Downtown historic buildings have always fascinated me and I love to restore them back to their original beauty. We torn this house down to the studs and renovated everything. This home is close to the canal and about a 10 min easy walk to downtown. Close enough to enjoy all Frederick has to offer and tucked away on a quiet street. brYou will feel right at home here. The mattresses are amazing! You’ll have your best night sleep! It has been set up as if we were going to live there. It has everything you would need to cook a great meal if you wanted to stay home. You can walk pretty much anywhere downtown. If you need to you can call an Uber anytime. There is also a MARC train in town if you want to go into DC without the hassle of driving. The back room has a private balcony overlooking the patio which is nice (see pics). brbrListen to any of the Alive at Five events right off the balcony, or in the backyard. brbrOne of my favorite features is the backyard area which is fully fenced and has a large patio. This is a great area to sit and relax and enjoy Downtown Living. This River House is located on the Monocacy River with a beautiful open view of the river and the Antietam National Battlefield on the opposite shore. Downtown Frederick, Maryland is just 3 miles away and offers a fun variety of restaurants, pubs, breweries, shopping and cultural activities. Your getaway could be taking in the scenic view, drifting down the river or heading into downtown Frederick for some lively entertainment. Bring your fishing rods! The Monocacy boasts large and small mouth Bass, carp, and catfish. A brick charcoal barbecue grill is offered for outdoor grilling.brbrThere are 3 units available in the River House, with this spacious and private studio occupying the entire water view side of the 1st floor. The studio is designed with several large windows and 2 sliding glass doors to provide wonderful views of the river. Hickory hardwood floors shine throughout with cedar closets. This new construction includes a kitchenette with microwave oven, refrigerator and coffee maker. Entertain, visit, or enjoy some quiet reading time in the sitting area with a full-size couch and 2 captain’s chairs. The studio provides a large full bath with tub/shower and direct access to the private front deck of the building. With a queen size bed and a dining booth that converts to a double bed, the studio can sleep a total of 4 persons. The dining booth/bed convertible is 72 by 48 when it's converted to a bed, so it may not be suitable for tall adults. There is also free access to a full-size washer and dryer. brPets are welcome at an additional fee but must be crated when unattended.brbrWe have had some issues with noise from the Villa (2nd floor) making it hard for guests in the two lower units to sleep. So, there is an 11 pm excessive noise curfew for the Villa when either of the lower units is occupied. Also, we recently installed several hundred cubic ft. of cellulose sound dampening insulation in the ceiling of this unit to re-mediate the issue.brbrPets under about 50 lbs are welcomed at an additional fee of $40 per pet, per stay, but must be crated when unattended. I can make exceptions to the fee structure for small dogs or multiple pets.brbrIn support of the global effort to conserve energy resources utilizing reasonable practices, we have installed Ecobee “smart” thermostats in all of our listings that the guests can also control. The thermostats are preset with a maximum heating setting of 72 degrees and a minimum cooling setting of 72 degrees.

Welcome to the Caretakers Room on the 2nd floor of the historic Manor House at Gayfield! The Caretakers Room is private, situated with a queen size bed, and affords views in two directions of the farm. With modern heating and air conditioning, a rustic 1960's tub and spa style vanity, and a kitchenette with appliances the room is comfortable and accommodating. The Caretakers room also has a large closet and lots of storage in the drawers in the bed!brbrThe kitchenette is set up with a 2 burner cooktop, and a basic supply of pots, pans and cooking utinsils.brbrUpon entering the front door of the Manor House you'll find a large foyer. All guests have shared access to the Common Area, Greenhouse, and Common Area full Kitchen (with range/oven) on the 1st floor as shown in the pictures. Please do not disturb the fish in the greenhouse, and remember the area is shared so please clean up after use. brbrThere are multiple Suites in the home, but each is separate and secure. brbrThere is an 850 yard long path down to the large Monocacy River which borders the East edge of the farm. There is about 1500 ft of river frontage, but it's not really possible to manicure the river bank so you'll need to work your way down to the water as if you were in the wild if you'd like to fish or launch a kayak.brbrCurrently several animals from D&D's Petting Zoo and Pony Rides are boarded at the farm and include ponies, a zebra, a miniature donkey, goats and other such critters. The animals are very friendly!brbrIn support of the global effort to conserve energy resources utilizing reasonable practices, we use a maximum heating setting of 71 degrees and a minimum cooling setting of 72 degrees.brbrThe Manor House at Gayfield Estate was originally built in 1850 by the Jarboe family, and currently sits upon 144 acres of farmland in Central Frederick County. The farm has had three owners, currently owned by the Bartlett family and before them the Morans and the Jarboes. Thomas Jarboe served as a County Commissioner in the 1800's and William Bill Moran was a world-famous knifesmith.brbrThe Jarboe family commissioned a major addition in 1895 when the Northwest turret, 4 rooms on the Southeast side, and the stone water tower were added. So the Jarboe family had 'running' water in the 1800's, which was rare at the time.brbrAlthough the house has been modified over the last nearly 200 years , all of the wood floors throughout the house date from 1850 and in some rooms 1895, and nearly all of the woodwork dates to the same periods.
