Stayed Oct 11, 2024Nice location near the river and close drive to Abingdon. Outside deck was great for games and gathering. Luckily we had nice weather! Enough bedrooms to fit our family, but note that not all are private due to the layout. Kitchen utensils and cooking supplies are limited and it has a small living area. Some basic cleaning supplies, like a broom, would be helpful. Only one trash bag and no extra toilet paper so be prepared! The house sits on a sloped hill with a tricky driveway, but stargazing was nice. Kayaks and canoe were fun, but there’s no real entry into the river right across the road so it was a challenge getting in and out. Bought firewood through host in advance, but did not use it because the ring is right next to the road and the “firewood” looked like old planks from a house. A few items left under the beds and on the porch also made me question how clean it was. The Host definitely communicated, with multiple texts during our weekend stay. Overall, it served its purpose and my mom loved the porch overlooking the river. However, it is an old house in the country with well water so it’s hard to give it a 5-star rating compared to some other more updated places we’ve stayed.

Stayed Jul 19, 2024Loved our stay. Having the kayaks were a blessing. Fishing was fun and activities we done around the area. A few things we could suggest would be a broom and couple of trash bags would have nice. The trash was left in the garage so it stuck to high heaven. We couldn’t enjoy the ping pong table because of it. Otherwise we had a wonderful, relaxing stay . Thank you

Stayed Mar 29, 2024We needed a place for Easter weekend so that we could visit my brother, who lives in Abingdon. We chose this property for the proximity to the river (North Fork of Holston river) and still close to town for the great restaurants/ attractions Abingdon has to offer as well as only about a 12-15 minute drive to my brother’s house. Getting into the house was a breeze with the code provided. The house is directly across a very lightly travelled road from the river and has great views from the very large deck that encompasses the entire front of the house and expands along the driveway. We saw eagles, hawks, Kingfishers, Turkeys, etc and had a good chance to stargaze once the sun went down. There is also a small rock-rimmed firepit next to the river that was enjoyable. The bedroom setup was a little different, as a few of the beds are only accessible by passing thru another bedroom. We were all family so it wasn’t really an issue. Beds were comfortable with the exception of middle, upstairs mattress. There are canoes and kayaks in the garage for river excursion. My son in law and grandkids had a blast fishing and its such easy access to the river from the house…no packing lunch, snacks, drinks…just watching them from the deck! Phlox and daffodils blooming just outside the kitchen/dining room windows were beautiful. Only one full bath /a shower stall so had to schedule out shower times but again, w/ close family it all went smoothly. Overall pleasant stay w/ lots of fish

Stayed Apr 20, 2023Megan the host communicated daily. The place was amazingly taken care off. The girls of our staff enjoyed the river and boats provided. The deck over looking the river was a great place for our staff to unwind after a long day at the Speedway. We would surely book this property again.

Stayed Dec 20, 2020Four adults, two cats, and one dog all stayed here for about two weeks in the winter. Overall, we were quite pleased with the stay, but there were a few drawbacks. Only two rooms of the six are private, the other four require passing through someone’s room or being in an open loft area without any sound privacy. The listing wasn’t super clear about the close quarters of the space, but it thankfully wasn’t much of an issue for our group of four. The well water was stinky, but we were prepared for that (clearly states in the listing). The host provided us a couple gallons of water to start with, but we ended up purchasing a lot more. The larger beds were comfy enough, but the twin beds (5 beds total) were very uncomfortable and sagged in the middle. Probably okay for kids, but wouldn’t recommend trying to put teenagers or adults on them for any length of time. The driveway was a little steep but overall manageable. It was a bit dangerous when it iced over, but we purchased salt and had no further issues. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with cooking supplies, but I would recommend bringing a knife sharpener and your own mixing bowls (if needed). The view of the river is beautiful and the deck is very nice. We didn’t interact much with the neighbors and they weren’t super close-by, but just a few houses down is a confederate flag and lots of signs for #45. As a multiracial group of people, we weren’t super comfortable taking walks along the road/river. Just something to be aware of, not the host’s fault. It’s only about 15 minutes to Abingdon proper which had a nice bakery (Anthony’s) and a cool coffee shop (Girl and Raven — try their sorghum cookies and cinnamon rolls!). There are a few big grocery stories in town offering curbside pickup and the Virginia Creeper Trail is a must-see! Our dog loved running around the hill behind the house, and there are so many beautiful hikes and parks within 90 minutes of the house. We loved Grayson Highlands, Devil’s Bathtub, Cherokee Nat’l Forest, and Whitetop Mountain.
