HUNTER'S CABIN, Perfect in every way for your Black Hills getaway, near Custer

Custer, South Dakota, United States

We have added Hunter's Cabin on the same property as Stockade Lake Cabin (VRBO #760445) is located. This makes the perfect addition to our already popular cabin when you are traveling with friends or family who need their own separate space and yet want to be near to share meals and good times. Perfect in every way.....Hunter's cabin is perfect size; large enough for two adults, yet smaller than the big cabin, and minus the tv, thus less costly to rent. Logistically to have more than two guests is difficult, unless a small child. With 480 square feet, it has plenty of room to spread out and enjoy, yet cozy for two. Perfect rustic luxury; new queen bed for a good night's sleep, full bath and kitchen, dining area with large windows to enjoy the views, cozy living area with a freestanding fireplace for those chilly evenings or rainy days which can occur at any time, and yet has electric heat to keep an even temperature of your choice. Perfect outdoor spaces; A covered porch across the front of cabin so you can sit out in all weather and enjoy watching deer and sometimes wild turkeys and even see Stockade Lake across the highway. There is an open patio area on other side off the kitchen with outdoor BBQ and seating area. And we have built a fire pit for your use with firewood, hot dog forks and cooking grate furnished. Hunter's cabin is brand new, but built to look like it has been here for a long time, and is nestled in among old-growth ponderosa pines which have been here likely 100 years or more. Perfect nest to return to after a day of fishing in lake, walking or biking on the bicycle path, also just across the road, or a sightseeing drive through Custer State Park with the entrance about 1500 ft up the road. Perfect headquarters for all your day trips through the hills to enjoy the endless points of interest, and only about a 20 minute drive to Mt. Rushmore. Perfect for those who truly want to bring a pet with them as they travel, as we allow one large dog or two small to medium sized pets. There is a modest pet fee charged at the time of booking.

At The Edge Of Solitude Where Stars Are Bright And The Air Is Fresh

Custer, South Dakota, United States

Fortunately, some of the most beautiful places on earth can be experienced without the cost and responsibility of actually owning them. Red Canyon Ranch in the Black Hills is no exception. Situated high atop the Black Hills historic red-limestone and sandstone canyon, the location of the original route into the Hills for both Native Americans and the white settlers that followed, Red Canyon Ranch is a monument to the cowboy lifestyle, with elements of luxury and style that most cowboys have probably never seen. The cabin is a lodge-pole pine dwelling, in the tradition of an aged lodge. The cabin sits on 110 private acres and offers full views of Red Canyon from three sides, rustic floors and cabinetry with natural dry-stack, slate fireplace in the living room, and master bedroom, and sleeping accommodations for 6 people. An outdoor hot tub that nearly floats above the canyon’s edge makes soaking under the stars a life time memory.brbrOn a clear day, Red Canyon offers extraordinary views to its east, where sheer red walls accentuate the awesome powers that went into its creation, as well as the intricacies of its meandering path. To the south, across the canyon, the dense clustering of centuries-old Ponderosa pine easily explains how the area came to be known as the “Black” Hills . To the west, the canyon continues with steep rock walls, dramatic outcroppings and a long distance view to Wyoming. brbrYou'll Love Our Neighbors: Red Canyon is home to one of the most diverse wildlife populations in the Black Hills. Elk, Antelope, Mule Deer, Eagles, Mountain Lions, Bobcats and Turkeys. brbrExplore The Best Part Of The Black Hills: The southern Black Hills holds something for everyone and every taste. Nestled among the rolling hills are quaint towns offering shopping, dining, and tourist attractions that could easily fill your day with smiles. The area also hosts some of the country’s most beautiful parks and well-known monuments, all within a short and scenic drive from each other.brbrAt the Founder's Cabin, you'll have thousands of acres to explore whether hiking or horseback riding across this historic property.

Private Vacation Home

A/C! BIG Rooms! Lots of Space! Porch and Patio with gas fire table! Value!!

Custer, South Dakota, United States

Welcome to the 1882 Dakota Territory Vacation Home. This home is located in the quaint mountain town of Custer, the Estes Park of South Dakota. Custer is a great mountain town that teems with life. The town offers the friendly smiles of South Dakotans and the ability to walk to dining and entertainment anytime of the day. Best of all, you have direct access to all the sites from this location which is perched just 2 miles from the West Gate of the Park. After a weary day of fun and frolic, retire in this vacation home with its double brick walls and the only thing that will rattle your cage is the snoring from a deep, deep sleep.brbrThis home offers the traveler all the comforts of home surrounded by all the modern conveniences, all while staying in a piece of Custer's storied past. This home was constructed shortly after General Custer's first expedition into the area. Also, with a little investigation one discovers that while the original Custer County Courthouse was being built, a home, not too far away (this one), was also rising from the ground. Folks were amazed back in the day (and even still to this day) how similar the materials were (bricks, bldg hardware, etc) to that of the New Courthouse....after closer inspection the builder of the home wound up in the clink for siphoning off materials from the courthouse for his own gain. His 'act' still stands to this day and can be noted in the earliest photographs of Custer. Come and stay in a true piece of Custer History, The 1882 Dakota Territory Home.brbrA Virtual Tour: brMain Level: Savor a morning cup of coffee on The Hitch – our front porch. Minnie’s Kitchen is equipped with almost every culinary tool you could ever need during your visit, including a dishwasher. There are two grocery stores in town: Custer County Market, two blocks east & across the street, pick up some buffalo meat for grilled burgers on the McKinley Patio, grill and tools are ready...just add the sizzle. For a more formal dinner at home, choose a bottle of wine at Lynn’s Dakota Mart on the eastern edge of downtown. If you’re in the mood for a meal out, enjoy one of Custer's many fine restaurants.brbrFor some Custer-style fun, you’ll find board games and puzzles in the McHugh Game Parlor, as well as arcade games and a juke box – no quarters needed. Parents, there is an OFF switch if you just can’t take it anymore! Guests needing a change of pace can relax in the Dakota Dining/Living Room where a selection of local interest books and prints by local artists can be found. A DVD player and some movies can be found by the living room TV. A Video store is just across the street. The Sundstrom Hideaway is the only bedroom (queen bed) on the main level, and offers easy access to the kitchen, laundry room and main level bathroom. Of course, FREE WiFi throughout!brbrUpper Level: We hope you find the Newberg Nest (king bed – back bedroom upstairs) to be cozy, comfortable and even a little romantic. Relax in the cozy reading chair or watch a little TV before bed. In Rosa’s Room you'll find a queen bed – (upstairs at front of house), and in Julia’s Room (1 single bed & 1 queen bed – (middle upstairs walk through bedroom) with Playstation and several games to choose from. My 17-inch (thick) walls sit on a wide foundation of rock. They are built of two courses of brick with space in between. Every sixth row is placed endwise to tie them firmly. Where my owner got his windows, doors, and hardware and woodwork, I haven’t a guess, but I have always been proud that they match those in the equally new courthouse down the street a block and a half.” brbr“On July 13, 1882, Pat gave me to his wife, Rosa.” Poor Pat, it’s good that he built well. I was pretty shaken to learn that, as a result of a judgment against him by Messers, Plunkett and Lynch of Pennington County, I was to be auctioned off from the courthouse steps at 10 a.m. Sept. 28, 1883 by Sheriff John Code and his deputy, H.N. Ross.” brbr“I was bought by Buell R. Wood for $462.72, who promptly “gave” me to his wife. The Woods made me nervous. They mortgaged me 13 times between 1883 and 1907. The last was to Anna M. Courney, and she got me. Turns out she was married to William Courtney. It took Anna six years to clear my name, even though she made “valuable improvements”. In fact the Woods were still making legal claims until 1919, when Anna and her husband sold me to Julia and Frank Gira who turned me over to George Hitch. You may remember the Hitches…related to the Kidwells, I do. They added on my front porch! It was pretty fancy to be sure, it really dressed me up. I felt like a fine lady.” brbr“Well, George gave me to his wife, Nellie. In 1941, Widow Hitch sold me to to Carl Sundstrom, a single man...ran a newspaper, I’ve heard. Carl, by his attorney-in-fact, J.L. Sundstrom, sold me to L.D. and Signa Pitts (saved having to give it to her) in 1945. Lon (Pitts) built a fancy house on the corner and sold me to Harvey Robertson. Harvey and Minnie took good care of me for many peaceful years. In 1972, they reluctantly entrusted me to some old friends, Winston and Gayle Newberg. I was her birthday present!”brbr“These people! They never let me rest. They kept my innards in an uproar...always changing and improving me.....and they decide I need another improvement. It’s painful but sort of interesting. Keeps me from getting old.”brbrSince 1982, the house was purchased by the Gausman family; Chet and Mary, and Kris and Gretchen Gosch. They have also shaken its bricks and timber with a complete modernization of the interior by Black Hills Design and Construction. It’s present owners are Bob and Sarah Kopp, a young Entrepreneurial family. brbrThe 128 year old Romanesque Revival home is located on Mt. Rushmore Rd., formally known as “upper Custer Avenue”, “Custer City, Dakota Territory”.br- this was written by Gayle Newburg, a former owner of the home. brbrKeywords: Old West Style Vacation, Barbecue Grill, Historic House, Game Room, Comfortable Beds, Family Fun, Central Location, Black Hills, Family Reunions, Extended Family, Outdoors, Beautifully Furnished, Centrally Located in the Beautiful Black Hills, Free WiFi, Walking Distance to Dining & Shopping, Romanesque Revival Home Cabin, Hill City, Vacation Rental, Family Friendly
