Murphys Ranch is a welcoming, supremely comfortable ranch – style home with breathtaking views of the Sierras, large outdoor spaces and a private pool. With three bedrooms, three full bathrooms and an additional sleeper it can comfortably accommodate up to eight people.
The living room and dining room have vaulted ceilings and sliding doors that lead out onto a magnificent deck and outdoor pool, there is also an extra room to tuck in to play games or read a book. The newly updated kitchen has plenty of storage, counter space and room to spread out, it is well stocked with pots, pans and utensils so making meals there is a breeze. The dining room table seats a party of 8, outdoor dining table seats 6.
The garage will accommodate two large cars so unloading all the goodies from the local markets is easy breezy.
In the mornings we like to stroll down to the Red Apple Stand at the bottom of the driveway and pick up fresh apple doughnuts and turnovers, fresh from the oven each day but it’s only a 5-minute drive to downtown Murphys for lunch or dinner.
In the summer we lounge by the pool or take advantage of the local lakes & swimming holes, tennis courts and golf, in the fall we love to taste all the newly released wines from the local producers. In the winter we head up 30 miles to Bear Valley for downhill skiing although we hear cross-country is also wonderful around here – we just prefer to get up the hills on a lift :).
We really enjoy exploring the near-by towns, there is so much wonderful history! There is a vibrant music scene and you’ll likely be able to catch a concert at the Iron Horse Winery during your summer visit.

When we were unable to book a hotel in downtown Murphy's, we looked into securing a VRBO and much to our delight found this beautiful property in Forest Meadows - just a short drive to town. The house was immaculate and equipped with everything you could ever use or want! The pool was sparkling and there were numerous umbrellas for shade. We prepared breakfast two mornings and sat outside sipping our coffee on the deck and taking in the gorgeous sunrise. We also sat around the fire pit at night and enjoyed the spectacular star filled nights. It was a girls trip and couldn't have been more perfect. Thank you, Helena. Loved your home and will be back!!!
What a wonderful getaway! The home is great, the view is amazing, and the pool is fantastic! Thank you for a wonderful place that we could get away and relax.
Gorgeous outdoor space - we spent nearly all our time on the deck and in the pool. The indoors is expansive and there’s plenty of room, but it’s pretty dated and the beds aren’t comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked for cooking in. Definitely the star of the show is the outdoor space (and the apple cider donuts down the road). Easy access to Arnold and Murphys, and totally, gloriously private.
This is a great vacation home. Spacious, clean, well equipped kitchen, gorgeous deck and swimming pool. The view is stunning. It was very hot while we were there, in the 90’s, and it was fun to sit outside after dark and watch the moon rise over the hills below. The pool is wonderful and we spent a lot of time swimming. The surrounding deck has lovely chaise lounges and umbrellas. Checkin and out was easy, and Helena is very responsive and helpful. Great TV system, although it took a savvy 13 year old to figure it out. We had a wonderful time.
So peaceful and quiet. Much needed relaxing getaway. The views were amazing. Enjoyed our early morning visits from the deer.
Fantastic property for a group!
The property is absolutely amazing. Very private and peaceful. The layout of the home is great for families or a group of friends with privacy for everyone. Fully stocked, real kitchen (tools, etc). The host is wonderful - friendly and flexible.
We had a super relaxing stay! The beautiful view, expansive deck, being surrounded by nature with a complete lack of neighbors (this seems to be the only house on this large hill) make this an automatic 5-star for us. It was a lovely and easy workout strolling down the private roadway to fetch morning pastries at the apple stand (good to burn a few of those calories on the short hike up!) The house was very clean, and had a completely vintage 70’s-meets-50’s-ranch house vibe. Couches were comfortable; master bed is firm. Helena is a thoughtful and responsive host. Would love to return in warm weather to use that pool with a view!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The home is perfectly 70s vibe (but modern accommodations) and the property is so beautiful. It's secluded but not far from the Main Street. Like others, we loved the apple donuts at the bakery down the road. The only thing I didn't realize was that even though pictured, the hot tub is not for guest use. Like the owner says, it's not listed under accommodations in the listing but the photos are a bit misleading. Even though the days were 80 degrees, the pool was very cold (the kids and I wore our wet suits!) but it's a lovely pool and the deck is so nice to sit out on and drink your morning coffee. The only other thing to note is that there is a video doorbell (brand: Ring). I didn't see notice on the listing that there was a camera doorbell (per VRBO's requirements). So, maybe reach out on your own to the owners if that makes you uncomfortable like it did us. Overall, such a lovely place!
My family & I LOVE this property! Thank you to Helena for being such a great host & very accommodating! The pool and view were such great thing to have over the warm weekend, and the apple stand at the end of the driveway really adds to how much we loved this property.
This property is absolutely beautiful. The house is kept up so well, modern updates where you want them, and preserved finishes that will make you smile. Have your morning coffee and a watch the sunrise over the mountains, and probably get a visit from a family of wild turkeys.
My family and I had a wonderful time at this property self isolating. You feel miles away from everyone but in reality the property is located between the towns of Murphys and Arnold. My kids loved the pool and my husband and I loved the spectacular views. The house has a 70’s decor which we enjoyed. We will definitely be back.
We really enjoyed our stay at the ranch. The house is very secluded with a beautiful view from the deck. Our kids spent hours in the pool every day, and they loved walking down the long driveway to get warm donuts and pastries from the nearby bakery. The house was well-equipped with everything we needed. The house is in a good location for accessing both Murphy's and Arnold. My kids are already asking to go back for another stay!
The views from the back of the house are breathtaking! Gorgeous place to escape for morning coffee or evening wine.
Lovely spot! Great for privacy, mountain views and swimming (pool). The home is comfortable but in need of some light TLC.
The stay couldn’t have been more perfect! The property had everything we needed and was immaculately clean upon arrival. The location, view, and privacy are understated and the pool was an added bonus! Highly recommend the Marion berry jam from the apple store at the bottom of the driveway! We look forward to coming back.
8 of us stayed for Labor Day weekend to celebrate a birthday. Two adults, 6 teen girls. The place was just what we all needed! Views for miles, a spectacular pool, great deck for sun bathing but with a large umbrella for those who wanted some shade. A fire pit to sit in front of and just relax. Pool was a big hit, and it was very clean! Inside held all 8 of us very comfortably. There was no AC so we made things work with the creation of a cross breeze. Only drawback was the floors in the kitchen needing to be mopped (it may have been a while?) but small issue in an otherwise 10+ weekend. Go and enjoy!!
Very nice find pretty close to town. Up on a hill w/ no neighbors nearby. Quiet, spacious and the most beautiful view. Communication was great with the owner. The kitchen had everything we needed for a great stay. The pool was lovely and we spent almost 24/7 in it because it was soooooo hot while we were there. I would definitely rent this place again in the future. Thank you Helena!
Lovely property in the foothills above Murphy, easy drive from the Bay Area but feels very away from it all. The house itself has nice open partially-updated kitchen that opens on to beautiful outdoor space. Deck space and pool all seem recently updated (as of summer 2019) and are definitely the biggest draw for the house. Whether swimming in the pool or hanging by the fire pit you really can't go wrong. A note that as of July 2019 the hot tub was not available to use, which is a bummer, but the pool itself is still great. The interior of the house (bedrooms and bathrooms) are definitely a throwback to the original era of the house (70s) but all spotlessly clean and totally suitable for vacation stays. If you want a great spot to enjoy warm weather outside with the pool, also with lots of fun day trip options (Murphys, Gold Country towns, redwoods, etc.) then this place is hard to beat.
Our group (2 families with kids- two 6 year olds one 2 year old) had a great time at this property even with the weather being less than desirable. Helena was very responsive when we reached out with questions before our stay. The view off the back deck is absolutely spectacular! We would have loved to use the pool/hot tub but cold and rain ruined our plans. We did, however, get to take advantage of the BBQ and the fire pit for smores. The kitchen was fully equipt with all the tools we needed to cook all our meals. It was also nice there was a washer/dryer especially with three young children in our group. It would have been nice if there were more game options but we brought our own Rumicube and card games to keep us entertained during the rainy times.
This was a great house for my husband and I to rent for a post-Christmas get away with our 4 kids. The town of Murphy's is sweet and we had a really good dinner out one night. There is a natural foods store just down the road for items that we forgot to bring. The kitchen is well stocked and we had everything we needed! Hope the pool and hot tub are ready for our next visit!
Great spot for privacy and views. Very accommodating. Could use a bit of updating but clean and has what you need.
This was a wonderful house for our family to spend tie together in. The house has plenty of space, was quiet, peaceful and had incredible views. We hope to stay there again.
The house is comfortable and roomy. The deck/patio area is a wonderful space to relax and enjoy amazing views. The owner was very helpful with any questions we had.
We really enjoyed our stay at this private ranch style home in Murphy's. The house - an amazing, one story layout with room for lots of people. It accommodated 4 couples for our trip and we all felt we had plenty of room. The owners - really easy to communicate with and very responsive throughout the reservation process, check-in and during our stay. The location - you can't go wrong with most quaint towns that dot the Sierra Foothills, but Murphy's has all the charm of the others, plus an amphitheater and lots of wine tasting. Also, the little apple stand at the bottom of the drive was really nice. We walked down with our coffee in the morning and had fresh. homemade apple fritters. Delish. Overall - would highly recommend this house for 2 families with kids or 3-4 adult couples.
My husband and I, along with two other couples spent the weekend here. What a lovely little gem in the hills. The view was wonderful and the home is very, very spacious. The only down side is the driveway. Although we made it up quite easily, had we come on our motorcycles, as originally planned, it would not have been quite as easy. We will return! The owner is very quick to respond with any inquiries.
The house is close to Calaveras big trees state park, town of Murphys, and several caverns. Quyle Kilns pottery is also nearby. A very helpful hostess (reachable and responsive via email) also made the stay enjoyable. Lots of room in the house for a big group!
This ranch was perfect for our long weekend get-away! Plenty of room for 8 adults and room for the kids to roam. The house is just far enough removed to be private, but close enough to all Murphy's has to offer. The view out the back is stunning. The 1970's decor took us all down memory lane. The donuts at the end of the driveway are the best donuts we've ever had. We'll be talking about those for some time! We'll be back soon!
We love the town of Murphys and decided to do a last minute trip. Helena was great about responding quickly and the reservation process was very simple. When we arrived we drove up this private dirt road and came upon this beautiful brick home that overlooked the entire valley. It was breathtaking and we spent most of our time eating on the deck or watching the view from the living room. The home was stocked with everything that we needed during our stay (even had coffee filters!). The home was also very quiet and peaceful as there are no neighbors nearby. We loved our stay and look forward to returning someday!
Place as advertised, very nice space, great outdoors. Views for miles. Nice proximity to Murphys and Bear Valley.
We were the first to occupy this property - a hidden gem on a hill between Murphys and Arnold. This is one huge property with a long driveway. The home itself is a ranch with three bedrooms, a formal room, a family room, as well as a spacious kitchen. We were two families - four adults and four kids in all (two of them college-going and two in high school). The adults ended up spending most of the time in the kitchen (which also has a dining area) while the kids were mostly in the TV room. The kitchen was extremely well stocked in terms of utensils. There was nothing we need have taken. There were plenty of towels and sheets in the house. The heating system works very well - needed in winter!!!! The home has a fabulous view of the valley below - simply stunning! There is a lovely apple stand/store down the hill and downtown Arnold and Murphys are both a short drive away. Phone connections can be spotty so move to the Wifi, thoughtfully provided by the hosts. If you are looking for an older, rustic property albeit with all the amenities - this is the one for you.
We discovered Murphys a couple of years ago when we were looking for a weekend getaway. We fell in love with the area and wanted to come back for a whole week with our family so we asked around and found Murphy's Ranch through friends - what a fantastic house! It's a really beautiful property and it has everything you could want for a family vacation. Great common spaces for catching up indoors or out over a meal, a 60 tv with Dish Network (and several movie channels when we stayed there), wifi and stunning, sweeping views of the Sierra Nevada foothills are just a few of the reasons we loved our time there. Everything feels spacious and comfortable from the beds to the closets to the bathrooms. You have ultimate privacy at this house with no other houses on any side! A short quarter mile walk down the private drive from the house leads to the Red Apple Stand, a small family business left over from another time, where you can buy some of the best homemade apple cider and pie anywhere all made from local apples, not to mention apple strudel, apple donuts, apple fritters, and peach pie. A seven minute drive brings you to the charming small town of Murphys with its four block long Main St. lined with restaurants, a great book store, homemade ice cream, unpretentious wine tasting rooms, and the historic Murphy's Hotel with its great bar and restaurant. We love to play tennis as a family and we found really nice public tennis courts just outside of downtown Murphys. They are in great shape and we never had any trouble getting on them. We look forward to coming back in the winter and trying out the skiing at Bear Valley.
