The house, patio and hot tub all have stunning views. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. The house sleeps five, depending on family/friends preferences. Sleeping features are a bedroom with a massive king sleigh bed and another room with two queens. The sofa pulls out to a queen in the living room as well. The house is built with traditional viga (beam) ceilings and tile floors, and sports furniture built for comfort. There is original Southwestern art work on the walls and a cozy TV nook with recliners off the living room. The banquet-style dining room table is great for entertaining but the home encourages intimate get-aways as well. Keep us in mind and we hope to see you soon. Water is harvested from rainfall, and used multiple times after domestic use including watering plants in the beautiful integrated greenhouse. The ample New Mexico sun even creates the heat for hot water. The house was constructed with mostly recycled and natural materials, including tires and recycled glass. Everything was lovingly handcrafted and artistic touches abound.brbrAn Earthship is not for everyone. You'll find all the comforts of a modern home, but you need to be conservative in your use of water and electricity. It's much easier to be mindful of resource use and in tune with nature with the expansive views -- you'll see sunrises, sunsets, starry skies, and can watch weather move across the mesa with long range views to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.brbrThe Internet access is quite good most of the time, but since you are off-grid sometimes the WiFi can slow down and it can be frustrating. We find the Wifi suitable for streaming television and video calls most of the time, but not always so please be advised. A separate sitting room with fireplace is perfect for relaxing and reading. The house is located 20 minutes from Taos Ski Valley and 20 minutes from the Town of Taos. The village of Arroyo Seco has cafes, galleries, shops and an organic food market, and is just 7 minutes away. Great hiking trails are from 10 to fifteen minutes away and Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument can be seen from the west portal. The location is great for day trips to Santa Fe (1 and 1/2 hours), Red River (45 minutes), Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (15 minutes), Great Sand Dunes National Monument (2 hours), Angel Fire (one hour), Bandelier National Monument (1 and 1/2 hours) and of course the Taos Ski Valley and Taos. You will find Casa Contenta located on the highest bluff in an area just 3/10 of a mile north of the old blinking light (junction of Hwys 522 & 150, which is the road to the Taos Ski Valley.) brbrThe home’s layout offers a spacious interior while providing unique separation for two couples/families. All bedrooms are located on the ground floor but the two main bedrooms are located on the opposite ends. The remaining ground floor consists of yet another bedroom offering three twin beds and a window banquette. Yet, this floor offers even more. When you walk in the front door, there is a queen bedroom to your left. If you were to go straight, there is a staircase leading upstairs to the kitchen, dining, living, 3/4 bath and the upstairs deck. From the front door if you were to go straight, you would find a full bath. If you took your next right, you would see the map room, with the banquette seating area and the laundry room across from the map room. Continuing on, you will go down two steps into the twin bedroom which contains two twin beds and a smaller-than-a-twin bed. Walking across that room you will encounter a door which enters right into the master bedroom which has its own full bathroom attached to it. In order to get out of the master bedroom, you must either walk through the twin bedroom or you can use the door exterior door found in the master bedroom and use the outside stairs to access the upper floor. It is a little unusual and works for some and not others, but we like to describe it for you so there are no surprises.brbrbr
