Stayed Mar 31, 2026Lovely property that felt very safe and tucked away. We were worried about the heat and no AC when we arrived- but found that the fans upstairs and keeping the shutters open until we went to bed cooled everything down so nicely. The beaches across the street were really fun- but definitely bigger waves to play in, vs a calm water beach (which there is down the road a bit more). We had a blast riding our bikes around town and to different beaches to try out. It was the only way to get around with traffic as crazy as it was during Holy Week, while we were there. The hosts, Shelly and Carlos, live next door and were awesome! So helpful with tips of where to go and what to try, Carlos always saying yellow and being so welcoming whenever we ran into him out and about, and just overall seemed like such good and warm people.

Stayed Mar 4, 2026Shelley, Carlos, and Darien are AMAZING. My family and I had such a memorable stay at their home. The open concept is exactly what you want at a location within the rain forest. They were very accommodating throughout our stay. The location is within walking distance from 3 grocery stores (supermarkets), a pharmacy, and delicious restaurant. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, and open. We highly recommend staying here. We will see you all again

Stayed Feb 3, 2026Host, Shelly, was wonderful! Although in a neighborhood, Open-Air concept-house, amongst the VERY GREEN trees, certainly gave you the feel of being in the jungle… could hear all the sounds, from howling monkeys, to rainforest birds(Toucans, etc) to agoutis… and a few civilized dogs & cats. The woodwork and decoration was outstanding. She does as good as you possibly could with upkeep considering all the rain, surrounding trees, and animals. Kudos!

Beds are comfortable.perfect place for the kids to disconnect without a tv and social media. Shelly the host was very kind and offered advice and recommendations on local hangout spots, beaches and all sorts of cool activities in the area.

Stayed Aug 26, 2025This is a great villa, very stylish and very convenient to everything surrounding the area. Shelly is extremely friendly and very helpful with local advice and assistance. My wife and I were in Costa Rica for our anniversary and my birthday. The fishing tour Shelly suggested was outstanding. We definitely enjoyed Puerto Pirata Tiki Bar for cocktails and watching one of the prettiest sunsets we have ever seen, which we visited 3 times during our stay. Pura Vida.

Stayed Jul 9, 2024We had a wonderful adventure with Casa del Caribe as our home base. It really feels like you are staying in the jungle, but with plenty of creature comforts. The jungle plants keep the property shady, the fans keep the rooms cool at night, and the pool is great to cool off in. There was lots of wildlife activity day and night. A bat family roosted by the bedroom door each day (we did rescue a baby bat from the pool with Jess's help - will never forget that!). Birds and monkeys create a really cool soundscape around the bungalow. One day we got rained out and we were a little bummed until we got back to the bungalow to find a visitor! A sleepy sloth! My son was SO excited! He slept in a backyard tree for nearly a whole day! By 4pm the sloth was very active and entertained us for quite a while before moving on to the next yard. Shelly was always super quick to answer any questions before our arrival and during our stay. She is a great host! We will miss our time at Casa del Caribe and always remember it!

Stayed Mar 10, 2024We stayed at this house in Cocles for 5 days in the middle of March 2024. This is our 6th trip to Costa Rica but first time traveling to the Puerto Viejo/Cocles area. Prior to our trip we had concerns about bugs in the home and being able to stay cool at night given the open air style home. The owner mentioned that those are not complaints she has heard of in the past. I wanted to give others a first hand account of our experience. The positives: Shelly and her son are really nice people and attentive to communication via email and WhatsApp. The location is great. Close to beaches and restaurants. The splash pool was really nice The negatives: cleanliness of grounds: Lots of dead branches and leaves around the yard with black plastic fencing between the yards. Trash scattered around the backyard (old tools, buckets, paint cans). The home: Quite a few bugs in the home. Returning home from this location our family has never had so many bug bites. Given the outdoor living arrangement some bug bites were to be expected but it was overwhelming. Halfway through our trip, 3 of our 5 family members experienced extensive bug bites over most of our bodies and we suspected bed bugs. This was confirmed when we returned home. I told the owner of this problem so hopefully she will replace the mattresses. Other: Hot bedrooms, uncomfortable beds and pillows. We would not stay here again despite the friendly owner.

Stayed Feb 18, 2024We had an amazing time diving into the culture of the local towns. Shelly was amazing in giving us ideas and off the beaten path recommendations for food and adventure spots. The house was a great place for our family to relax and the pool was a great break from the ocean. You can walk or ride to all the nearby beaches towns and restaurants. Highly recommend!
