Otzia counts on just 80 permanent residents and it has an enclosed picturesque brbay. It has three beachfront restaurants that serve local cuisine and of course fresh fish. Anna is a value for money brtaverna well recommended with local freshly made cuisine at competitive prices. The beach of Otzias is chosen by many families with brchildren, because its waters are shallow and safe.Another good feature about this village is its great walking paths, ideal for brstrolling around. Among its places of interest we can point out the many small churches that can be easily reached.brbr2 miles from Otzias lies Vourkari, a small coastal village with a port/marina for yachts where you can find the island's popularbrfish restaurants, small boutiques, a few nice cafes for wonderful breakfasts with amazing sweets, or cocktails at night time.brbrJust 10 km from Otzias lies Ioulida, a charming mountainside village with nice squares, several tavernas, small shops, brbeautiful houses and endless alleys. Its key feature is the stunning sea view. It also features an archaeological museum.brThe heart of Ioulida also known as Chora, is the square with the grand city hall and some of the best tavernas in the village. brThe taverna right in front of the city hall has tables set around the entire square, the food and service is excellent.brbrbrAt the southeast end of the island, at Poles bay, lay the remains of the ancient, deserted city of Karthaia. Karthaia was one of the four brcities of the island that formed a federation called Tetrapolis (along with Ioulis, Koressia and Poiessa). There are two ways to reach thisbrmagnificent beach - archaeological site. The first way is to go on foot, if you are a fan of hiking. There are four different paths brthat can lead you to Karthaia depending on how long you want to walk. I suggest the shortest that starts at Stavroudaki which is 17kms braway from Ioulis. The distance from Stavroudaki to Karthaia is 2.3kms which is not that far. The starting points to the other three paths brare Ag.Symeon, Kato Meria and Chavouna respectively. You definitely need the proper shoes, some light food and water.brbrApart from hiking, one can visit Karthaia by boat, which is also an appealing idea. Take a dive into the ancient sunken port, marvel at the viewbrfrom the beach or from your boat, then take a short walk up to the remains of the ancient city of Karthaia.brbrKea is close to being unknown, a secret gem in the cycladic Islands. Kea is an amazing island – if you are thebrtarget group that is. If you are dreaming of nice sandy beaches with sun chairs and parasols, bars that serve umbrella drinks brand discos playing the latest from the dance charts, there is nothing for you on Kea. But if you appreciate genuine islands, brhikes along ancient donkey paths, in beautiful valleys and if you prefer a really relaxing holiday, Kea is the perfect place. Kea also has 45brbeaches most of them accessible only by boat, 2 organized beaches with with sea sports and scuba diving. So come and discover Kea and have the holiday of a lifetime.

Evanne - Six Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 12

Kea, Kea, Greece

A contemporary, multi-dimensional hideaway overlooking the bay and beach of cosmopolitan Vourkari.brbrWith its mix of rugged good looks and sleek contemporary design, Evanne rises in a super-panoramic position on the northwest coast of Kea. An infinity pool and a Jacuzzi offer aquatic pleasures and relaxing moments for those who prefer lazy, luxurious living, while the sandy beach and seafront bars and tavernas of Vourkari are within easy strolling distance for those who wish to enjoy the island's summery buzz. brbrInside: accommodation at Evanne is spread over three separate levels, each one linked by external staircases and terraces.brbrIn classic contemporary Kea style, geometric walls in local grey-and-tan stone alternate with sections of smooth concrete. Together they frame large picture windows and wide sliding glass doors that make the most of the views and allow for seamless indoor-outdoor living. A palette of muted natural colours - greys, tans, blacks and whites - provides an ordered, minimalistic backdrop for quality fittings, furnishings and fixtures, and the ambience throughout is one of understated luxury, calm and poise.brbrAccommodation on the highest of Evanne's three levels is mostly given over to a spacious suite with double bed, a sitting area, a kitchen and an en-suite shower room. A triptych of windows looks out to Vourkari Bay and the Aegean Sea, and a door opens out onto the pool terrace.brbrNext door to this suite is the pool bar, a changing room and a WC. brbrThe middle level at Evanne is the hub of the home. A door opens in from a sea-view Jacuzzi terrace to a hallway, off which one may access three bedrooms: brbr• a sea-view double with a wall of sliding glass doors opening out on to the terrace, and an en-suite shower roombr• two more doubles, each with an en-suite shower room and sliding glass doors opening onto a secluded terracebrbrBack in the hallway, a few steps lead down into a bright, generously sized open-concept space divided into three sections. To the right is the well-equipped contemporary kitchen, in the centre is a dining table, and to the left is a sitting area, furnished with a designer L-shaped sofa and armchair. Wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass windows bring in the fabulous sea and coastal views and open out onto a long terrace.brbrThe lower level at Evanne is home to two more bedrooms - a double and a double-twin. Each of these rooms is accessed independently via sliding glass doors from a sea-view terrace, and each one comes with its own en-suite shower room and kitchen corner.brbrOutside: the al fresco areas of Evanne mirror the interiors, in that they're spread over three levels. Stairs and paths weave between the various terraces and there's lots of space for guests to spread out.brbrThe top level is home to the lovely infinity pool, with its gorgeous views out over Vourkari Bay. Served by a shaded sitting area, a bar and a shower room with WC, this is a great spot in which to unwind during the day and enjoy aperitifs and after-dinner drinks.brbrThe middle terrace is home to the main al fresco dining area, a shady convivial spot, and a large Jacuzzi. Both look out over Vourkari Bay and the sea. On the same level, but on the other side of the house (accessed from the living area) is a secluded dining terrace with large in-built barbecue and wood-burning oven. When the meltemi wind blows, there's no better place to be for lazy lunches and dinners.brbrFinally, the three bedrooms on the lowest level all open out onto yet another sea-view terraced, furnished for lounging and gazing out at the magnetic views.brbrAs this villa is located on an island, we recommend extra caution when booking your flights to avoid problems or delays with ferries and hydrofoils. It may be advisable to arrive a day earlier and depart a day later. Please contact us for any information or advice.brbrEvanne features a fantastic infinity pool, offering swimmers stunning views while in the pool. There is a drop off the infinity side so we recommend children are supervised at all times. Please refer to our general safety page if you would like more information about infinity pools.brbrDue to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.brbrThe number of steps that must be negotiated to get into and/or around this property might make it unsuitable for people with mobility problems.brEvanne sits in a panoramic position above the cosmopolitan village of Vourkari, whose beach, seafront tavernas and bars and little marina are just over a 10-minute walk away.brbrKea is the closest Cycladic island to Athens, so it is relatively easy to reach. This proximity also makes it popular with residents of Greece’s capital, many of whom have chosen the island for their holiday homes. They are also drawn by the many fabulous beaches and the charming scenery, much of which, especially around the coast, is planted with vines and fruit trees. In the rolling hills of the centre, meanwhile, one will find ancient mule tracks, monasteries, fascinating rock formations and windmills. brbrMost visitors arrive at the port of Korissia, which is just 2.5km from Evanne. It is a picturesque little town with small shops, cafés and tavernas dotted along its narrow streets. In the island’s interior is the historical capital, Ioulis, a fascinating place to explore, with pretty streets, an archaeological museum, houses tumbling down a hillside and a good selection of shops, bars and tavernas.brbrThere is an embarrassment of choice when it comes to beaches, and, apart from the beach of Vourkari below the house, guests staying at Evanne can quickly reach several others, including those of Tris Amoudia, Otzias, Gialiskari and Korissia. The beaches on the east, west and south coasts are most easily accessible by boat, and we warmly recommend you hire one for a day or two, if not for your whole stay. brbrFor those interested in history, a visit to the archaeological site of Karthaia, which dates back to the 8th century BCE, is a must. There, perched above the sea in a striking setting, are the remains of a theatre, a Doric temple dedicated to Pythian Apollo and various other ruins.brbrArrival details will be confirmed by The Thinking Traveller after your villa is confirmed.brbrThe Thinking Traveller can organise transfers and car hire and an agent will be in touch with you once your villa is confirmed.

Selene - Seven Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 14

Kea, Kea, Greece

With its prime seafront location, its refined contemporary interiors and its endless array of high-end of amenities, Selene is a villa that never stops giving.brbrDesigned to echo the colours, textures and atmosphere of its surroundings, Selene is an almost organic extension of its habitat. Discreet it may be, but it is also charismatic and capable of inspiring awe: its sea views are breathtaking, its serenity is pulse-slowing, and its quality is evident in every detail. Expect charm, joie de vivre, and a profound sense of generosity.brbrInside: accommodation at Selene is spread over a main house on two floors and two separate suites.brbrThe ground floor of the main house is all on one level and revolves around a fabulously spacious open-concept living and dining area and kitchen. In a stylistic sense, this free-flowing space is a blueprint for the design of the property as a whole, and the architectural devices employed here are reiterated throughout. Walls of locally quarried stone echo the cladding of the exteriors, concrete flooring unites the various zones in a smooth sweep, large picture windows and sliding glass doors make the most of the fabulous sea views and allow easy access to the surrounding decked pool terrace, furnishings combine elegance, quality and comfort, and a soft, earthy palate is perfectly in tune with the hues of the stone walls.brbrAt the far end of this social space, looking out to sea, is the sitting area, complete with a large sofa, a pair of accent chairs and a chaise-longue. At the other end is a large dining table and the sleek, beautifully crafted kitchen, which features a central island bar a separate work surface and enough quality appliances to delight a professional chef. Like the sitting area, the kitchen opens out via a large sliding glass door onto the decked terraces, of which more anon.brbrTo one side of the living and dining area is the welcoming entrance hall, and it is from here that one may access the bedrooms in the main house. The first is a warmly welcoming double with corner fireplace, a sitting area, spell-binding sea views, a large sliding glass door opening out onto a private decked terrace, and a gorgeous en-suite bathroom with sea-view tub and separate walk-in shower.brbrBack in the entrance hall, a flight of stairs leads down to the lower ground floor, where there are four more bedrooms: brbr• a spacious double with a large en-suite shower roombr• a twin with en-suite shower room and a door connecting to the first bedroom (this can be locked or left open depending on the requirements of the occupants)br• a double with en-suite shower room br• a good-sized double bedroom with en-suite shower room and a door connecting to the third bedroom (again, this can be locked or left open)brbrAll these bedrooms come with sea views and access to the lower pool terrace.brbrJust across the decked pool terrace from the main house are the two suites, both of which offer fabulous sea views. The first comprises a spacious living area with a pair of built-in daybeds and a sea-view double bedroom with en-suite shower room. The second, up about 10 steps from the first, is an entire apartment boasting a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, a living area, a kitchen, and a sheltered private courtyard garden.brbrbrOutside: opportunities for al fresco living abound at Selene. We begin on the wide expanse of decked terrace that runs from the main house over to the first independent suite. The living and dining area and the kitchen all flow out via large sliding glass doors onto this space, which features a superb, professionally equipped outdoor kitchen and barbecue area, a shaded dining table and a well-furnished sitting area. This is the place for sociable gatherings, a dreamy spot in which to catch up, share memorable moments, and while away the hours in good company.brbrThis area of decking is delimited on one side by the main pool, a remarkable piece of engineering and design, whose infinity edge runs parallel to the terrace (and above the tennis court) before angling out towards the sea. At the far end of the pool is a sea-view Jacuzzi and the sauna.brbrSteps lead from this decked hub to the lower pool terrace outside the lower ground floor bedrooms. For most villas, this second pool would be a star attraction, but Selene, as you may have intuited, is no ordinary property. brbrMore steps lead down from this area to the gym and on to the tennis/basketball court, both of which are fabulous additions for those who enjoy sporting pursuits.brbrLinked by steps and bordered by stone walls, aromatic shrubs, flowering plants and olive trees, a succession of terraces open up around the property, offering space for everyone to spread out and find their own private spot. Up above the house is a little chapel and a children's play area, with swings, a slide, a see-saw and a climbing frame, all proving that Selene really does cater for everyone in your group, from the youngest to the most experienced!brbrSelene features a fantastic infinity pool, offering swimmers stunning views while in the pool. There is a drop off the infinity side so we recommend children are supervised at all times. Please refer to our general safety page if you would like more information about infinity pools.brbrDue to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.brbrThe number of steps that must be negotiated to get into and/or around this property might make it unsuitable for people with mobility problems.brbrAs this villa is located on an island, we recommend extra caution when booking your flights to avoid problems or delays with ferries and hydrofoils. It may be advisable to arrive a day earlier and depart a day later. Please contact us for any information or advice.brbrYou will need a car to get to shops, restaurants, beaches and other amenities and sites.brSelene sits on the southwest coast of Kea just a short drive from the gorgeous sandy beach of Kambi and about 15 minutes from the village of Pisses, which has a small mini-market and a traditional taverna.brbrKea is the closest Cycladic island to Athens so relatively easy to reach. This proximity also makes it popular with residents of Greece’s capital, many of whom have chosen the island for their holiday homes. They are also drawn by the many fabulous beaches and the charming scenery, much of which, especially around the coast, is planted with vines and fruit trees. In the rolling hills of the centre, meanwhile, one will find ancient mule tracks, monasteries, fascinating rock formations and windmills. brbrMost visitors arrive at the port of Korissia, which is a picturesque little town with small shops, cafés and tavernas dotted along its narrow streets. A little further north is the yachting marina of Vourkari, while in the island’s interior is the historical capital, Ioulis, a fascinating place to explore, with pretty streets, an archaeological museum, houses tumbling down a hillside and a good selection of shops, bars and tavernas.brbrThere is an embarrassment of choice when it comes to beaches, and, apart from Kambi, mentioned above, guests staying at Selene can quickly reach several, including those gathered around the bay of Koundouros (good for watersports enthusiasts), Pisses, and Liparo. The beaches on the south and southeast coast are most easily accessible by boat, and we warmly recommend you hire one for a day or two, if not for your whole stay. brbrFor those interested in history (or just a good hike), a visit to the archaeological site of Karthaia, which dates back to the 8th century BCE, is a must. There, perched above the sea in a striking setting, are the remains of a theatre, a Doric temple dedicated to Pythian Apollo and the various other ruins. Please note that Karthaia is not accessible by car: you'll have to park at Stavroudaki and then continue on foot. The hike down to the ancient city takes approximately 40–60 minutes, depending on one’s pace. The trail is considered fairly easy and well-maintained, though because of the incline, the return leg is more challenging, with a steady uphill climb.brbrArrival details will be confirmed by The Thinking Traveller after your villa is confirmed.brbrThe Thinking Traveller can organise transfers and car hire and an agent will be in touch with you once your villa is confirmed.
