Mill House is a fully furnished, four bedroom/one bathroom home that comfortably sleeps eight. Full linen supplied as well as a scrummy continental breakfast. Whether you are travelling through or looking to getaway, Mill House can provide you with tranquility and relaxation. It is in the heart of the Pohokura Valley on farmland surrounded by nature and beautiful scenery. This lovely home was built in the early 1900’s by the McCluggage Family, who operated sawmills in the area. Their endeavors included the construction of a tunnel, in 1924, at the rear of the property to provide access to timber on the Whangamomona Saddle where it still remains today.

It is located approximately 50kms from Stratford and 10km west of Whangamomona. The house is visible from Forgotten World Highway SH 43. Mill House is also pet friendly and comes with a resident cat. If cat's aren't your thing, she is happy to camp outside.

Well first of all there was nothing to dislike. Mill cottage is a very quiet place wonderful for a few days away from town. A true rural environment with everything that you wish for in the way of provisions. The resident cat called kitten is very friendly. We took our dog with us and eventually two of them got on well together! Thanks to the host Amanda this was a wonderful stay.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. This is a beautifully set up property with everything you need for a relaxing break away from it all. Amanda was great to communicate with and very helpful. Highly recommend this as a wonderful place to visit.

We should have stayed longer! The house was extremely well appointed, from the well stocked kitchen and pantry, to the beautifully appointed bedrooms, each worthy of a magazine cover, and as for the newly renovated bathroom, amazing. Host Amanda was the best host you could hope for. Brilliant! Dreturning asap

The Mill House is such a wonderful place to stay - so clean, so welcoming, and every little detail has been thought about to make you comfortable and at home… a Nespresso coffee machine, deep bath with candles provided, fluffy robes, fresh flowers in every room, helpful basics in the fridge. And every room was lovely. We hoped it would be beautiful from the photos, but it exceeded our expectations! We had our dogs with us and they loved running around the big lawn and we enjoyed the pretty garden. We picked this place mainly because we could bring our dogs, but would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to really get away from it all! It’s incredibly peaceful despite being so close to the highway. The host Amanda was also really helpful and easy and prompt to deal with. Much appreciated and we look forward to staying here again!

Mill Hill is truely sereal place to visit. From the rolling hills, the quaint wee river, self-shading sheep that looked adoringly strange with suckling lamb, chucks the provided fresh eggs, the grumpy bull, bird-song and of course Kitten who hosted us with love and respect, What not to love! And Amanda’s hospitality, such a treat. It is our new home away from home, or do we just move in permanently? Now that we have our Whangamōmona republic passports.??

From walking into the Villa, we felt home. A fire was heating the whole house, and everything was just absolutely perfect. All amenities have been provided, fully equipped kitchen with breakfast and basics to cook your own meals. This is really a true gem in the heart of Taranaki and we will surely be back. Thank you, Amanda, for your hospitality and taking so much pride and care to make our stay memorable. Very highly recommended!!

Took a trip up the Forgotten World Highway and had the pleasure of staying at Pohokura for the night. A very comfortable stay, the cottage had everything we needed; comfy beds, big sofa, fire place with plenty of logs, generous bathroom, Wi-Fi and both Marmite and Vegemite available for breakfast. Our host Amanda couldn’t have been more helpful and her advice on the local roads saved us from being stuck in traffic for hours. A thoroughly great stay, our interest in the area has been wetted and we will be back.
