This downtown efficiency apartment is across the street from the Taos Plaza. It is on the Garden Street of Taos on a little one block street with shops, restaurants and four of my Vacation Rental apartments.brThe Town Parking Lot across the street after years of free parking has begun to charge an hourly parking fee. I now suggest guests use Church Parking Lot on the corner for only $5 per day. Town Lot across the street is always free after 6 and on Sunday. brThe kitchen area includes a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker and toaster as well as dishes and glassware for two. brThe Reading Nook has a comfortable chair, reading light and a variety of Vacation Books.brThe dining area is an antique table with two chairs complete with placemats and cloth napkins.brOpaque blinds offer privacy yet allow our wonderful Taos light to come in.brThe main room has a ceiling fan, operable transom window and a dutch door for summer use. In winter months there is a gas log stove and even a heated electric mattress pad. Please operate gas log stove ONLY with wall thermostat. We are offering our beautiful, two-story, adobe casita within an easy walk to the Taos Plaza, restaurants and galleries, but only to a few select couples or small groups per year. brbrDating back to the 1700's and sitting on land once farmed by the Tiwa tribe of the Pueblo Native Americans, our casita is an authentic example of early adobe structures. Our main structure dates back to 1910 as part of a family compound. The property then became a Bed and Breakfast in the 1980's named Casa Encantada, and then wonderfully updated in 2005 into several individual residences, retaining the Casa Encantada name.br Our special adobe home was originally two adjacent Casitas which we purchased separately and then combined to provide approximately 2,000 square feet of fabulous interior space and two fully- stocked kitchens. brbrConsisting of two master-suite bedrooms with private baths, a front sunroom with a fold out sofa and 1/2 bath. Enjoy our two fireplaces, one wood burning and one gas. The gas one can be used year round, the wood burning one is in the downstairs bedroom. You'll definitely find extreme detail at every turn. Enjoy our private, spacious outdoor area with plenty of room to appreciate the high desert climate. Soak in our large outdoor hot tub and watch the stars at night. Or have dinner under our beautiful portal that makes for great outdoor dining in the spring, summer and fall. Light the oil lamps in our fire pit and enjoy a glass of wine before dinner. brbrIf you want a true Taos experience with privacy and serenity, this is the place. Our home and possessions are important to us, so we are particular. Although we would prefer parties that would not include young children (under 10), each offer would be considered on a case by case basis. We love children, we just need to have further discussion if younger than 10. Sorry, although we love them, NO pets are ever allowed. No smoking on premises. No parties or gatherings are allowed in our home, and only approved guests may enjoy it. NO daytime visitors other than those approved on the contract. brbrCasa Nueva Vida ESPECIALLY welcomes couples and offers consideration when the party is just two people depending on availability and we consider parties up to 4 adults on a case by case basis.brbrNOTE: Our renters normally stay at least 31 days or longer and you will see special discounts for long term rental. If you need a lower priced long term rental (31 days or more) or if you have friends/family that are coming at the same time, inquire about the casita next to ours owned by our daughter and her husband. Their studio is listed on VRBO as Casa Encantada #3. #636014 and is right next door, so easy back and forth access. brbrfor more images and information........Visit our website at nuevavidataos.com and find out more about our wonderful adobe. Rock Art Retreat—A gorgeous estate full of petroglyphs and colorful artwork.

Taos, New Mexico, United States

This sprawling adobe home is surrounded by hundreds of acres of undeveloped land. It was built in the early 1800s by Spanish settlers and over time has been stunningly remodeled. Quixote’s Canyon is named as an homage to its Spanish history and the metal sculpture of famed Spanish literary character, Don brQuixote, (yes, the windmill fighting guy) who welcomes you at the entrance.brbrEnter through the time-weathered front gate up to the expansive flagstone patio complete with outdoor kiva fireplace. Turn around and take it all in. Taos lies in the distance surrounded by jaw-dropping mountain views. Pass through the hand-carved wooden front doors with hand-hammered wrought iron hardware to enter a different world.brbrThe Living Room (aka Frida’s Room)brbrTurquoise velvet swivel chairs and leather couches provide comfortable seating in the living room overlooking the Sangre de Cristo range. Snuggle in with a book on the long chaise by the entry or take your perch on the saffron leather chair with copper lamp and embroidered ottoman. Radiant-heat rises through wide-plank pine wood flooring and the Taos sun streams through the window. Please take extra care of grandma’s wood tables and the needlework Frida pillows.brbrThe Dining RoombrbrA large wooden dining table with hand-carved chairs provides seating for six. The walls are warmed by a Navajo rug, a copper tray and photos: kachina dolls from our collection and Anasazi petroglyphs from the rock formation outside.brbrThe KitchenbrbrMore petroglyph images in the kitchen! Panels on the cabinet doors are studded with Taos blue stones and painted with petroglyphs in honor of the drawings on the rock escarpment outside. Brand-new stainless steel appliances and stone countertops make cooking in this well-appointed recently renovated kitchen really fun. Whip up some Keurig coffee in the coffee niche then take a seat at the oak kitchen table that seats four. The large blue-toned painting on the wall is done by a well-known Taos artist who lived in this house for decades, one of just a few owners of this historically significant property.brbrThe Sitting RoombrbrThrough the hand-carved doors toward the master suite, find an intimate sitting room with a leather couch and chair as well as a SMART TV and console desk overlooking the front patio. This room is an ideal private workspace for everything from trainings and web conferences to work on your novel or sketch diary.brbrKing Bedroom SuitebrbrA Cal-King bed appointed with sumptuous sheets and duvet comforter nestles into a cave-like space framed by low-hanging ‘vigas’ logs. Gilded bird lamps rest on the bedside tables. The leather armchair is an elegant place to relax.brbrDeep inside the king suite bathroom, you’ll find a cave-like shower stall with granite bench, hand-held shower and luxurious towels, as well as a TOTO washlet bidet.brbrThe Guest Room SuitebrbrOverlooking the portale gardens, the guest room is spacious and sunny. The king-size bed can be converted into two XL twin beds if requested at booking. The glass bedside lamps with pressed flower lampshades belonged to grandma. The jewel-tone painting on the wall is by the same Taos artist and former homeowner. Find a bench and a luggage rack in the closet.brbrThe guest bath boasts one of the most luxurious bathtubs in all of Taos. This deep tub will delight even the most ski-or-hiking sore muscles. Whimsical purple cabinets and star-themed tiles in the tub surround provide an artistic Taos experience in this stunning just-renovated bathroombrbrThe DenbrbrClimb the red stone stairs passing the door to the private portale garden. At the top, you’ll find the media den with red Navajo rugs, game table, books and a large SMART TV. The couch is a pull-out queen bed. On this upper level there’s a third full bath with a traditional tin mirror and a shower stall.brbrThe Portale Garden and Hot TubbrbrThrough the door on the stairwell landing, head outside to the twinkling portale porch where you’ll find a couch, a butcher block table and an outdoor grill. Follow the flagstone path to the corner of the garden for a dip in the hot tub. For everyone’s safety, please shower before jumping in.brbrGuest accessbrbrGuests will have access to the entire house with the exception of an upstairs owner's room and a couple of cabinets in the kitchen.brbrOther things to notebrbrQuixote's Canyon is a world unto itself and not searchable on GPS. Directions will be provided at check-in.
