Restored stone house in a pretty village in the heart of the Périgord Noir

We arrived fifteen minutes late (with only an address, not directions, which our car satnav did not recognise). No-one met us on arrival, or later, or on the following day, as promised. There was little to guide us: no info on wi-fi (we had to telephone the owner for the password); no visitors' book, which, in our experience, is usually filled with helpful info, e.g. on local restaurants). We saw no washing machine, dryer or sunloungers, and only located them after reading the owner's on-line response to other guests who had failed to find them (no surprise, given the ridiculous location and access: I have seen less intimidating entries to disused mine workings!). TV operation is a complete nonsense. The house is actually fine internally, apart from the washing machine / dryer issue, but is badly let down by the garden. The immediate impression on arrival is one of neglect. The pergola area is fine, but the only part of the garden open to the sun, where one might like to spend a little time, is a small and uneven area of gravel overgrown with well-established weeds, and partially separated from the road by neglected shrubs. The pathways are uneven and potentially hazardous. The area is in serious need of attention: it is simply not good enough for a holiday rental property. The advertised parking on site (important to us when choosing a holiday property) does not exist. This is very poor. Local public parking is not an acceptable substitute. Partial refund in order?

Very nice stay. The house is very clean and everything you need is there. Perfect place to visit several beautiful sites.

It fits well with family lifes well located for touristic spots. All facilities around the cottage.

We had a fantastic week staying at this property. It was fully equipped with everything we needed. The small terrace was shaded all day long which meant when we were there, we spent most of our time outside. Beautifully decorated and very clean when we arrived. Carlux is small but there is a small shop (fresh milk Tuesdays only), boulongeries ( open mornings) and a couple of bars/ restaurants. Halle Paysanne is also a farm shop with lovely fresh produce, wine and local delicacies. A pizza van arrives on Thursday evenings and it's pizzas were excellent. Carlux is quite central and we visited caves and castles, played mini golf and took a boat trip along the river. A much needed and very relaxing holiday. Michel-ange is very easy to contact and very helpful.

The accommodation was very attractive, comfortable, well equipped & very clean. Carlux is a lovely village idea for exploring the region.
