The building was built by Arnold Medbery and it replaced Medbery’s earlier, wood framed hotel (built 1832) that burned. This building was also a stagecoach stop and was believed to have been on the Underground Railroad. The building housed retail businesses on the main level, sleeping rooms on the second and third floors, and a ballroom on the top floor. brbrThe wood floors are from trees as far back as the 1600`s and the original plaster walls have some cracks from nearly 170 years that add charm and character to the rooms. There was no electricity or cars and Ohio was just over 40 years old when this building was populated by early European settlers moving west. Millard Fillmore was president and the American civil war was still years away.
