On, arrival you will find generous parking. Four long flights of steps divide you from the rest of the world. We do not recommend our home to those who can not negotiate stairs well. A tram will carry your baggage down to the two-bedroom turnkey vacation rental nestled on the hillside of the southern tip of Whidbey Island. The natural rural setting combine the quaint appeal of a Puget Sound waterfront cottage community with miles of secluded beach to comb for agates and shells or any other water passion. Conveniently located 15 minutes from Langley or the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry, this is a perfect place to enjoy all the activities the island offers. The size and infrastructure of our home limits us to allow a maximum of 4 adults. For the courtesy of our guests this home is a non-smoking, non-pet facility, and Not ADA accessible.
Possession Beach House has been a Vacation Rental since 1999. We have had guest from around the world and enjoy return guests, some of whom have been returning for a decade. The home is a work in process. Originally built in 1942 and remolded in 1968, I bought into a place that needed every board to be replaced and have been doing so piece by piece with my guests enjoying the steady progress. Of course there are signs of the change throughout the home as the transition is made. Cracks from leveling the house when a new foundation was installed and areas sorely needing renovation while patiently waiting their turn. All in all, the home is a comfortable cozy place you will feel at home in. Eclectic, yes; modern designer home, not yet.
Indoor; on the first floor, you will find the main living area with living room, dining, kitchen, laundry, bath, and spare room. The living Room has been renovated boasting windows that surround the room with view. There is a 41” flat screen, Smart DVD player, and Wi-Fi. The Dining room/kitchen area seats six and has a roomy “one butt” kitchen. The kitchen had most everything you will need to cook, bake, and feed your family. Bottled Drinking water is provided. Regrettably to some, there is no dishwasher. There is a single rollaway and a hideabed great for kids but uncomfortable for adults. Lol
Surrounding the home outdoors there is a fireplace that anchors the expansive deck. Among the amenities we have; Charcoal BBQ, outdoor dining table and chairs for 4, 4 adirondack chairs, Propane heater, propane crab cooker.
On the second floor there are two bedrooms; a front room with queen bed and a view of the sound and a back bedroom with a queen bed and a half bath.
On the ground floor; the home is in progress… there will be; a future Sunroom; entertainment room, foyer, ¾ bath, and interior stairway to the rest of the home.
Outside; there is a lawn and lower deck. And of course the beach! Amenities include; a picnic table a couple loveseats and a small row boat*.
Risk and responsibly is incurred with use.
Our stay at the vacation home on Whidbey Island was great and very relaxing. The views were awesome and we spent many hours walking the beach. The time spent there with our kids was unforgettable and great memories were made - we put the outdoor fireplace to good use and ate most our meals out on the deck enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather! Thank you for sharing your home!
We enjoyed our stay, saw river otters, harbor porpoises, and seal.
It was a nice getaway that was close to Seattle, and was able to explore the towns of Whidbey Island.
Epic view and beach access. Older house, but priced accordingly. Absolutely LOVED my stay and great communication from the owner. We had everything we needed at the house, fully equipped.
If you're not a hiker, don't attempt to visit this beautiful paradise on earth. Luckily, I am, so the huge (10,000 stairs? No, probably 9,925 less) staircase straight down the side of a cliff to the house was not a problem, but fair warning. You won't want to leave, and not just because of the stairs. The house, the view, the hiking trails in the area, the distilleries! This is a perfect resort for anyone with strong yams. We loved it.
The whole experience was exactly what we were looking for - quiet relaxing environment with a scenic view.
This was a perfect getaway for our family. Bruce was very communicative and accommodating of our request. My family loved being right on the water and seeing so much wildlife. We would definitely love to go back another time!
Overall we had a great time. We've been to Whidbey numerous times over the years, but this was our first time in this house. The location was great; right on the beach and steps from a fabulous hike up onto a ridge with a great view (Possession ridge?). It's also down the beach from a state park which was a bonus and only a short drive from Pickles Deli and the Bagel Factory. What I wish I had realized before booking is that we needed to wash, dry, and fold all our linens prior to leaving. We were trying to catch an 11:00 ferry back to Seattle and, even starting at 8:00, not everything was dry by 10:30. It was a bit of a stressful end to an otherwise nice vacation. There were also several downstairs windows that didn't latch shut. Whidbey is obviously very safe, but as a woman and the only adult in the house with my kids, it made me a little nervous. Otherwise, though, we had a great time.
We had a wonderful time at the beach house. We'd definitely stay again. :)
Nice, quiet and just what the doctor ordered for a long weekend to decompress. We didn't mind the bad weather because the house has a beautiful view and a comfortable feel. Dolphins, seals and bald eagles were on hand. Kitchen allowed us to cook some excellent meals. Terrific.
We had the BEST time staying at this house. Bruce answered all our questions very quickly. The house was amazing with views of the sound through every window. The sunrises each morning were captivating and were made so much more memorable by the many porpoises swimming by. Incredible place. We will be back for sure.
My husband, daughter and I have a tradition of staying by the water for Thanksgiving. After moving from Connecticut this summer, this was our first PNW rental. We feel very fortunate to have found this house! The view, in its changing forms over the days and evenings, was punctuated by seals (sea lions?), herons and all kinds of water birds. We loved walking the beach every day in addition to the easy drives to hike in the state parks around the island. The house demonstrates the difference between fancy and quality. If you are looking for granite counter-tops and brand new ceramic bathroom fixtures, go elsewhere. But, the sheets and towels are in very good shape, the kitchen has everything I needed to make our Thanksgiving dinner, starting with the best knives I've ever seen in a rental--no chopping carrots and potatoes with a steak knife! Also, very nice pots and pans, a variety of baking dishes, plenty of bowls, plates etc. In general, if you want a comfortable, well-stocked, extremely clean property, you could not do better. It reminded me of the family cabin in northern Minnesota where I spent many summer vacations--an older property with well water and a septic system, but clearly maintained with a lot of love and filled with good memories. Thank you to the owners for a great place to stay in a wonderful location.
Absolutely everything you want and more when it comes to a view of the sound! Such a quiet little spot on Whidbey Is. House is dated but has everything you need for a cozy getaway. Only thing missing....those orcas! We’ll be back to spot one in the future!
We had a great time staying here. We had two kids with us 8 and 4. Lots of stairs but the trolley works great. Loved the location, steps away from the beach.
Yes, the house is dated and the decor is basically thrift shop chic, but the price reflects that. The place was exceptionally clean, extremely well appointed, the linens were higher end, and there was everything that we needed for cooking and a comfortable stay. Let's be clear: the water for bathing and doing dishes stunk of sulphur and was ALMOST as hard as the uncomfortable couch, but there were tons of blankets and chair pads (which I stacked on the couch,) books, games, puzzles, stainless pots and pans, a SUPER COOL outdoor fireplace and a fantastic deck. Trust me, you won't be looking at the floors, you'll be looking at that incredible, ever-changing view. You also have to use a BUNCH of stairs to get in and out of the house. That's how you get so close to the water that you can HEAR the orca before you SEE them pop up 20 feet from where you're standing with a glass of wine. The tram is awesome and helped us schlep in firewood, groceries, and luggage. We brought some Rubbermaid totes and that worked great! It was incredible to feel so close and yet so...isolated! It was magical, other-worldly, and wonderful! The hosts offered us early check-in and late check-out at no extra charge, there were no exorbitant cleaning fees, and everything was exceptionally clean! We saw a variety of birds including heron and wood ducks, otter, and that orca pod just kept circling in front of the house! Marvelous. This was the first time that we have been away from home since the COVID19 pandemic, so we were very happy to find everything so clean and well-considered. The water cooler was convenient, check-in was easy, instructions were clear! We look forward to being able to come again, stay longer, and bring friends next time! Thank you so much!
Loved the uniqueness of the property with a great view. Our stay (a couple of my adult kids and I) were there during a time of cold wind and rain. But we stayed warm playing games and working puzzles together with nice conversations. We all had a great time together.
The property is beautiful and well maintained, the neighbors are nice and friendly. The owner was friendly and answered questions well. We saw Orkas and sea lions from the back patio. We also enjoyed walking down the beach. The house was wonderful and our stay was very comfortable and relaxed.
The location of this property is amazing! We loved being on the patio looking right over the water. We fished right from the beach and also used the rowboat to catch crab and fish. My daughter loved walking the beach down to the bait shop and picking up fresh herring each morning. The neighbors were really friendly and let us know when orcas were swimming by! We left the windows open and could hear the waves on the beach as we slept. The trolley was great to haul our bags up and down and the stairs. I brought extra sheets as noted in a previous review so when we left we simply took ours with us. We will definitely want to come back!
This is one of the best locations Pacific NW has to offer. We crabbed, we clammed (bring your gear), we hiked. We saw orcas, deer, and eagles. We also saw fishermen catching salmon from the shore.. The house has everything you need for a mini vacation. As other reviewers said - the neighbors next door are awesome.
We had an absolutely amazing break at Bruce's wonderful property. We loved the quirky charm of the place such as the trolley (which worked perfectly) to bring your luggage and groceries down to the house. The stairs would not be suitable for everyone, but our family including our 3 year old had no trouble. This was the definition of a socially distanced vacation - we played in the water directly in the front of the house every day by ourselves, only waving to boaters at a distance. Pro tip: You can rent a kayak from Whidbey Kayaking and they will deliver to the boat launch a few houses down from here. We rented a tandem kayak for the day which was a highlight for us and the kids. We saw tons of fish and even some seals down by the point. We are now dreaming of relocating to Whidbey!
This house is right on the water and very peaceful. We were awakened in the morning to eagles and ravens hunting for breakfast and had herons on the nearby beach as well. We even saw a seal a couple of times. This is the perfect place to chill out and enjoy sitting on the deck and listening to waves while sipping on iced tea while the kids fish or search for shells. The fact that my teenagers NEVER turned on the TV the entire trip speaks for itself. The large windows in the living room made you feel right on top of the water day and night, and we were impressed by how well-appointed the kitchen was (it had spices and olive oil and aluminum foil in addition to excellent knives and all the pans you'd need to cook). There is a trolley to bring your luggage up/down a steep six-story flight of stairs from the parking area down to the house and we really appreciated that on the way out. The provided bedding was very nice, but consider bringing your own sheets for the 2Q, 1T beds, as you need to wash everything the morning you leave as part of the checkout process and that means 2 loads of laundry (sheets and towels) before check out at 11. That didn't bother my husband or I much because we are early-risers, but our teens were a bit grumbly. We loved the quirky house built into the hillside and definitely plan on coming back!
My sister and I love coming to this charming home. The owner is very kind and the place is amazingly peaceful!
Great location. We had a wonderful time and hope to be back. Bruce was very helpful and available.
This posession point beach house is a daunting six stories below the parking, so it's good to be physically fit. The dumb waiter helps with luggage. It's all worth it to experience this comfortable house with expansive views and miles of uncrowded beach. We discovered a gray whale skull at the tip. Hamburgers and craft beer are 2 miles away, and Langley has good options about 13 miles away. Also check out the Star Store, especially if you prefer to cook in with gourmet options and enjoy the view.
Beautiful view right outside of seals and stars. The house has everything needed for the weekend. Great place to spend 4th of July. Owner very responsive and helpful.
Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this quaint beach house. The living room and adjoining deck are the crown jewels of the home, with a panoramic view of the water. Down a few steps was the rocky beach where we meandered a good distance each way, collecting small treasures left by the tides. The rest of the inside of the house had vintage carpet and surfaces, but freshly painted walls, and was clean. We came to hike, so the 90+ steps to get back up to the driveway from the house was a happy challenge, and the trolly for luggage and groceries worked great. The owner was very responsive for all questions.
Gorgeous view. Living room is updated and comfortable. Beds are comfortable. Bathrooms and kitchen need update.
Our family really enjoys staying here. We love the fact that you can enjoy fishing, walks and an abundance of wildlife right out in front of the house. On our last trip two orcas cruised by.
We really enjoyed our time at Possession Beach house. We were four adults and we stayed for a week and explored the entire island, which is so picturesque and quaint. Our favorite thing to do though was sit on the deck and watch the fisherman and all the wildlife. We saw dolphins, seals, bald eagles, deer, and one day we had a seal pup crawl up on the beach for the day and rest. We fished for salmon (didnt catch any, but people around us were having some luck) and crabbed every day that we could. We took the advice of some past guests and brought our own sheets because we had to be on an early ferry the day that we left and that was a life saver. We hope to be back to whidby island someday and we will definitely look at this house again. We would love to see how Bruce fixed it up along the way.
Great place to relax and just watch the world go by
The stay was perfect for my small family. Right on the water, friendly neighbors who helped us know when Orcas were swimming by! The tram to move luggage was a lifesaver and made the long 96 steps down from parking bearable. DVD selection, internet connection were excellent. If I had it my way this would be our every-year vacation spot. Do not expect high end furnishings and the TV quality is lacking a little due to age of the screen but who's going there to watch TV, just look out the windows at the incredible views! Remember to read the house rules and expect to plan for some time on your last day making the place ready for the next traveler.
Diamond in the rough, lots of room inside, large decks up and down, kind neighbors, great spot between two parks!
We really enjoyed our time relaxing right on the water. Views were magnificent during the sunny and rainy days we had. The house was equipped with everything that we needed. Really appreciate having the trolley to bring our stuff up and down the steps.
We had an amazing three days and two nights. Cozy accommodations, clean, beautiful views from every angle. Our two boys enjoyed their AM walk on the beach and played for hours...then repeat in the early evening:) There are so many things to do on Whidbey but we were quite content to stay at the house, nestled up, enjoying the peaceful serenity. Thank you, we will be back!!
We enjoyed the view and the peaceful setting.
The interior of the house could really use updating but the location and outdoor patio was wonderful. You are literally on the beach. The stairs up and down may not be for everyone but the tram helps to bring your luggage and coolers down. My only complaint is that linens and towels must be washed, dried and put away. I feel that this should be disclosed upfront in the description of the property (prior to paying a rental fee). The owner was responsive and was quick to reply to my emails.
Nice house as described. Good size for the four of us. Loved watching orcas from the deck one morning! Kitchen furnished many staples which was nice. Trolley for the luggage was very handy! Only suggestion I can make is that before you reserve, you should know that the house needs to be cleaned, sheets/towels laundered, etc before you leave. No problem, but if we had known this in advance we would have paid for two nights instead of three. There is no time to do laundry if you have an early departure planned as we did so we ended up having to leave a day early and renting a motel elsewhere. This should be explained before paying for the reservation. Bruce was very good about answering questions we had ahead of time... but this was one question we didn't know to ask. I would rent again as we had a very nice stay. Cleaning deposit was returned after a couple weeks.
The living room and deck views are amazing!
We loved our stay at the Beach House. We had perfect weather and spent most of our time relaxing on the deck or walking the beach. If you're looking for a fancy upscale place this is not it, but if you want a place to unwind and feel the ocean breezes and watch the tides, you can't go wrong here. Beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen was adequate for most cooking (no muffin tins, though) and equipped with quality pots and pans and sharp knives - hard to find in a rental. We appreciated the coffee maker and the water dispenser with hot, cold, or room temp water. Wifi worked well (also hard to find in a rental) and there was a nice collection of DVDs. My husband is not the type to just sit and relax so he rented a bike for several days and explored the island that way. He also took the rowboat out several times to explore the shoreline. All in all, it was just what we needed.
Great older home...and thank goodness for the trolley...great quiet location.
Great location. Enjoyed the stay despite the rainy weather. We explored Whidbey Island and took advantage of the close location to the Clinton ferry for treks to the mainland. The views from the house were fantastic and the house itself fit our needs. Clean and homey. Would recommend the house for vacation and would stay again.
Will come back again.
The property was great, clean and as described during the reservation process. It's not fancy but it is all you need.
Great stay. Loved the views. House was extremely clean and care was taken to make it warm and welcoming.
Possession point beach house is right on the beach. You and crab and fish (when in season) directly in front of the house. The weather was great and the locals islanders very friendly. A nice family time.
The options for ways to spend your day truly exceeded our time there. We would love to come back some day.
So glad we chose Bruce's rental as we definitely experienced waterfront living at best. We clammed on the beach and fished off the deck on the house. We will definitely be back for the crabbing season!
Two of us arrived to a clean home at waters edge. The next day off the deck was a gray whale taking his time. Lots of glass to enjoy the night view. High tide and water is up to the bulkhead. We had fun.
We had a great stay and look forward to coming back. The house has a lot of character and charm and is great for a small family. If you enjoy crabbing and salmon fishing the beach out front is perfect. We had good success dropping our crab pots between the two buoys in front of the house. The morning sunrises in front of the house are also amazing.
Our family had a great weekend at this charming beach house located in a quiet corner of Whidbey Island. We fished on the beach in front of the house in the morning and caught some nice Coho salmon which we grilled for dinner on the deck, overlooking Puget sound and Mt Baker. A bait shop conveniently located a couple hundred yards down the beach contributed to our success. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes to be on the water and particularly those who like fishing and crabbing right off the beach.
We were blessed to be able to stay here while waiting for our house to close, and instead of feeling stressed about real estate were able to fully relax and enjoy ourselves. This house is wonderful, fun for kids and adults, with lots of things to do - a sweet little grass yard right above the ocean, all the fixings for crabbing and fishing (even a boat!), life jackets, toys for the kids. Lots of steep stairs that require parental supervision (but doesn't everything with small children?) to get down from the car, and a fabulous little trolley to help with the luggage. Bruce was so generous and understanding and helped us turn a hard wait into a fun time. The neighbors are lovely and the scenery too. Seals and eagles and herons kept us company, and we adults enjoyed watching the moon rise over the water. We will be back for sure, thanks again Bruce!!
The home is located right on the beach in Possession Pt. Fishing and crabbing right at your doorstep. Listen to the sound of waves crashing up on the shoreline. The view is spectacular, the weather was perfect.
All the amenities one could ever hope for and the beds/pillows were amazing! The bay is right in front of you and is breath taking. i slept to the sounds of the waves washing up into the shore... Fantastic! Will definitely stay again. There are some flights of steps to get up And down to the beach house but with the freight trolley to take belongings up and down it was a piece of cake and what we called our daily workout. Must visit Deception Pass and the Fort Casey/lighthouse!!!!
My family and I have been going back to the Beach House for 10 years and look forward each summer to our return. Having lived on Whidbey Island as a young child, Bruce's Beach House fills all the requirements for real Island living. This Beach House defines Full Ocean View! If all you did was sit on the deck, eat BBQ, watch the dramatic change of the tides, at times you would think you were on a cruise ship. Take the time to see how many different boats and ships go by and watch the sun rise on the deck and the sun sets reflect off of the main land. Count how many eagles fly over, how many seals come by, see the otters, killer whales and grey whales and porpoises . Want to explore, you have over 1 mile of beach to walk, just keep track of the tides. The Beach House is the only place I can offer an all you can eat crab feast to my family cooked fresh and Bruce provides all I need, the boat and the crab cooker. If you want a real get away to connect with Island Life, book this Beach House and be ready to many return trips.
This is a rustic gem which makes you stop and enjoy how simply beautiful this area is and how life can be when you slow things down and relax. I am from the area but live abroad and my husband and I got engaged whilst enjoying a beautiful waterfront campfire at this location (and we have been back many times since). The property is evolving as it is being upgraded in the off season, but it really has all you need to get away from it all for a beautiful Puget Sound beach-side break. It's amazing to just sit enjoying the views, relaxing by the fire, drinking a glass of wine, and catching/cooking your own crab (my favorite food) makes it even more perfect.
