There are 2 local pub , 1 serving food, and a part time post office. You can also walk within a couple of minutes down to the Hadrian's Wall milecastle ruins and look out over the waterfall. Further afield there are many other restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops. Not to mention the various sites of interest, including Hadrian's Wall and the roman forts/castles.
