property as our wedding location. We thought what if it's not as beautiful as the pictures, what if the waterfall wasn't very impressive, etc. However, as soon as we arrived, all those worries instantly disappeared. The property and home are amazingly beautiful. The closest word we could think of would be magical. We have been in several national parks but this property and hiking down stream reveals a beauty that rivals the best parts national parks have to offer. We are so happy we chose here to get married. Additionally, the owners were very sweet and even left us a few gifts congratulating us on our wedding! They communicated with us quickly which is always a plus. The house was spotless. The beds were very comfortable. We were worried about the driveway but our SUV handled the creek and driveway just fine. I literally can't find a negative about this place and we will continue to come back as long as they rent it out.
An Ozark hidden gem. Great folooks and check-in. A unique stay for most any region. We have had a fairly dry stretch, yet the Branch and waterfall had a great flow. We marveled at how this was built and how building material made it in. We had 4 WD and no issue, I suspect any high clearance vehicle could have made it- but In wet or icy conditions I can see it tough for any vehicle. A hike down Dog Branch was a treat. I have been in many ravines and creek beds, but this was certainly some of the most beautiful. Hiking g out have way up the ridge revealed more bluff shelters, overhang caves and bear cracks. There were a few minor negatives. The windows, even the easier to clean could have been much better. A simple coffee maker and basic hair dryer would be good additions. But we had great steaks and chops and a relaxing great stay. BE SAFE.
This was a wonderful cabin in an extremely remote area with hiking right outside the door. It rained the day after we arrived so we were able to see the waterfall in different stages. It was easy to find everything we needed and I was most impressed with the detailed information provided by the owners about everything you could possibly need to know. The whole process was very easy.
We stayed at Halcyon for our 39 year Anniversary and we absolutely fell in love with it! We hiked up and down the river, the road and also at Alum Cove Natural Bridge Recreation Area. We went swimming in the water hole under the beautiful waterfall just outside the house. But most enjoyable was just sitting on the deck absorbing the glorious beauty that surrounded us! It was an Anniversary we will always remember. Thank you Doug and Amanda for the sweet card and bottle of wine... and also for sharing Halcyon with us!
This is a truly amazing piece of property and we cannot wait to revisit in the near future!
Great place to get away from it all. Cute home, beautiful location. Loved the waterfall & walk down the creek. Very comfy beds. Didn’t want to leave.
This place was gorgeous inside and out! It was secluded and tranquil! Will definitely recommend to my friends and family! We will be back also!
Amazing place to get away and relax!
The property was beautiful!!! We hiked daily and explored the land. Spacious for all 6 members. We loved the sounds of the waterfall. Our boys actually never turned on the PlayStation because they would rather be outdoors!! We will definitely return!
We had a great time at Halcyon. It is secluded deep in the woods and my family and I got to disconnect for a few days and enjoy nature all around us.
What a wonderful relaxing location! It is def an adventure to get there but we had beautiful weather so enjoyed it. If you go at dark or during a storm though good luck! We had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and never left after we got groceries. The hiking around the property was fun yet pretty strenuous and somewhat treacherous in spots so be careful and wear appropriate footwear. The swimming hole was perfect and we sat out on the porch every morning enjoying our coffee. Wifi worked well but no cell phone service which we enjoyed. Upstairs gets a little warm so turn the air down well before you head to bed. The only suggestion I would make to make it even better is a hot tub out back! That would take it over the top. But we had a great time!
Perfect setting and great house.
My husband and I stayed with my Cousin and her husband for a nice adult weekend get away. We loved the property so much I didn't want to leave. My favorite part was when we walked the creek from the waterfall for a while until we couldn't get passed the larger drop off. It was so beautiful! I can't wait to go back and stay again. The only thing I would say to the visitors is that I wouldn't drive a vehicle that you don't want scratches on. This property is very far into the wilderness so the roads aren't very wide so the trees scrape along the side of the vehicle as your driving to the house. Fortunately my husband can fix it himself so not a big deal for us. The property manager and owners are very nice and easy to work with!
Just as nice as the pictures shown. The house manager was so accommodating.
The waterfall is the main attraction and it doesn't disappoint.
This is the cutest home with the most peaceful surrounding you could ever imagine! My sister and I had a wonderful vacation and met so many nice people. We will be coming back with our husbands to enjoy this spot again soon!
Beautiful cabin with stunning views.
This VRBO was completely gorgeous and tranquil. A much needed respite from the hubbub of daily cares and concerns. We had only been there for mere moments when we started to discuss possible dates to return for an even longer stay. The highest of recommendations.
We had a wonderful stay at Halcyon! The scenery is amazing and so close to great hiking. The home we had everything we needed for the 4 days we were there (of course we brought our own food). The internet connection worked great and they had lots of games there as well. Everything was comfortable and clean. We would definitely stay here again if we are traveling that way.
Our family loved relaxing in the beautiful nature surrounding this tranquil home. The cabin had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The views from the windows were amazing, and the sound of the water so calming, especially after the rain. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us!
The owners were considerate and thorough. Sherill the property manager was terrific. Pictures do not do this property justice. Excellent base camp for chasing waterfalls.
Great time. Thank you.
This was a beautiful little vacation spot. If I won the lottery, I'd definitely try to buy it. It's very secluded and there's so much to explore around the house and stream. We were lucky and got some rain so the waterfall got bigger and the pool filled up. So awesome! If you want to explore the stream in the fall, bring waterproof shoes. The hosts were very nice. All the basics are in the house and the dishwasher and washer and dryer are very convenient. I would love to come back in the summer and hike further downstream. We were not able to get internet on our phones or tablet. No big deal though. It was a real getaway!
We had a wonderful time, next time we will stay longer. The place was very accommodating and we will return.
Aside from the lack of rain, which made no water in the waterfall or pool (no one can control that), the kitchen drawers were a mess, very little poor quality silverware. Also, very little dish washing liquid left. Shower could have been cleaner. Also, only 4 chairs at the table. This property is a very long way off the main road - it would be better in the spring or fall, and if you plan to mostly stay at the property. If you want to explore the area, you'll do a lot of driving.
Everything was just as described and it was out there a bit. When they say have what you need before you get there, they are not kidding. The few things you may have forgotten they pretty much had there with the exception of alcohol. Internet worked great considering the location. Cabin was clean and well decorated. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
Halcyon checks all the boxes. Indoors attention to detail and comfort. Outdoors . . . well, let’s just say you’ve gotta see to believe. What a great way to finish off the summer!
Cabin is gorgeous, completely buried in nature. Beds were clean and comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed. Waterfall was just a trickle when we arrived (we were told by locals currently in drought conditions) so we were able to hike down the streambed aways. Treacherous but beautiful hike. Then it rained and rained and the waterful was huge and filled up the swimming hole so we got to have that experience as well. Hiked alum cove, stopped at Arkansas Grand Canyon both wonderful. Had a great meal at Ozark Cafe-recommend the mushrooms! Packed in alot of family time while it rained playing board games/cards/dice! If you truley want to be in the wilderness and get a break from the tech this is the place!
We had an amazing time. The property was absolutely gorgeous and the sounds of the waterfall and the forest were enchanting. The home was spotless and had everything we could need. We came to Arkansas to explore but never wanted to leave the house!
What a fantastic place! The water was low, but we all still had an amazing time! The scenery was beautiful and the amenities were beyond accommodating! We were in awe every day. Thank you for sharing, we WILL be back!
The cabin was awesome and very comfortable! The waterfall was only a trickle when we first arrived, but it rained quite a bit while we were there. We did get to see the pool fill up! The only issue we had is regarding the firewood. There was no place to store it to keep it dry during the day. We were unable to have any campfires which was a huge disappointment.
We took the family for the weekend. Although the water wasn’t really running (not surprising for this time of year), the creek bed, rock formations, and getting everyone “disconnected” from the day to day so we could connect was awesome. We had everything we needed at the house. The back patio and deck to the water are amazing. We took a drive into Jasper for lunch at the Ozark Cafe and a stroll around the square on Saturday. The drive has some great views of the valleys and is worth taking your time to just soak it in. The kids had a blast at the cabin catching crawdads and playing with the various caterpillars and bugs they could find. I recommend the nearby Alum Cove hike to the natural bridge during your stay too. It’s a fairly easy walk and the bridge is worth a trip to see. Overall a great weekend at Halcyon!
Half the adventure was finding the place! Once you arrive, you'll never want to leave. Comfortable sheets and beds. Your own private waterfall! Couldn't ask for more. A perfect getaway! I hope to return!
The waterfall was a little dry but still trickling a little. It was very nice with small children. Everything seemed to be just as advertised
I would definitely recommend this place. We enjoyed it so much. The creek was almost dry due to no rain but you can't control mother nature.
My wife and I took the kids to stay somewhere different and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice to stay here. The cabin is very remote and the ideal place to relax and enjoy nature. The communication with the host as well as Doug and Amanda was fantastic, we will definitely come back again!! ~Brandon and Laci W.
My wife, 11yr old son, 15yr old daughter, and I had an amazing time! The home is beautiful and it’s as though you’re the only people left in the world. We hiked downstream and found a couple of great swimming holes and waterfalls. The first one of them was a bit challenging but well worth the effort. We were able to hike around a ways to reach the other which is a little bigger. The lightning bug show right after dark was awesome! My son asked me to make sure I include the fact that there is a PlayStation and a lot of DVDs (Believe me when I say that he stayed so busy outside that there was very little time spent in front of the TV). Sherill was fantastic, she called and checked on us and made it known she was available and willing to help to make our stay great. I cannot think of a single complaint but I can think of one suggestion to Doug & Amanda: I’m not sure where you would put one, but a hammock would be the perfect addition! That’s all I’ve got. Doug & Amanda, Thank you very much for sharing your home w/ my family. Sherill, Thank you as well for your hospitality. We look forward to coming back next year!
Words cannot express how beautiful this place is. We were excited before hand based on the reviews , but this place far exceeded our expectations. The cabin is tucked away in the woods, but the adjacent creek and swimming hole are truly breathtaking. We took our 3 boys ages 7, 9, and 11. It was a perfect family vacation.
This property is unbelievable! We originally planned to use the cabin as a base camp for our Ozark adventures....then we got there. There is no reason to leave this property to find adventure! It’s ALL around you! We had PERFECT weather for our stay, around 90 degree highs and abundant sunshine, and we took full advantage of it. We spent most of our time exploring the creek (as beautiful a place as you’ll find in the world, no exaggeration), splashing around in the beautiful blue water in the swimming hole, and watching turkeys, crawfish, and salamanders. The cabin is PERFECT. Comfortable, beautiful, and well appointed. If the weather is right, you will end up spending most of your time on the back patio and deck overlooking the falls. The bathroom is very nice and was obviously made a priority by the owners. The property owners and caretakers were awesome! Very friendly people who adhere to the golden rule. It was a pleasure to communicate with them and you can feel the “love” that they put into making this amazing place beautiful. I will say that you should definitely heed their advice and travel to the property by 4x4. Achieving the type of seclusion offered by this property means taking the road less traveled....literally. It wasn’t the rubicon, but I wouldn’t want to do it in a Camry. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and one that my family will be repeating!!
We had a great weekend at the Waterfall Wilderness Retreat. Its such an amazing setting....and so relaxing! We had no desire to leave the property at all....We highly recommend this place. Thank you Doug and Amanda for sharing your property with us.
Wow! If you want to escape your busy world just to relax and enjoy nature, this is the place to go. I took my mom, son, and nephew for my son’s 15th birthday. Everyone had an amazing time. We were lucky enough to get snow which made it even more beautiful. We took in groceries for the weekend and never went farther away than Alum Cove. That was a great hike I would highly recommend too. It’s a great getaway for families but definitely be cautious of the indoor staircase for little and older family members. We have shared so many photos and videos of the cabin and waterfall with families and friends that I don’t doubt they will be headed to Arkansas to experience this hidden piece of heaven on earth.
We had such a great time! The cabin was beautiful and the scenery was unbelievable. We can't wait to go again.
Absolutely the most beautiful serene place ever.
We had a wonderful time and it was so beautiful. Fantastic for couples and families with children over age 4. It can be dangerous for young children, but besides that it is breathtaking😍
We knew the cabin and waterfalls etc. would be beautiful, but in person it is absolutely unbelievable. My family and I were in awe when we got there and then pretty much speechless for 30 mins. The cabin has everything you need from board games, and tv to a fire pit and bbq grill. There are wonderful places to hike in NW Arkansas and we hiked many of them, but honestly the river behind the cabin is just as nice a hike as any you can find. I really cannot put into words how awesome this place is. *We highly recommend eating at the Cliff House Inn. It is a great place to eat and view the Arkansas Canyon. Mike and Becky (owners) were wonderful. We ate there twice and stopped on third day to shop in gift shop and really to say goodbye to them. This entire area is a hidden gem.
This was a wonderful weekend getaway! The waterfall was beautiful and relaxing and our hosts did an excellent job of guiding us to the place and providing us with numerous options of hikes, suggestions, etc. Perfect selection for our family and although it was a bit of a challenge to find it really was worth every bit of it!
Amazing property! Highly recommended! Host were very accommodating and the view off the back porch is incredible.
My husband and I rented this cabin this past weekend for our Anniversary getaway! It was everything we had hoped and more. We honestly loved everything about it. The inside of the cabin was cozy and rustic and had everything we needed! Outside of the cabin was absolutely gorgeous. It was so peaceful and quite. We had the best time building a fire, carving pumpkins, taking pictures, and exploring around the waterfall. We went to the town of Jasper and had dinner one night at the Ozark Cafe, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was inviting. We also enjoyed the Overlook Cafe at the Cliffhouse close to Jasper! The owners were absolutely great! The detailed directions to the cabin were awesome ! They made finding the cabin easy. They had someone meet us at the cabin when we got there, I believe his name was Jason, he and his wife were great and great at communicating with us before and after our stay! Loved loved loved this cabin and the memories we made while there. We hope to go back in the near future! Frank & Taylor Pursell 3
This is an amazing property. Simply elegant rustic cabin. The property is beautiful. The stream/creek runs just feet from the house. A waterfall is located just off the back porch with stirs down to it. You can open the windows and just listen to the water run. Very relaxing!! If you like hiking and exploring this is the place for you. Hiking or trail shoes are recommended. We found three waterfalls on property, some are a little more difficult to get down to water holes, but worth the effort. Property is rugged! Perfect for the outdoors or adventurous person. Driveway is long curvy and very inclined. A four wheel drive vehicle is preferred. The ozark mountains were very colorful in mid October. The trees were changing colors which made driving around the small towns very scenic. If you make a trip to Jasper you must stop in the ozark cafe and try the chocolate gravy. I know sounds crazy but worth the try. On a side note take everything you need because there is no running to the corner store to pick up what you forgot. Everything is a drive to go do something off property. This was an anniversary get away, but we plan on returning with the family in the future!
Our family had a great time and we would definitely return in the future!
