This casita is located on a quiet one block dead end street just three blocks from the Plaza. It has a living / dining room combination. The dining table seats four and looks out at the rear courtyard garden. The living room area has a loveseat sofa sleeper with all bedding available. Good gel foam mattress. There is a wood burning kiva fireplace in the corner of the living room. Fragrant cedar firewood is provided for guests. Screened operable windows throughout the casita provide nice ventilation in summer. Each of the three exterior doors are screened and open to private walled courtyard. The living room and bedroom have ceiling fans. Enjoy a mountain view from the front living room window and a garden view from the dining area. The well equipped kitchen has everything you might need for meals at home. The tiled counter tops are just plain fun! This casita has total privacy since it is surrounded by a tall stucco wall. The courtyard is landscaped with in ground plants and also big ceramic pots with seasonal color. Large trees shade this area nicely in the summer and the shade structure provides long season outdoor living. The patio has table and chairs and a BBQ. There is also a cushioned bench under an elm tree for relaxing. A large number of my whimsical recycled garden art pieces are displayed throughout the courtyard. As with all my properties Casa Verde is dog friendly and when the front gate is closed your dog has a nice outdoor space. I provide dog sheets for sofa and bed as well as mutt mitts for clean up. I do charge $10 per dog per night to add when booking. If you choose to stay more than 30 nights I offer a generous 50% discount and $100 per stay per pet fee. brCasa Verde is part of a compound. Each of the three units may be rented separately of course or the entire compound may be rented and will sleep up to twelve guests. brThere is off street parking for each unit. On the property is also a laundry room for guest use.brThis downtown compound was featured on the 2017 Taos Home & Garden Tour. On a Saturday in August 500 tour goers had a chance to check out my style. A fun day indeed!brIf Casa Verde is booked for your dates please look at Casa Azul on the same property Vrbo 797997.br

An Enchanting Taos Hideaway in the Carson National Forest

Taos, New Mexico, United States

This is the most soul-healing, peaceful, relaxing, put-a-smile-back-on-your-face destination imaginable!brbrA truly great structure, one that stands the tests of time, never disregards its environment. A serious architect takes that into account. He knows that if he wants presence, he must consult with nature. He must be captivated by the light. Always the light. Always...br-From the 2006 movie, The Lake HousebrbrImpossibly Cool Digs... brOne of the very first “earth ship” homes ever built in New Mexico. What is an earth ship In a nutshell, an earth ship is a green, eco-friendly, energy efficient home. Essentially, half of the house is “bermed” into the earth in order to retain heat in the winter and cool in the summer. The entire front of the earth ship is a continuous wall of windows, so the wonderful ambient light (day and night) and our magnificent mountain scenery fills the entire home. In other words, it is as though the outside is actually part of the inside. There are no artificial city lights to pollute the night sky, so the stars are downright breathtaking even inside the house!brbrOur mountain retreat is undoubtedly one of the most unique, whimsical, eclectic, magical homes you will ever run across. The inside of our earth ship looks as though it was taken right out of the pages of Tolkien’s, “The Hobbit.” One of the many outstanding features of our house are its three, separate, Bilbo Baggins-style “bed caves.” These amazing bedrooms are cozy, beautifully sculpted, plastered, carpeted works of art. brbrKids especially love this house! When they first enter the place, they run around wildly laughing and screaming with delight...brbrWhat really makes this funky little Hobbit house so special is its extremely private physical location and the magical forest that surrounds it. Our Earth Ship is nestled at the end of a MAGNIFICENT, PRIVATE, fir and aspen-lined meadow at an 8,200 foot elevation. Our 'back yard' is hundreds of thousands of acres of pristine National Forest! The only neighbors in view of the home are elk, deer, wild turkey and a million hummingbirds!!!brbrThere is a private hiking/mountain bike/horseback/snow shoe trail right out of the back yard that accesses hundreds of miles of abandoned logging roads. The amazing part is that there’s not a soul back there aside from the very-rare hiker or mountain biker.brbrThe bird watching here is simply incredible. Because we are in a transitional zone between high desert and sub-alpine ecosystems, we have an unparalleled mix of bird species. The combination of grassy meadow, Gambel oak, pine/fir and aspen ecosystems attract myriad species. From May through September, we have hundreds of hummingbirds (4 different species) visiting our twenty-some-odd feeders at any one time. There are so many hummingbirds on the feeders in the morning and evening that they will literally land on your fingers! The chicadees and two species of nuthatch are also trained to eat out of your hand(September-April)!brbrFrom late June through early September, the wild flowers are exceptional. There are literally hundreds of different species blooming throughout the summer months. Wild edible/medicinal plants are also abundant.brbrWildlife is extremely plentiful. Quite often, you’ll see elk, mule deer, wild turkey, grouse, bobcat, fox and coyotes right in the yard!brbrWe have several hundred yards of seasonal creek that runs through the gated, fifteen-acre property.brbrOur earth ship is an easy 12-minute ride into downtown Taos (and about 20-minutes to Angel Fire, 50-minutes to Taos Ski Valley and 50-minutes to Red River), yet you’ll feel like you’re a million miles from the nearest settlement.brbrThis is the perfect place for peace, quiet and nature seeking families, artists, musicians, writers, hikers, experienced mountain bikers (you can access the South Boundary trail from our private trail into the Forest), bird lovers, nature photographers, snow shoe and cross country ski buffs or just anyone looking for an extremely-private location in Taos to completely escape from reality!brbrThree bedrooms (queen-sized beds in each bedroom) with an additional futon in the loft/television area.brbrNOT YOUR AVERAGE VACATION RENTAL -- THIS IS TRULY AN ADVENTURE!!!!brbr*The open air arrangement of the three separate bedrooms does not allow a great deal of privacy, so you’ll need to be comfortable with the folks you’re staying with. All the bedrooms are up a small flight of stairs, so this is not an ideal rental for handicapped folks.brbr** Excluding the bathroom, this home is heated in the winter exclusively by passive solar and wood stoves (ample firewood and kindling are supplied at no extra charge). The house is extremely comfortable in the daytime, but really cools down at night in the winter after the fires go out (November through March). It’s quite cool in the middle of the night and especially in the morning before the wood stoves get the temperature back up. If you are unable or unwilling to use the wood stoves or are uncomfortable waking up in cool temperatures, this is not an ideal winter rental for you -- you're better off coming between May and October!!!brbr***Although we keep the driveway plowed at all times, renters must have all-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicles from November through March. brbr****Because of the layout, stairs and wood stoves this is not an ideal booking for people with toddlers, elderly or disabled folks in their party.brbrAlso, check out our Santa Fe VRBO rental #74169. We book combination Santa Fe/Taos rentals if you're interested!brbrWe offer discounts for weekly and monthly bookings!brbrKeywords: House

Red Cat House Vacation Apartment

Taos, New Mexico, United States

Red Cat House is a one of a kind vacation rental apartment in Taos. When inquiring about vacation accommodations in town, an often asked question is 'Are you walking distance from the Plaza ' Red Cat House is unique in that it across the street from the Historic Taos Plaza. In fact there are Plaza, town and mountain views from every window. This apartment offers convenience combined with a peaceful and quiet, spacious yet cozy, home away from home for one or two guests.brbrRed Cat House is located on Dona Luz Lane, 'The Garden Street of Taos' (landscaped by me, a professional landscaper) This street boasts a wonderful variety of shops and restaurants. It was once the 'Red Light District' in town and La Dona Luz was a madame. br Entry is down a little brick pathway surrounded by blooming plants with original outdoor art on all walls and an outdoor seating area. Upstairs is Red Cat House-a wonderful intimate world of its own. You will discover antiques, color and light, original art and whimsical touches in your own private little world. brThe sunny eat in kitchen is well equipped for morning coffee, a gourmet breakfast or a romantic dinner for two.brThe living room is a perfect spot for lounging with a comfortable couch, lamps, a flat screen TV, DVD's, books and a selection of music for just that right mood. Enjoy dinner at an 18th century walnut tilt top table for two looking out over the Plaza with a view of Taos Mountain in the distance. If you need to do a little work (not too much I hope), there is high speed internet available and a desk where you can write about your wonderful Taos adventures or even compose a spontaneous love poem if so inclined. Many of my guests enjoy my record player and collection of albums.brThe sunlight bathroom has a large shower, lots of towels, robes for two and some fun touches to discover.brThe bedroom is so very special with an antique queen size, pillow top, four post teak canopy bed, down comforter, fine linens and lots of pillows. I even have an electric mattress pad for chilly Taos nights. So nice to climb into a warm bed.Hang your clothes in a tall mirrored English oak armoire. The bedroom is cozy with a gas log stove. The multi paned windows are screened to allow you to enjoy our wonderful mountain air that just invites snuggling-so cozy and romantic.brSummer visitors will enjoy window air conditioners in bedroom, kitchen and living room. There are also ceiling fans in living room and bedroom.brIf you can tear yourselves away from the comforts of Red Cat House, all of Taos is just outside your door.
