Wilderness and Aurora views yet close to town

Fairbanks, Alaska, United States

A charming cedar shake house perched on a bluff overlooking the Tanana River with a view of the Alaska Range mountains when the weather permits. About 2000 square feet with 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed plus a sofa for overflow sleeping. Total of 5 people can be accommodated in winter.brbrI have lived at Casa Tanana for the past 18 years and have enjoyed it immensely. I recently retired from the Univeristy of Alaska Fairbanks and would like to share my home and its ambiance with you while I am away. brbrYou should think about renting Casa Tanana if you want the most deluxe river camp possible, with an outstanding view of the Tanana River and mountains beyond, where you can enjoy Interior Alaska regardless of the weather. The power of Alaska is in the rivers, mountains and skies and all three are on uncluttered display from the living room and most other places on the property. brbrIf the cloud cover and aurora activity are right you can see the aurora from inside the house if you turn off all the lights. The view from within the house will not be as clear as it would be if you went outside because you will be looking through 4 panes of glass. However, there is no light pollution at Casa Tanana. If you visit primarily for the aurora you should plan on having a car and spending time driving around for the best vantage point for a particular night.brbrLate in the winter when the ice is thickest there is easy access to cross-country skiing on the Tanana River. Easiest skiing is on snow-machine trails on the river but you can venture off the trails to read the animal tracks along the banks.brbrCasa Tanana sits about 100 feet above river level and the view is to the East south-east across the Tanana River and onto the Tanana Flats. The land across the river is a functional wilderness and as a result you never see fixed lights from the living room window in the months when it gets dark, yet you are only about 15 minutes from Fairbanks International Airport, 2 hours from Denali National Park and within about 10 miles of the Fairbanks city center, all accessible on good paved roads. brbrAbout 50 miles across the flats are the mountains of the Alaska Range and when it is clear you can see four peaks ranging from about 12,000 to 14,000 feet in elevation. There is a key to their names on an end table in the living room.brbrThe river is alive, regardless of the season. As a natural travel corridor, aircraft of all types, dog teams, skiers, and watercraft pass by. The water level fluctuates dramatically among the seasons with the least water and most abundant sandbars from late-September through late-June. Mile-wide shallow water dominates the view from late-June through mid-September as snow melts in the mountains. Full moon nights on expansive pure white snow are enchanting. The nighttime skies are unpolluted and the aurora is visible from the property when active and it is not overcast.

Wildcat Pet Friendly Home

Fairbanks, Alaska, United States

The space:brbrWildcat is a three story house on just under five acres. Southeast side facing on the side of the hill. Surrounded by forest and you cannot see any neighbors on the adjacent properties and rarely hear them. There is a dog kennel close by (within a quarter mile walk) that provide dog sledding services for tourists and they’re incredibly friendly and wonderful people. They mush all over in the backwoods and right off the historic Alyeska Pipeline. Hilltop Gas Station is right up the road on the Elliot Highway for an incredible experience eating at the diner there. Best pies in all of Alaska. It is a quiet, quaint and comfortable stay at Wildcat. There is a reason why I picked this place over all other properties in the Fairbanks Northstar Borough. I love it here and I’m sure you will too. Experience my lifestyle for a short or long stay. You will not be disappointed.brbrGuest access:brbrRestricted access is the garage, bedroom across from the guest bedroom you will be staying in and the master bedroom on the third floor. Everywhere else inside and outside is free game unless you come up to a locked structure.brbrOther things to note:brbrYou will have access through a keypad on the door. It will be a four digit code. Please lock up every time you leave the property to secure the house and all belongings I own as well as your own. If you like to shoot a bow or firearms, you can do so on the property. It is not illegal, but do not kill any animals unless you possess a hunting license applicable to this state. All hunting requirements and regulations are to be followed. The Chatinika River is down the road on the Elliot Highway or a trip on an ATV down the Alyeska Pipeline (which is so much fun in the summer). Plenty of fishing done down there and ATV trails to ride on. Olness Pond is a great place to go to for rainbow trout and that’s near the Chatinika River. If available, my four wheeler can be used for riding around and enjoying the outdoors. Just bring it home in one piece.brbrThe Neighborhood:brbrIt is incredibly quiet and peaceful here. The only outside noise that is caused by humans is the highway from the haul road truckers coming up and down occasionally. Otherwise, all you hear is the beautiful sound of nature. The house sits on the southeast side of a hill and gets the most sunlight right over Pedro Dome and heats up everything in the early morning. Incredible view that spans many miles across the valley. Winters are gorgeous and the summers are even more gorgeous. The air is so fresh and clean in the winter time vs. the city of Fairbanks which has the worst air quality of all the United States. Respiratory issues are of no concern here unless there is a forest fire far away that is blowing smoke across the valley. Everywhere will be negatively effected by this. The vegetation surrounding the house is cleared out more than 30’ plus to mitigate any potential forest fire hazards for maximum protection. You are very safe.brbrHouse Rules:brbrShoes off at the front door when roaming around the house. Dishes in dishwasher or by hand at the end of the stay please. Garage is off limits as well as the master bedroom and the adjacent bedroom. If you have dogs, please ensure they are within your control inside and outside of the house and any damage that is incurred will be charged accordingly. Animals are not to go on any piece of furniture. If you decide to cook, please clean up the kitchen and leave it in the same condition you found it in. Should you be a smoker (cigarettes, cigars, electronic, etc.), please do so outside and throw away the cigarette butts in the garbage bin. When leaving the property for any reason, please ensure that the front door is locked before departure on your adventures.brbrOther Things to Acknowledge:brbrPet(s) live on property - Older female Akita dog names Desna.brAmenity limitations - Food is limited, but will be identified for consumption by the guests. Recommend bringing food that is preferred.brMust climb stairs.brSurveillance or recording devices on property - Cameras on front door, garage door, front of house and driveway. All will be on and recording audio and video.brWeapons on property - Firearms are secured in gun cases in personal spaces.

Your Hive Away From Home!!

Fairbanks, Alaska, United States

About this spacebrYour Hive Away From Home!! (Get it Bee Hive !) Our 2 bedroom, 1 bath home is set on 3 beautifully secluded acres in the hills above Fairbanks with 2 Peaceful Bee Hives working hard to collect as much honey as possible while summer is in full swing! If you are looking for an escape from the craziness of life and ready for a break, look no further. We are an easy 15 min drive from all the amenities of town, but the peace and quiet you will gain are unmatched. We look forward to hosting you!brThe spacebrOur home is in a well spread out neighborhood and the beautiful Northern Boreal Forest in between each house provides ample buffer to make you feel like you are all alone. In reality however, town is only 15 minutes away with the Fox General Store being half that (they have basic necessities like brownies and milk when your wife has a pregnancy craving!).brbrThis distance from town makes a big difference during the months when it actually gets dark (September-April) as you are far enough away from the light pollution to see the Northern Lights completely unobstructed. Our property is very open and if the Northern Lights are out, you will see them from our house!!brbrIn the summer, you will love the HUGE maintained yard and wrap around deck. There are several trails you can explore that leave directly from behind our property. Also feel free to check out the garden, as well as the wild Raspberries scattered around the yard (season dependent of course).brbrThe first floor holds the cozy and well stocked kitchen, living room, master bedroom (Queen Bed), and bathroom. Upstairs is a combined bedroom (Full bed) and office area. The home is heated by an oil stove that keeps it quite toasty, and there are fans available for the rare extra hot days!brGuest accessbrThe entire house is available for guest use except for a small closet under the stairs. The home sits on almost 3 acres and you are welcome to enjoy the deck, entire yard, and small garden or go explore the wild areas and see if you can find wild raspberries. We also have 2 honey bee hives (the gentlest strain of honey bees possible working on the edge of the property). The trails behind the house are open to explore, but be mindful of our neighbors and respect their privacy (If you can even find them! There aren't very many neighbors!)brOther things to notebrIn the summer (Mid May-Mid September), any vehicle can easily reach our home. It is fully paved until the last 1/2 mile and then it turns to a well maintained gravel road. Once it starts to snow, an AWD or 4WD vehicle is highly recommended!
