We'd love to share our home with you! Why stay cramped in hotel rooms when you can come back home every night. Your home away from home, a stone's throw from the Capitol and just steps away from everything Old Town Alexandria has to offer. Spread out in 2600 square feet of well appointed living space on multiple levels. You will look forward to returning home during your stay.
You will love staying in our historic 1850s home on Queen Street just steps away from the center of Old Town Alexandria. Unlike most homes in Old Town, this house is large and spacious, including a private fenced yard and beautiful patio. Park the car in our space, you won't need it here. The large house has been renovated and modernized from top to bottom with gorgeous details throughout -- crown molding, built in bookshelves, exposed brick, working fireplace, full sized stocked kitchen. We live in the nearby suburbs but love staying here and know you will feel like its your home away from home too. A great place to gather your friends and family. Plan your dinner out in Old Town or cook a meal at home in the well appointed full sized kitchen. There is room to spend time together in the large living room, basement family room, or out back on the private patio and yard. Or send the kids to the attic if you need a break.
Perfect for families or groups with plenty of space to spread out in. The house has three bedrooms and has room to sleep 10. Each of the bedrooms has a queen bed, plus there is sleeping for two more in the attic media room, and an additional pull out sofa in the living room. Large comfy finished basement also has TV and room to relax. Clawfoot tubs in the 2 modern full baths, and one additional 1/2 bath. Hard to find in Old Town, is the large fenced yard with beautiful private outdoor patio for you to relax. A great place for a cook out or sitting around the fire pit on a chilly fall night. There is also a playground and basketball court right at the corner.
We are two blocks from King Street, which is the main street through Old Town. Its just a few minute walk to sights, shops, restaurants, and nightlife. If you feel lazy, there is the free Old Town Trolley that goes the length of King Street, stopping at the .waterfront There is a stop every few blocks, just hop on and you can ride down to the waterfront. City Bike rental stations are also nearby. Its easy to go out and enjoy all the great shops, historic sites and restaurants in Old Town.
The metro is also just five blocks away for easy access to downtown DC. We also have off street parking for 2 cars accessed through the alley. The house also has cable, high speed wi-fi internet, and laundry.
We're looking forward to sharing our home with you.
Please be considerate of the house and furnishings, as this is our home too. Also please no smoking inside, use coasters with your drinks. Guests will be responsible for any damages. Please let us know if anything in the house needs attention, we want you to enjoy your stay.
The pictures do not do this place any justice. Great location and well taken care of home. The owners have thought of everything. Great communication.
Our family of 7 loved staying at Don and Jaki’s property. The house was sparkling clean when we showed up. We had plenty of room to spread out. The spacious yard, rare for Old Town Alexandria, was a big hit with our kids as was the impressive DVD collection. The entire house was well stocked with everything we needed and more. Don and Jaki were a pleasure to work with and very responsive to any questions we had. The house is in the perfect location, within easy walking distance to the metro and everything Old Town has to offer. This isn’t just another vacation rental- it is a well loved and meticulously cared for house and we really felt comfortable and at home. Our family made wonderful memories here and I highly recommend this property.
It felt like a home away from home. Our family was able to settle in and staying there felt more like living there. The amenities and furnishings were essentially what we would have needed at home. And Jaki and Don wanted to make sure everyone enjoyed the area by leaving all sorts of resources, e.g., books, metro cards, lists of great restaurants nearby...just what we would have done had our friends stayed at our place.
Perfect for family.
The property was as advertised. Lots of space for 5 adults. Kitchen was very functional as were the other appliances. Only somewhat negative comment involves the second floor shower in that the water pressure was low and it was difficult to regulate the water temperature. Outside of that we enjoyed the neighborhood and found it easy to get around on foot and by car-once we got used to the one way streets! Thank you for all the pamphlets on Alexandria which were a great help in planning our time. We would certainly recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in old town.
Loved this property. We stayed with our three adult daughters and one son-in-law. There was plenty of room for everyone. One daughter stayed in the attic/media room and it was a very comfortable fourth bedroom. The home is very well equipped and we even took advantage of the great DVD selection for a bit of down time. The location is fantastic. We were able to walk to our favorite spots in Old Town. Thanks for sharing your property with us!
No issues whatsoever. We enjoyed our stay.
Gorgeous, comfortable home within easy walking distance of King Street and everything Alexandria and DC have to offer. The house was immaculate and well-stocked and the hosts were wonderful and accomodating - even calling before our arrival to see if we had any questions. The Ethiopian restaurant next door is also amazing. My kids wanted to go back every night. I would recommend this VRBO to anyone coming to the area and hope to return myself sometime soon.
The communication between me and the owners was excellent. Our stay at the house was great, the house was exceptionally clean and stocked with all your basic needs. The house was roomier than we actually thought from the pictures. Everything was close by on King St., parking was a plus and easy access to everything. We would like to book again in the future.
Location was perfect with a few blocks to king street and a playground on the corner. House was clean and in excellent condition with a finished attic and basement, loads of room for 7 adults and one child. We had a wonderful bbq in the back yard with lots of fun and room to run around. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a home away from home.
My entire family had a great time staying a week a the house. The property was very accommodating to have large family/friends gatherings yet also allowed us to spread out and have individual time. The patio area was where we spent our early morning coffee, with a beautiful canopy of trees and lots of birds and squirrels. A short two blocks away on King street you can experience all of Alexandria with lots of shops and restaurants. Be sure to check out the old torpedo factory at the bottom of King street at the waterfront. A lot of neat artists in that building where you can pick up a small piece of unique art to take home. We all commented throughout the week that we just loved the quaintness of the little house. It's an older home, but recently remodeled beautifully and updated to take advantage of the quaintness. Take note, there are no bedrooms on the main floor, so stairs down to a bedroom, or stairs up to the remaining 2 bedrooms and loft. There is a bathroom right off the kitchen which turned out to be a perfect location!! The beds really slept great, having a washing machine was awesome, and the bathroom layout was just perfect. The kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, silverware, glasses, etc, cooking in the kitchen was easy and we did it a lot. The location was central enough to experience the city life yet just off the beaten path enough that the neighborhood was quiet each night where we all got a good night sleep. Having the ability to park two cars at the back of the house off the alley was extremely useful and we used it throughout our stay. The grocery stores are a little far away to walk with any large amount of groceries, so plan to uber or have a car available in some fashion. We went back to Trader Joe's & Harris Teeter (seemed to be the best) many times throughout our stay for additional groceries. We loved the kitchen and chose to cook in more than eat out ;>). The owners are very easy going and pleasant to talk with or text. Again very accommodating and great place to stay and have family time.
The house is even nicer than the photos! Fantastic neighborhood so close to restaurants and shops but in a quiet area. Jaki & Don responded immediately to questions. House well stocked. Try the Ethiopian restaurant next door. Fabulous!
We had a great Memorial Day Weekend in Alexandria. Don and Jaki's home was very clean, well laid out and had many small details that made enjoying the weekend easy-peasy. Their home is well located and an easy walk to most locations in Alexandria. We especially enjoyed the Farmers Market on Saturday.
This house was stellar! The backyard is incredible and there is plenty of common space for your family or group to be together to talk. The kitchen and bathrooms were immaculate and they had the most amazing clawfoot bathtubs! The home had plenty of fresh linens and the rooms were all decorated beautifully. Would definitely stay here again!
We really enjoyed our stay in Old Town. Location and house was perfect for our two families. House was very clean, nice decorated and had everything we needed. Spacious backyard was an extra bonus! We hope to stay there again in the future.
We had a great time in Old Town and DC. We loved having such a beautiful house to come home to after a long day of exploring. Would highly recommend this home to another family looking for some space to breath outside of DC. :-)
Comfortable, convenient, spacious and well appointed. Our best vacation rental to date! We loved staying at this house for our family spring break. It comfortably held our family of 5 and was super convenient for doing DC, MT Vernon, the air and space annex at Dulles, and Bull Run. We loved our quick walk to King street for dinners out a wee bit of shopping and a trip through the apothecary museum. The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. We ate all of our morning meals and a few dinners at the house. Thanks so much for sharing this lovely home!
We booked this house for a work trip. It was conveniently located right near King Street which has several restaurants and shops. Everything was clean and tidy. The house had everything we needed for our week in Alexandria. We hope to stay again!
This is the 5th house we have rented and I have not been disappointed. We needed to have a place for the family to stay for a wedding in Alexandria. The house in old town was perfect. Great site to walk to downtown, easy in and out access to get to the wedding site at Mt Vernon, easy PARKING!!!! clean, well kept up, lots of space for all of the family and a beautiful outside area. Thanks to the hosts for allowing us to have such a great stay for a momentous day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house worked out perfect for us, a party of 6 adults and an infant. The pack-n-play worked perfectly for a crib. What a wonderful location, walking distance to coffee shops, restaurants and stores. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed to make a snack or full coarse meal. All in all a great house and vacation for our family.
Dan and Jaki's house in Old Town is a great place centrally located in Old Town. The entire house is in excellent shape and is very well stocked. This is not like many rentals which are kept in basic shape and with basic amenities. This is like staying at your friends place. The rooms are all very comfortable and my kids loved the separate loft upstairs and bedroom/living area downstairs. Close to all of Old Town, easy walk to the Metro, lots of games, books, movies supplied at the house, a very nice and comfortable place to stay. A great value as well!
The photographs, while beautiful, cannot convey just how fabulous and well-appointed a vacation venue this Queen St. house really is. The hosts plainly pay meticulous attention to every detail, and it shows in every room. Our crew of six adults and twin 8 year old boys was fully and easily accomodated. The fully-equipped kitchen and neighboring dining room, as well as the BBQ grille and full patio, were great places to have a home-cooked feast on the night that we decided to "eat in". Sealing the deal is the fact that the house is just two short blocks from King St., which is Old Town Alexandria's main street, and is also an easy walk fron the D.C. Metro station. When next we go back to D.C., we will definitely be booking a return visit in this lovely house. Best place we ever have stayed in!!!
This beautiful home was exactly what we were looking for. We had two families together in the home and there was plenty of space for all 9 of us. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
We had a great time in the D.C. area. We really enjoyed staying in Alexandria. The house is beyond comfortable and is a nice, easy walk to King Street Metro Station. The McCarthy’s were quick to answer any questions we had and very pleasant to speak with on the phone. Would stay again if in the area.
We all loved this home! We were delighted to find that that the home was "top of the line." Just perfect. Very, very spacious, immaculate home. Everything the other reviewers say is true. We came for four days for our daughter's wedding. We enjoyed the outside patio and yard every day. We had a welcome bbq one night and a cocktail party another night. Everyone raved about the home. The owners are responsive and very gracious. Well located for walking to King Street and Metro. The two parking spaces that came with the house are a real plus when you drive in from out of state. We will come again! Thank you.
We had a great time in this lovely house in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, VA — the property is the perfect combination of history and modern convenience — owners welcoming and informative, everything sparkling, the spacious, private backyard was a rare plus — thanks for a great VRBO experience!
Would choose this house again and again.... We came up to celebrate a weekend with friends to have fun in the city and enjoy the nightlife. Jaki told me that all would be taken care in regards to home needs and in the best way possible this was almost an understatement!!!! They provided everything we needed from kitchen sponges, to bath soaps, and other traditional house needs, all the way to firewood and corn hole boards. The house was very comfortable and our hosts, not living too far away, told us to reach out if we needed anything - Class-A Treatment!!!! We will definitely use HomeAway again and if Jaki and Don's home is available it is our first choice!! #1!
We had a family of 6 adults and two children. Space was good. Owners included lots of incidentals which was great!
Well appointed, gracious hosts, comfortable, elegant, central location, all u hope for, and more! Bj
This home served us extremely well for our long weekend in Alexandria. We were here for a family wedding, and were joined by our three adult children, their spouses and one grandchild. The house is spacious, well appointed and nicely furnished. We found it very comfortable and the location was great. We could walk to the wedding events, the riverfront and lots of restaurants, shops, etc. The patio and outdoor space was wonderful and allowed us to enjoy the great weather. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone seeking lodging for a group of the apprpriate size.
I can't say enough about how prefect this house was for our needs! It was immaculately clean when we arrived, and the decor is a lovely mix of modern and old charm. We had a large group of seven women, and we all slept comfortably. The owner provided everything we needed for our stay. In addition to the comfortable feeling of this home, it also has an enclosed backyard with lots of seating and potted plants. It was a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy morning coffee or a glass of wine later in the evening. Our whole party raved about this house! The owners seem like lovely people and responded instantly to any questions we had. I would highly recommend renting this home for your stay in the Alexandria or D.C. area!
We spent our time in Old Town for my step daughters wedding. This house allowed space for my family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids) my sister in laws family of four (2 adults 2 kids) my father in law and a babysitter stay in the house comfortably. Having the yard and playground across the street gave the kids a place to run around in between family events. We did not do much by way of touristy things, but we were able to enjoy many of the local restaurants within easy walking distance. We did also do a boat tour to georgetown on our last day that left from the end of king street. Also, it was an inexpensive uber ride into the city... for those who might not want to take the metro which was just a few blacks away. But I cannot stress enough how great this house was. Spacious, clean, and had everything we needed stocked (except the food of course). Don and Jacki both were very nice and good to work with, assuring us that they were not far if we needed something (which we did not). I would certainly book this place again if our travels took us back to DC/Old Town. Margo
Lovely home, exactly as described, in immaculate condition. Very tastefully renovated but retaining lots of historic charm. Well equipped and very spacious for an older row house. Location is perfect to visit old town and Washington DC. Hosts were very helpful and flexible with check in and check out, a bonus for travellers flying in from the UK. We would not hesitate to recommend this property or rebook it should we return.
Great place to stay! It was well eqippped and an easy walk to the metro to see D.C. sites. On top of that Alexandria itself is great to explore and has fabulous restaurants
This house provided the perfect location. Great restaurants and shopping were within walking distance. We had a rental car, but didn't use it all that much. We were there to visit our son who recently moved to the D.C. area. Six of us slept quite comfortably. We very much enjoyed the backyard while enjoying long discussions over wine. The Street Metro station is a short walk for those who don't want to obtain a rental car. This home is beautiful. We would definitely come back and stay at this property.
This house was absolutely perfect for my family's celebration of my med school graduation. Four of us were able to sleep comfortably (more could have stayed comfortably as well), and there was room for guests to visit in the wonderful outdoor space. I live in the area and can confidently stay that yards this large are few and far between in Alexandria. The house has everything you could need to host a few friends (grill, fire pit, kitchenware) and Don and Jaki could not have been more helpful. I would love to stay here again, and would absolutely recommend this house!!!
Our family of six greatly enjoyed four nights in this historic house. Everything was beautifully clean, well planned, and carefully maintained. We appreciated the laundry room, the ironing board, the condiments in the kitchen, the enticing bookshelves, and the generous patio with its table, grill and extra chairs. The house is very close to the best restaurants in Alexandria plus a great massage studio, coffee shop, and antique shop. We were able to walk to my nephew's wedding at Christ Church. The owners were helpful and accommodating. They obviously love the area and try hard to make sure their guests like it, too.
We enjoyed the backyard and patio, a well equipped kitchen, and clean and comfortable rooms. We also enjoyed being able to walk to restraunts and shops. It was an awesome weekend! Thanks!
We LOVED our stay in Alexandria. The house is homey, yet not at all cluttered with things for children to fuss with. The location is close to everything we needed especially a cute playground for our grandkids. We felt at home immediately with the layout and amenities/supplies. Great weather let us spend lots of time in the backyard patio. TERRIFIC HOME AWAY FROM HOME.
Immaculately maintained and clean townhouse with very nice amenities. Plenty of comfortable furniture with spacious den and nice dining area. Kitchen had everything needed for meals. Bedrooms were very nice. Parking was convenient. Side and Back yard were also well kept. A very pleasant family experience staying there. In a very good location to things in Alexandria. Only small nits - slight problem with wifi, door hinges need oil and mattress in downstairs bedroom was overly soft. Would gladly book there again.
Great location . Car not needed for this property rental... Olde Towne is a great walking town with fabulous stores, restaurants etc ... the King Street Metro station is a 10 minute walk for those who want to explore Washington DC. The property owners Don and Jaki were so hospitable . Their home is beautiful .!we definitely recommend this property
Great location. Lovely home. Very comfortable with plenty of room to spread out. The weather did not cooperate but we would have loved trying out the fire pit & enjoying the nice backyard!
This house was perfect for our out-of-town wedding guests to gather. The kitchen was well stocked with everything from oil to spices and enough cookware. We prepared full meals for our group and enjoyed the main kitchen, dining and living room as shared space but then still had the multi-story layout that provided privacy. Only small complaint is that there were multiple TV's but no radio and the bathroom in the kitchen is weird. Overall though it was an amazing house, well maintained, excellent customer service, close to Metro and shops on King Street and we would highly recommend to others.
With two kids in college, one a freshman at William and Mary and the other out on the west coast, we decided to all fly out east to pick up our W & M kid and have a holiday celebration in Williamsburg, Alexandria and DC. This Queen St home was comfortable, spacious, well appointed, and perfectly located for exploring wonderful and historic Alexandria, as well as catching the metro to DC. WiFi, Netflix, DVDs, books galore, plenty of board games...lots to keep us entertained in the time we were just hanging out in the house. Off street parking is an added bonus and convenience that was greatly appreciated. The owners are wonderful and very accommodating hosts, and we couldn't have asked for a better place for our family to celebrate Thanksgiving together. It was the perfect home away from home, and we would highly recommend staying here.
We are 8 childhood friends who get together for a long weekend without kids and husbands once a year. The house was spacious yet cozy. We loved the accents the home offered as well as the fully equipped kitchen, plenty of linens and towels, and great outdoor space. The weekend was wonderful - the house is close to all the shops, transit and trolley. We loved exploring Washington DC and the downtown area. Thank you for another wonderful weekend!!!
We loved staying in this house. We came from Texas and St. Croix, VI and from Frankfurt and Berlin, Germany for a wedding in Washington DC and a reception in Alexandria. The house was big enough for all of us to have privacy and in a wonderful location for everything we needed. We had a wonderful time getting to know each other and blend our families
Conveniently located, well appointed. Very responsive Owner. Highly recommend for an Old Town visit.
I rented the house for my out-of-town family to stay at for my wedding at nearby Mount Vernon. Don and Jaki were great to work and very accommodating. The house was very clean, welcoming, comfortable, and well stocked with basic cooking supplies (oil, salt, pepper, etc) and cooking utensils. I had family arriving early from out of the country and they allowed us to do an early check-in. I also requested their permission to host a small rehearsal dinner at their home and they were able to accommodate. It was a perfect, intimate setting for two families to meet for the first time. The house is in a great location - within walking distance to King Street and the grocery store. And to top it off, there was an adorable backyard with plenty of seating for everyone to enjoy. Thanks Don and Jaki for a wonderful stay and being such great hosts!
This was the PERFECT place for our family for a long weekend. Every single family member couldn't get over the meticulous details of the home (inside and out). We made meals (they had EVERY possible thing we would need) and then we enjoyed dinner and drinks on the patio in such a beautiful setting... they even had perfect lighting when it got darker and candles to keep the mosquitos away! Everyone kept complimenting me on my choice for our stay (telling me how awesome the towels were, and comfy their beds were). Thank you so much Jaki and Don!! So fun to have such a warm and inviting place to relax with my family for such a special occasion!! We will be back!
Got the house for my daughters wedding as a base camp. We had a bar b q in the back yard 2 nights before the wedding. The back yard was awesome. We had between 25-35 at any one time. Then used it for bridesmaids before they moved into Hotel Monaco. Guests came and went the whole weekend and everyone enjoyed the close location to the hotel. Don and Jaki were very flexible and even made sure we had enough gas for our Bar b q. House is well stocked and we were in need on nothing. With enough concerns for a wedding this was not one of them. Great ambiance! Great for entertaining and just an all round great place!! Thank you Don and Jaki and your house will be forever in our memories of our only daughters wedding.
We had a wonderful time visiting Alexandria and DC, and our trip was greatly enhanced by where we stayed. This home is beautiful, and conveniently located in Old Town. We had 6 adults and 4 children, and there was enough space for everyone. The kids enjoyed having 4 levels to explore, plus the nice fenced-in side yard. The owners also provided many extras throughout the house, including books, movies and games! We highly recommend this home if you're visiting Alexandria.
This house is beautiful. It had everything we needed to make the weekend a great little getaway for my family and our friends. We had plenty of room in the house, especially the kids, who took over the basement and the loft. The back patio was a perfect spot for our morning coffee, and evening drinks. Jaki and Don are terrific hosts, who are very responsive, and have thought of everything to provide their guests while staying in their home. Thank you again for making our stay in Old Alexandria and Washington DC very enjoyable. We had an awesome weekend.
Central location in Old Town was wonderful - we were able to walk, trolley or metro wherever we needed to go. The home was beautiful and very comfortable to spend time in. We cooked meals, sat on the patio and really enjoyed our time here. Everything was clean and well-maintained and the owner was very responsive. We especially enjoyed the Ethiopian restaurant on the corner by the house, they helped us create a large takeout order for those of us who weren't familiar with the cuisine. I would definitely recommend.
This beautifully appointed home was the setting for a family get together. It simply could not have been more perfect. Everything about this house beckons you to rest, relax and enjoy. The enclosed backyard provided a safe area for the children to run and play with frisbees. The lovely patio was an opportunity for adults to just sit and reconnect after dinner. Local restaurants abound, access to the metro and DC is easy and the children loved the trolley rides (free) after dinner to the Alexandria waterfront and ice cream treats. Don and Jaki have literally thought of everything it takes to make a stay in their home a memorable one. I know we all want to return soon. Margaret Magnani
The photos do not do this home justice!!! The home has plenty of room for a large group of travelers and everything you could possibly need for a family gathering! The home is 4 floors with plenty of private space for everyone. For those not familiar with the area, parking is a premium and there are two parking spaces in an alley behind the house which was priceless and plenty of parking on the street for additional visitors. Our party spent most of our free time sitting outside on the patio which is beautifully decorated with plants and lights. There is a large side yard with a new privacy fence where we hosted additional family and friends for an outside bar-b-que and had plenty of room. The kitchen and bathrooms were fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. For those with insomnia, there is a television in every bedroom and the kitchen. One evening we stayed inside and watched a movie in the basement family room and the surround sound was outstanding. Two blocks to the free trolley which takes you to the waterfront stores, bars, and eateries or to the metro at King Street. Walking distance to many stores and eateries. Inside the hutch in the dining room is every brochure, map, and guide you would need for touring the greater Washington, D.C. Area. Several members in our party had never been to the DC Area so we spent our days touring in DC and our nights partying in Olde Town Alexandria. The owner greeted us upon check-in and was just a phone call away for anything we needed. The home was spotless upon our arrival. Our party discussed our review while having coffee on the back patio our last morning prior to check-out and couldn't think of anything negative to say about this home. When planning a trip to Washington DC area, please consider this home!!!
Our family had a wonderful and memorable stay at this lovely townhome. Well stocked with all the comforts of home. Highly recommend.
This house worked out perfectly for our family of eight adults and one child. Plenty of beds, sleeping spaces, bedding, towels and bathrooms to accommodate all comfortably with spares left over just in case. Kitchen was very well stocked, with gadgets in easy reach. Was able to make two pots of soup at the same time. Plenty of books and games, yard games, gas grill, fire pit, potted herbs. Every possible need has been thought of. Easy access to Metro Blue line, King Street restaurants and activities and local grocery stores. Very conveniently located and a quiet neighborhood as a bonus. We used the house as a place for family to stay while attending a funeral at Arlington, and we were given permission to use the house for a gathering after the ceremony. Very convenient and some of the guests that attended liked the house so much they may be renting it in the future. We are trying to think of a reason to come back again ourselves. Can't say enough good things about our stay, thank you Don and Jacki.
Our family enjoyed a long weekend in Alexandria at this very comfortable and accommodating home close to Old Town and all it has to offer. We were there for a military burial at Arlington and needed lots of bedrooms for extended family. The house worked perfectly. The kitchen is especially nice and I did want to use it more, but we only did breakfast in. We did not have children at this location, but it is a comfortable home for children with really two TV areas to use. The two car parking is the most important part as parking in Alexandria is difficult. We would definitely choose this home again.
My family and I recently spent our Spring Break staying at this gorgeous home in Alexandria, VA while touring Washington D.C., and the surrounding areas. What was so nice about this house was when we weren't busy hustling and bustling around to museums and monuments, we could relax here in the backyard while the kids played and ran around. We ate dinner almost every night in the backyard, even enjoyed a fire in the fire pit most nights. The proximity to King Street and the trolley were wonderful, it made it very easy to leave the car parked and just enjoyed what Alexandria had to offer. There were 4 adults and 3 children in our group (Ages 5, 8 & 9) and we all fit very comfortably and really enjoyed everything this home had to offer. I would like to mention also that the house and kitchen were stocked with most necessities (a few spices, paper goods, a lot of odds and ends that make a home stay that much more enjoyable). My family and I hope we are lucky enough to stay at this beautiful home for another vacation.
We stayed here twice this winter/spring for a memorial service in Fairfax and then burial at Arlington Cemetery. 15 minutes from Reagan Airport made all the pickups and drop offs very easy for the extended family. 20-25 minutes from Arlington cemetery. The hosts were very helpful and flexible as we got hit with a snow storm the first time and had odd arrivals each time. We enjoyed walks into Old Town and to the Masonic Temple. The beautiful home was very comfortable and relaxing - and with rooms on three floors (as well as living room fold out couch) there was a lot of privacy - the littlest could go to bed early or nap downstairs in the room off the rec room. Grocery stores near by. The kitchen was well supplied with some essentials so it was easy to cook as well as do delicious take out from the Hawwi Ethiopian restaurant next door (we did a buffet for 13 relatives on short notice). The three queen beds (basement and 2nd floor) were great for the older generation. The top floor futon (sharing the bathroom on the 2nd floor) and the fold out couch worked best for the 30-somethings on our most crowded nights. The children loved the yard and the games in the cabinets. There was an inflatable bed we didn't use. We brought a kid travel bed. We aren't TV people, but there were lots of videos for others... The linens were fresh, the towels fluffy. With extra stools, we got 10 around the table. Perfect for a very large group.
Don and Jaki's home is large and filled with everything you might need to make your stay easy and comfortable. In addition to being spotless, it was large enough to easily accommodate our party of seven. The home is conveniently located to all tourist attractions in D.C. and Virginia. We really appreciated the offstreet parking, since we rented a van to tour with our large party. We also took the Metro, which is just a few blocks away. If you want to cook, the kitchen has everything you might need for meals, simple or complex. We bought groceries and carry outs from the Whole Foods located a few blocks away. We also enjoyed two family dinners at a couple of of Alexandria's many wonderful restaurants within walking distance. The home also has plenty of interesting books and videos as well as televisions in the bedrooms and common areas for time spent at "home." We have enjoyed VRBOs around the world and Don and Jaki's home is truly the best of them.
The house is just what it says and more. Nicely laid out, fully furnished, great outdoor space too. Easy walking distance to most everything. Landlord near by if you need help or have questions. We were just delighted! Gem!
We used this property for a family get together. It accommodated four adults and two children very well along with local guests. The home is beautifully finished and furnished. We were able to relax and spend time with family. We will definitely use it again. We look forward to using it in the summer time when we can use the wonderful outdoor patio and yard. It is well located for local activities in Alexandria and the entire DC area. The owners, Don and Jaki, were very helpful and accommodating hosts.
We had a challenge - find a lovely home-away-from-home for 10 of us (6 audults, 4 kids) in Alexandria or Arlington for a few nights while we were in town for a funeral. This home was perfect for us! Not only was it beautiful, clean, and well stocked with the basics we'd need to move in for the weekend, the hosts were gracious and available, and the location was perfect. Metro accessible and easy walking distance within Old Town, the off street parking was a welcome bonus because we didn't have to drive everywhere.
Excellent would be the rating. Don and Jaki were perfect hosts. We just got home and are ready to go back, could not have been more pleased with the house. The eight of us had plenty of room and the outside space was a bonus - with terrific weather we could relax after sightseeing in DC and Alexandria. We did not travel by car so the Metro is very easy to walk, the neighborhood is very nice. Alexandria has many shops and restaurants on King Street, not to be missed. We did enjoy the Potamac Waterfront as well. We would highly recommend.
This house in Alexandria was absolutely perfect for our group of 6 adults. Great location in the heart of old town Alexandria and an easy walk to the DC metro. On the days we did not go into DC we explored Alexandria, and took it easy in the delightful back yard patio. The house was immaculate and had every amenity you could want. The photos don't do it justice, it is larger and nicer than it looks in the pictures. Don and Jaki were so helpful and welcoming, the list of restaurants they left us was a nice touch.
We had a wonderful stay. It's a fantastic home and Don was extremely nice and welcoming. The house is beautiful and perfect for a family or group of people. Conveniently located and perfectly furnished, I couldn't recommend it more!
We stayed in the house as a home base for my sister's wedding at Hotel Monaco. Don and Jaki were so accommodating and their home made us feel at home for our out of town event. We had many guests visiting for the weekend and everyone was so impressed by the size, detail, cleanliness and upkeep of the home. In fact a few might rent the home again for a separate getaway! The home was large enough for us to stay, entertain, prepare the wedding flowers and host a BBQ. Even the wedding photographer was thrilled with the home and the light it provided for the photos! The home was truly the home base for the weekend and we couldn't have pulled off such a lovely wedding weekend without it. We HIGHLY recommend both the property and Jaki/Don. Thanks for a wonderful weekend - we will send pictures when we get them from the photographer!
Beautiful house in an excellent location. We had a gathering of friends to celebrate my retirement and they raved about the place. The kids loved playing and sleeping in the loft. I would definitely recommend this for families and would stay here again!
Lovely remodeled home in Old Town short walk from great restaurants and shopping. Well stocked kitchen and beautiful backyard and patio with grill. Perfect place for families or small groups looking for a comfortable place to stay just outside DC. Ample parking both on the street and in the back alley.
This is the 15th house we have rented since 2004 using VRBO and it was the best. People I know ask me if I took pictures when I tell them how great it was. I tell them to go to the website it is exactly like that. The TV's in all rooms, sharp knives, plenty of daily neccessities available, great back yard, close to metro, close to grocery stores and the waterfront activities were the top of the list. We had a range of age group with my older Sister and mid-20's Son but we were all in agreement about how great this house is. I look forward to staying there again since it was such a great place.
We were a group of eight ladies from Texas who came to Washington DC to attend the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the Daughters of the American Revolution at their Continental Congress, and to do a little site seeing in the DC area. The house was wonderful, fully accommodating a large group of ladies. The multiple floors made it easy to spread out and we never felt cramped like we would have in a hotel room. The furnishings were very attractive and the decor was elegantly appointed throughout the house. The kitchen was well stocked and we found the Trader Joe Grocery a fantastic place to get snacks, meals, etc. Wish we had one close to us in Texas. The bus and metro were very close and the walk was very pleasant. We never felt threatened. In fact, the people we talked to on the bus, metro, and in the neighborhood were all very friendly and ever so helpful. This was definitely a good choice for our stay and we would all stay here again in a heart beat. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your charming home.
Our multi generation family stayed at this beautiful home for a long weekend to celebrate our daughter's graduation from American Universtiy. The home was spacious, beautifully decorated, included thoughtful amenities and allowed ample space for everyone from grandparents to an active 12 year old to feel right at home. We did plenty of cooking, including twice barbecuing in the backyard, and had all the space and equipment we needed. Our son loved the extensive DVD collection, and we enjoyed the books in the home on local history and places of interest. Old Town Alexandria was walking/trolley distance, and we enjoyed several sites there vs. the traditional DC sites, which we have already visited several times before. The owners were very helpful and supportive, we would recommend this spot to anyone!
This is an absolutely lovely home! We hosted family gatherings in the home and back yard (which was lovely), it was a close and beautiful walk to 2 Metro stations, and Old Town was very convenient. We did not need a car at all. The house was tastefully decorated and felt very warm and comfortable. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were a beautiful blend of old charm and modern amenities. The kitchen was very well stocked; it felt like a home. Would recommend this home in a heartbeat!
Your home was the perfect place for our whole family to relax after a day of sightseeing in D.C. Thank you! The kids (all 5 of them) loved that they each had a T.V. in their room. You have thought of everything to make guests comfortable. I love to cook and this is the first home rental that actually made me feel pampered in the kitchen. :) It was too cold for the back patio, but otherwise we would have enjoyed that as well.
We'd a great time in your house! There was enough space for all off us. We loved the kitchen, the bathroom, the fenced backyard - everthing! I could highly recommend this house! We drove all day with the car, so I can't say anything about the busses or metro. We traveled with kids aged 13 years , 4 years and 18 month and with grandma and grandpa. There wasn't enough time to discover all of Alexandria and Washington D.C. - so we will come back definitely!
This historic home has just the right blend of history and modern convenience. We loved the original brick walls and antique staircase. We also loved the modern bathrooms and kitchen. Very tastefully done! The house was very warm and comfortable for our family of 3 couples. Great location; just 2 blocks over from the King Street Trolley and the heart of Old Town, we didn't even need a car to get around. We could Everyone want to go back!
