Fishmonger, local shops, baker, florist, chemist, banks, second hand shops and cafes, restaurants and takeaway all across the road. Also In Touch, a long established and hugely popular Indian restaurant.brThe Botanic Gardens and Inverleith Park are minutes away. Out door gym and tennis in the park.brEdinburgh is linked by cycle tracks, many on disused railway lines, lovely to cycle on or to walk. There is easy access from the apartment onto the cycle paths. Bike rental is easy to arrange with one of the local companies.brFree parking available four minutes away at the top of the street. The city tours open top bus stops on the street and there is a bus every 10 minutes to the center of town.brbrGetting aroundbrbrThe no 23/27 and 8 bus stops right opposite the flat. Electronic displays at the bus stops tell you when the next bus is due. They provide a very regular service to the city centre and the Royal Mile every 10 mins or so. It takes 8 minutes to get into the centre by bus or 20 min to walk. There is free curb side parking at the top of the street. The city open top bus tour stops on the street. brIf at all possible I would advise against driving in the city, parking is really expensive and difficult, most locals use the really good bus service.brbrOther things to notebrThe wood burner in the living room is now decorative and non functional. For those with UK VAT numbers who can reclaim it should now be detailed on the invoice*brbrWe've spent the last 2 years restoring this fabulous space and turning it into our family home.brbrOriginally purpose built in the 1850's as a gymnasium, it has also been used as a Mason's dance practice area, an artist's studio, and also a Festival venue. brbrIt is amazingly located in the centre of Edinburgh's First New Town, less than 1 min walk from the junction of George St and Frederick St. Look on a map and you'll see how central this is!brbrYou are surrounded by all the bars, restaurants, pubs, venues, transport links and history of the famous New Town, yet on a quiet bar free one-way street where you won't hear much.brbrUnusually there are also 2 private parking spaces with the house.brbrThe showstopper in the house is the top floor room, which is the original gymnasium with period vaulted ceiling and 'lantern' - a glass room bringing extra light into the space. The room is around 10m x 10m in size, and we've turned it into our living and entertaining space. It has a large concrete kitchen island, 2x Gaggenau ovens, an induction cook top, a Quooker hot water tap, and 4 Sonos speakers with sub. brbrOn the ground and lower floors there are 6 bedrooms. One has a triple sleeper bed - this can be used either as a double bed or bunks, another can be set up as either a super king or two singles, a further 2 have king size beds, a further room has a standard single bunk bed (sleeps 2) and the Master room has an enormous Conran Shop steel super king 4 poster bed.brbrThere are 2 fully equipped bathrooms - each has a rainfall shower and a separate bathtub, and twin sinks. There is a further toilet with a sink.brbrThis is our beautiful family home and we look forward to welcoming you and your guests to stay in it!
