I enjoyed the property, it was clean and beautiful, next year if possible i would rent it again,.
This was our second year to stay at this property, and it's every bit as good as it was before. Clean, has all that you need, clear labeling and directions for everything as well. We kept the boat on the trailer out in front of the house each evening, then trailered to the matagorda harbor marina for a quick, easy launch. (4 ramps and lots of dockage means it rarely gets crazy). Grilled at the house 2 nights, ate out 2 nights. Matagorda is a very small, easy going town. A real getaway for anyone from a big city.
The house is amazing; fully stocked kitchen with wine glasses and a wine opener! Plenty of room for the whole family to watch a movie in the living room after a long day on the beach. Fans in the closet were a bonus (always have to sleep with one on). Will definitely stay here again!
The water was very shallow and the fact that you have to take your own trash or pay for it stinks after paying so much. But the house was clean and the fishing was nice. Wish you here was shade.
My husband and I chose this house because of its proximity to the Colorado River. The house was very nice with everything we needed and the deck was a perfect place for morning coffee. Karen was extremely helpful and answered my questions very promptly. We would definitely return!
Really enjoyed our stay at the Catch and Relax river house. The accommodations were terrific. River front view was very relaxing and enjoyed the pier at sunset. The house was very comfortable with all the amenities needed. We loved the fishing and had delicious bbq’s with plenty of shade and a cool breeze. We will definitely be back again.
Stayed here for a couple nights on a fishing trip. The place was very clean and well kept. Owners were good with communication and provided everything we needed for our stay. Definitely recommend.
This cabin was very clean and we enjoyed our stay. I only have 2 negative critiques- I like to sleep really cool and night and the thermostat is set where it cannot go lower than 72. I don’t think this should be set where it cannot be made cooler. The second critique is that the towel I used in the bathroom was well worn and it had a sour smell from being so old. Other than these 2 things, we enjoyed our stay there.
This property was as described in listing. Comfortable beds and soft sheets. Big TV in living area. The recliner chair did not recline. Kitchen well stocked. We are allergy sufferers and the strong fragrance from the air freshener was a bit much for us. I unplugged it and sat it on balcony during our stay. Easy solution to that problem. The coolest temperature setting is 72. We like to sleep cooler at night so this was an issue for us. Great to have nice washer/dryer in the house. Loved having morning coffee and eating meals on the balcony. Be sure to bring mosquito repellent. Overall it was a great stay.

our second stay and we would not consider anywhere else ! private, quiet, really restful. When it came time to leave, we packed up and then just sat out on the dock til the very last moment wishing we didn't have to go. Caught lots of really nice fish to the point of wishing for more fishing and less catching ! We'll definitely be back !

My wife and I rented the house for an anniversary getaway and enjoyed this place immensely..they even had a gift of champagne for us when we arrived ...we will definitely go back
Wonderful property and host! Everything was better than expected, plenty of room, lots to do and the host was quick to respond with and questions. This was our first experience with stayed me through a site, and it was great! We hope to return soon when the weather is more dependable.
Used this house as base camp while we fished and hunted in the Matagorda area. Property was perfect spot to come back and relax. Everything was clean and the kitchen was well appointed. Nice dock for fishing and hanging out on, I’ll plan on staying here again.
We had a BLAST! Check in was painless, overall house and included items in kitchen and bathrooms were AMAZING! Everything that we needed, was there! House layout was absolutely perfect for a couples vacation, which we had and it worked out great. Green Light at pier was awesome and we enjoyed the fish it brought and the convenience of fishing right at the house which we did late at night. Beds were soft and comfortable, however, air conditioning was not cool. Fans were provided in each bedroom which helped some. Location of the house was extremely close to either a gas station, Dollar General, Ice machines or the beach. Perfect location in our opinion. Highly recommend this house!!
We continue to book here time after time. We love the place! It is always clean, has all you need, love the outdoor sitting areas, communication with the owners is A plus. Our faves are the porch swing that is in a shaded area looking out at the water, the water hose (yes... sand is a pain to clean off shoes and swimsuits) by the stairs to rinse off sand after a day at the beach and the vicinity.
This was our 3rd time to stay at the Catch & Release and was amazing as always! I loved all of the little items that have been added :) We will not stay anywhere else when we plan a Matagorda trip! Thank you for sharing your home.
We have stayed in places all over mostly try to stay in B&B or house rentals this was the best yet nice furniture great accommodations great location our captain picked us up in the boat right there at the dock wonderful honest people to work with I left an important item there and they did everything possible to return it. Thank you so much

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and this will be our go to when we want a quick vacation from Houston! The house was very clean and had everything stated. We spent days on the beach, evenings fishing from the dock, and caught and steamed crabs using the traps provided. Never even turned on the TV!
Great property with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Really enjoyed watching the boats coming and going. Bring binoculars to watch the wildlife come to the feeder across the river each evening. Restaurant and grocery selection is pretty limited in Matagorda, so plan accordingly.
My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Catch, Relax Retreat. Everything was really nice, equipped with full kitchen supplies and we had fun on pier with nite lighting. We had a real good stay. 👍 Thanks Karen

The property was great but may need new cleaning staff. Overall property was clean but dishwasher was full and not sure if dishes were clean. Just left them and washed what we used by hand. Outdoor ashtray had not been emptied but not that big a deal. Plastic glove was left on dock so not sure if it had been left by previous renter or belonged to owners. Fishing was great..caught stingray, trout, flounder and lots of crabs. I would rent this property again.
Mike and Kathy our owners were so accommodating! Beautiful home and full of almost everything you need, we just forgot to bring our blender haha. One thing that stood out is that pictures are just as is online, and if they say they have it int items, they do! This helped us with packing and we have stayed in other places that said you have everything you need, dishes ,etc and did not...Catch and Relax does!!!!! We will be back!
Great rental for our mini vacation away from home! Enjoyed the amenities with the house. Very relaxing environment. We caught crabs, Red drum, Eels, stingray, and much more from the dock!
We wanted to vacation at a house that we could do some fishing off the dock. And that we did! Pretty good variety of fish. We even caught a sting Ray and a couple of eel! The house was very clean and the AC ran great which was very much needed to get away from the heat! When we needed to get in touch with the owners, they responded quickly! Overall, it was a great stay and we would for sure rent here again! I think our only complaint would be that we had to drive away from the house to dump the trash. It would be amazing to have a trash can at the front of the house so we didn’t have to put the trash in our car’s. Thanks for an amazing vacation and wonderful memories!
Everything about this property was awesome. Clean, well stocked kitchen. Fishing was a little slow due to all the recent rain before our arrival. Awesome boats running up and down the river. Sunsets were amazing with a glass of wine! We will be back for sure.
The Catch and Relax home is a great place for many reasons. First, there's great communication from the owners. Also, it's got the classic Texas beach house feel you'll find in Galveston or Port A, but it's on the Colorado River and only a couple of miles from the beach. The home is setup up perfect for 2 couples (our group), but I can see 2 small families making it work as well. I'm a native Texan and I've literally been to every beach town on the Texas coast. Matagorda is a unique area because of the town's location and the road to the beach. This house is almost exactly in the middle between the actual town and the beach. 5 minutes to the beach. 5 minutes to town. It's a great location if you're in Matagorda to fish or just explore. The Matagorda Harbor is less than 10 minutes away. However, the only keeper Redfish I caught was off the pier at the house!
Nice property with great space outside, right on the river. Inside the living/dining/kitchen area is very spacious with views of the river. Everything you could want for a comfortable time in the small fishing town. Owner was very easy to work with and helped out when the rain caused havoc with our plans!

We had a nice, relaxing time at this house. It was so clean and cozy. We loved that it was right on the Colorado River and enjoyed watching all the boats going by and birds flying. The sunsets are amazing from the deck. Close to town for supplies and eating out. Just a few minutes from the beach. Best stocked kitchen we have had in a rental. Owners even left us a sweet anniversary gift. Very thoughtful.
caught a HUGE black drum (well over 50 lbs.) right off the dock, also, smaller drum, and flounder, used one redfish tag ! did the best on dead shrimp .. house was very clean .. very well appointed and furnished .. we will come again !
This place was just perfect for us. It was clean, well equipped and great location. We had a wonderful time fishing and relaxing. Would recommend and hope to return someday. Also excellent communication with owners.
We had a fantastic trip and really enjoyed the property. The owners were extremely responsive and very kind. The house was comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked with cookware and utensils. We came to fish and the dock was perfect for all four of us and plenty of space. We caught many different types of fish and were able to see porpoise swim by. There is a fish cleaning station on the property which was great. My only complaint, which seems like a common theme in the area, is that there is no close trash disposal. The dump is not open every day and you pay to dispose of trash. Definitely not a deal breaker for us, and we would love to go back.

We absolutely loved our stay. Had a blast on the bay, beach and even chilling at the house on the dock under the stars. We limited on reds and caught a mess of crabs, sharks, and even a massive black drum off the back dock. Aside from the lovely interior our favorite part about this property was the sunset view. On the top deck you can just see west bay in the distance as hogs and deer roam the bank of the other side of the river. 10/10 will definitely stay again. Thank you for the experience! - Drew
Lovely home with comfy beds and all the emmenities you will need. The fishing was great, having your own deck and fishing table was a plus. Just minutes from town and beach, with the bay and the river just outside your door! The owners were helpful and quick to reply to questions I highly recommend this property.
To start off, the name Catch and Relax is absolutely the perfect name this property! The house was incredibly clean, and you can tell attention to detail is at the forefront of these owners. So much so that every switch was labeled! (This alone gets 5 stars in my book) the house is set up perfectly for two couples, but more people could definitely stay comfortably without issue. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need from dishes to koozies, and even a full size washer and dryer! The waterfront view from the top and bottom balcony is amazing and there is plenty of seating and grill provided. The property perfectly accommodated those that wanted to fish (husbands) and those that just wanted to relax and make fun of our lack of catching (wives). The lack of catching is not a reflection on the property, more on our sub par fishing skills. Lastly, the owners of this property are absolutely amazing and went far above and beyond to make our stay a true vacation. Would definitely recommend this property!
We didn't sit down inside until the morning we packed up, everything else was outside and enjoying the view - and the dock! Great place for a 1st Anniversary, house is beautifully decorated, but not over the top - which a lot of rentals are when at/near the beach. Looking for a quiet getaway in a small town near the water? This is definitely it!
We had the most amazing time! Property was perfect. Was so easy to check in/out and communication was on point. We didn’t spend much time inside. As you can imagine we were on the dock all the time! Perfect location between beach and town. Neighbors were quite and friendly. The only thing that we wished we had more of was the rod holders on the dock and another light. Other than that it was amazing! We brought our own fire pit and enjoyed a fire almost every night! Everything was perfect! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay. We will be back for sure!
We love this property, this was our second stay in the last 6 months. The owners are always adding and upgrading the home. I love that you can cook a whole Christmas meal and have every cooking utensil, pot, pan, etc. needed. The property is always clean and well kept. The deck is amazing for views and the kids love watching the boats and even some dolphins this trip. We will be back! Thanks
Awesome house..great layout for family and friends to gather... fully stocked kithen..large screen tv if you get bored of the beach andfishing?..plenty of deck space and large lighted fishing pier ...barbq pit downstairs and plenty of gathering space with great lighting and picnic tables...great thoughtful responsive hosts as well...
Our second stay in Catch & Relax Retreat in 4 months. We returned, 2 couples, because the first stay was that good. All information describing this property is spot on and more. Great communication with the owners, awesome layout of home with all the comforts needed, just bring your toothbrush and change of clothes. We caught fish everywhere and cleaned fish using owners great cleaning station. Tried to catch the ginormous grouper under owners decking 😂 Not successful! Walking the beach was quiet and clean. Several new updates to the home and decking made us appreciate the integrity of restoring property to make the renter feel welcome. We will definitely be back to this gem of a Retreat.
The rental property was cleaned and nicely decorated just as described in VRBO. The fishing dock was well lit for night fishing. It's equipped with bright green light on a 2 hr timer. The home was closed to town and everything within a 10 mins driving distance. The beach was a surprise treat. Located right on the Gulf of Mexico. It's cleaned and the water wasn't too cold. We did a little surf fishing and caught a bunch of fish there. All in all, the rental was great place and I would recommend to anyone who wants a little R n R.
My family and I had a wonderful time! The house was perfect! It supplied everything you needed. Karen and Mike were very hospitable and always responded quickly with my questions. We enjoyed the Dock and fished every day cashing Red fish, sand trouts, flounders and crabs. We will definitely come back again. Thank you so much, we really didn’t want to go home but will be back soon.
Perfect place for our family of four to just relax and unwind. This is a place to refuel. If you feel like fishing, just walk a few steps out the back door. Wanna go to the bathroom, get refreshments, take a nap? Just walk a few steps back inside. Your teens are tired of fishing, but you’re not? No problem—they can go in and watch tv while you fish all night. You can even rest your rod in one of the rod holders and go take a break. Come back out and you might have a catch. And everything you could possible need is right there in the house. Fry your fish and eat at the picnic table on the porch. LOVED it and already planning our next visit.
Property is located right on the Colorado River just.before it empties into the gulf. The property had nice furniture inside and out. It was fun watching.the wildlife on the opposite shore. Beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well.equipped. We would do this again. The owners were very responsive.
Great place to stay! This was our second stay at this property this year. Owners are fantastic and the home is in a great location - close to the beach area and also to the marina! Also set up great for fishing right off the dock complete with green light for night fishing. We love it and are hoping to stay here again soon!!

We had great time at this cabin. Cabin is very clean and has plenty of covered area to sit and relax in the shade. Will definitely be returning for another stay.
Perfect place for either fishing on the pier or kayaking on the river or bays. Girls fished into the night on the pier and got enough bites to make it fun while watching guys kayaking and fishing the river. Even caught a few crabs with traps provided by owner. Home was very clean with large living area and kitchen. Owner was very helpful even giving us fishing tips! Left planning our next trip back.
Stayed 3 nights for some R&R an have nothing but good to say. This home is very well taken care of, clean and has everything you need in the kitchen. The beds were super comfortable & there is ample seating on the living room sofas.The roomy dining table was perfect for us to sit down and eat together, and there's another table outside on the deck. Speaking of the deck, we watched the sunset each night from the new deck and it was beautiful. Also enjoyed the swing downstairs while the guys fished off the dock. We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay here again. Thank you!
It was just as expected as the pictures shown. We had an awesome time sitting on the pier fishing, crabbing, and seeing the awesome sunsets. The owner was very acomidating when we mentioned the coffee pot didn't work very well, he went and bought a new one along with a surprise coffee. We will definitely keep this property in mind for a future trip!
We had a wonderful time during our stay. The home is very clean, up to date and very well taken care of. The home has a great setup and is furnished with everything you need from dishes, pots and pans, plenty of towels, extra pillows and bedding. The beds were very comfortable, even the air mattress in the living room. We enjoyed sitting out fishing and watching the boats go by from the decks. Coffee on the porch each morning looking at the river was amazing! The location is ideal for a quick trip to the store or a day at the beach. The owners were easy to communicate with and very responsive. We have stayed at several vacation rentals and this is among the best. We will be back for sure.

We loved out stay at the Catch and Relax Retreat. The location was great - not too far from the beach area or to town to pick up anything you might need. The house was beautiful and clean and had everything we needed. And we caught fish right off the deck! Thank you to the very thoughtful owners for making our 37th Anniversary trip so special.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location really couldn't have been any better. Whether we needed bait, wanted to go to the beach, head out for fishing in the Spring Bayou (caught quite a few reds that were keepers there) or if we wanted to go into Matagorda for small items we were able to do so very quickly and comfortably. Location is everything! The dock, pier and the house were amazing, too. We really didn't need to bring anything. We brought our cast iron and griddle, but those items were already there! Literally everything we needed was there. The communication with the owners was always open and quick. The best vacation rental we've ever had. We would 10/10 times recommend this place to friends/family. Actually, we already have!! Perfect!!!
