There is a great bar/restaurant just around the corner (just before the Sanibel Causeway) called the Bimini Bait Shack. Rest your cocktails on the aquarium bar and listen to the live bands playing from up above the bar! Our personal favorite on Fort Myers Beach is Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grill and the Dixie Fish Co next door is also great. The Smokin’ Oyster Brewery is a fun, casual place and for a local`s hidden gem, try out the Heavenly Biscuit for breakfast. For a special treat, Azure is a fantastic French restaurant located on McGregor and Iona (bookings recommended).brbrSanibel & Captiva islands brThe Sanibel causeway is at the end of your road. Please be aware that it is a toll road ($6 each way) and you will need to pay cash. Traffic can be heavy during season, so allow time to explore these beautiful islands. Once across the causeway you will find the Visitor Information center on your right. There are plenty of walking trails and bicycle paths, fishing, water sports and local art galleries. The Ding Darling wildlife reserve is one of the top coastal bird habitats and worth a visit. The Island Cow is legendary for its breakfasts, and a fabulous place to watch the sunset with a cocktail and your toes in the sand is The Mucky Duck on Captiva. brbrSupermarkets brYou will find a Publix supermarket, a Super Target and a Walmart, 5 minutes from your vacation home. There is also a fantastic local fresh seafood truck situated at the end of the road and a fruit and vegetable stall a little further down that also offers homemade guacamole and salsa!brbrKids activitiesbrThe Smugglers Cove Mini-Golf, where you get to play mini-golf within a pirate ship, is a 10 minute drive from the house, towards Fort Myers Beach. It is a public course and is good for all levels.brbrDuring season (Jan-May), the “Beach-Trolley” drives back and forth from Summerlin Square to Fort Myers Beach about every 40 minutes and it costs 50 cents per person for a single ride. The Beach-Trolley and all other buses stop next to the Sunflower Cafe, which is the main bus-station. You can park your car there for free and take the trolley or the bus from there. With an electric cooker, microwave, fridge freezer and dishwasher as well as all the small appliances you'll need including coffee maker, toaster, electric kettle and blender we cater for your every culinary need. Off the kitchen is the utility room with a washer and dryer as well as vacuum cleaner for those little spills. brbrThe breakfast area overlooks the lanai and has a table and 4 chairs to enjoy a leisurely breakfast.brbrThrough the arch is the sitting room. Well away from the TV this is the quiet zone. Two comfy settees overlook the pool and the lake beyond. With tables for that coffee, tea or glass of wine, just sit and relax and 'do your thing'. We even have a good collection of books for you to enjoy. Adjacent to the sitting room is a dining table with 6 chairs for those family meals.brbrThe final inside relaxing area is the den which has sliding doors onto the pool deck. A settee overlooks the lake behind the house.brbrThe outside area is the place to be in Ft Myers. With a covered patio accessible from the master bedroom, sitting room or breakfast area you can enjoy the view in all weathers. We have a new toughened glass patio table with 6 chairs to enjoy meals or a friendly game amongst friends and family. The pool beyond is approx 30ft long and 14ft wide. It has a safe shallow end for the none swimmers and a 5ft 6in deep end for the more confident. A handy seat at the end of the pool allows you to sit up to your waist in the water and enjoy the view over the lake or enjoy a cool drink in the plastic outside ware we provide.brbrThe pool is solar heated and is generally warm enough from April to October without the help of our brand new 121000BTU Rudd electric heat pump. We can provide this electric heating at extra cost for the cooler months when we less hardy like a little warmer water to enjoy. But please be aware that when the air temperature drops to the 40s to 60s this heat pump will only heat the pool around 10F warmer than the air temperature. brbrBeyond the deck is a patio area beyond the building line of the house which provides full views of the lake and the wildlife that continuously enjoy it. We regularly see Eagrets, Heron, Osprey, Pelicans, Ibis, Cormorants and for the first time this year a Bald Eagle enjoying the lake. Alligators, Otters and Snapper Turtles are also spotted frequently. brbrThe pool area is protected by a mesh cage which keeps most insects out and cuts down some of the Sun's UV rays. Shade trees also provide protection at the end of the deck.brbrIn the garage we have some pool toys (though we can't guarantee condition), beach chairs and parasols as well as a couple of easy rider bikes for a trip to Biscottis around the corner for a coffee or ice cream. brbrWe supply remote controls to access the garage and the gates to Beachwalk Isles - the community where our house is located. They will be waiting for you in the house on your arrival. We just ask that you leave them behind for our next guests on your departure. brbrWe aim to provide a clean, well maintained and comfortable holiday home for you to enjoy. We decorate and update as regularly as we can afford to make your vacation as relaxing and enjoyable as we possibly can.
