Welcome to the Garden Suite at Second Street Cottages!
The Garden Suite is located just two blocks from the center of Ashland, including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Theaters, delightful shops, and unique restaurants and art galleries.
It is one of two separate suites at Second Street Cottages: a turn-of-the-century home, now completely renovated as a travelers' accommodation. It is located on a lovely, quiet residential street in the historic Railroad District. We welcome guests to spacious, fresh rooms and wonderful outdoor space.
The Garden Suite:
-2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps up to 5 people
-living room, dining area
-deck and patio
-in-unit washer and dryer
The Garden Suite has all the amenities: spacious rooms, hardwood floors, finely-appointed furnishings, TV/DVD player, free WiFi, and central air conditioning.
Likewise, the Garden Suite has it's own private entrance, deck table and chairs for outdoor dining - as well as casual seating on the patio.
Please note there are security cameras installed on the exterior of the property.
Second Street Cottages also has a charming 4 bedroom/3 full bathroom unit: The Heritage Suite. It can be seen at VRBO listing #737903. Although the two suites are independent units, they can be rented together at the same time (depending upon availability). Please call for availability of a one night reservation. We are happy to accommodate if possible.
Fees and charges are established based on occupancy. Additional charges will apply for any additional guests staying at the property (incl. children).
Stayed her with my wife and 2 daughters and enjoyed walking to everything.
Great spot. Perfect for walking to town and finishing bike rides
Spacious and clean place to stay. There were 5 adults and we were perfectly happy.
Sugar made it very sweet.
The Host, Sugar, is amazing. So nice and very responsive. I’ve stayed in many VRBO properties and this was one of the best. Well equipped, great outdoor space, nicely furnished, comfy beds. Great choice for a visit to Ashland
My husband, my daughter and I had a great long Mother’s Day weekend at the Garden Suite Cottage. The house was very cosy, just the right size for the three of us! We cooked all our meals in with no problems. Sugar was a very kind hostess, even supplying the adult beverage for our Mother’s Day dinner! We would definitely recommend this property!
This place was a lovely retreat during a time of smokiness from fires in the area. It was at once very central and very quiet, considering its central location. The capacious front porch was a definite plus--I spent a good deal of my time there. The kitchen was well-equipped and the living space very nice. We did have some communication issues early on that were due to some communication confusion between the property manager and VRBO as well as complications associated with fires in the area, but once we got past that everything went beautifully.
We chose the Garden Cottage because of the 2 bedroom / 2 bath configuration as it allowed us to share with a very dear couple. We were both celebrating our 45th wedding anniversaries. The cottage was cozy and provided the amenities that we needed. The only hiccup was outside the control of the owner and that was the wildfires that put us in a stage 1 & 2 evacuation and the associated dense smoke. The owner stopped by and called to ensure we were okay and to keep us updated to the situation. We will certainly consider this cottage again should we chose to return to Ashland.
Overall excellent impression of the cottage! We stayed here after a long drive and it could not have been easier to check in. The cottage is lovely and there is parking right outside the front door. Very easy access to bring suitcases in from the car. Nice kitchen set up but there are also many wonderful restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance. Also within walking distance to a nice grocery store. While OSF was not running due to COVID during our stay, this would be a fantastic place to stay to walk to the festival. Highly recommend!
Perfect location! Cottage was lovely :) We will be back! ~ Dee
this is a very cute place near downtown and a few blocks from the awesome food coop. Internet was weak, which was an issue for our kids trying to stream. The inside is beautifully appointed, but the outside spaces could use a bit of the same attention to detail to make them more comfortable. All in all a really nice place, if a bit overpriced.
Cozy, clean, comfortable. Walking distance to everything we wanted. No issues at all. On my next return to Ashland I’ll be staying at the same place. Sugar, thank you for everything.
This is a great cottage with wonderful outdoor space. It is very clean and comfortable. Great location, can walk to downtown restaurants and market.
Meets all expectations!
We rented the cottage with another couple and all four of us were very comfortable. The cottage was spotless and beautifully appointed. We appreciated the privacy of the bedrooms and bathrooms and availability of outdoor areas. Absolutely a perfect location. We loved the walkability.
We always stay here when we come to Ashland and know the place is terrific. We love our Ashland visits and this is a big part of it. Many thanks for keeping the place so great.
We enjoyed our stay in this charming two BR/two BA cottage within walking distance of the theaters and downtown. We highly recommend it.
Excellent in all regards
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It is an absolutely lovely little home that was perfect for the four of us. Be sure to take advantage of the outdoor patios when you go there and keep the curtains open for the morning light!
Stayed for many years. Everything is good.
Wonderful 2br unit. Spotlessly clean and included everything we needed. Just a couple blocks to walk downtown for restaurants, Shakespeare, farm market, ice cream, and shopping. And only a short ride to the Bear Creek bikeway where we rode all the way to Medford. We loved it!
We've stayed here multiple times and always enjoy our stay. You can't beat the location and the layout of the Garden Suite works well for our family.
We very much enjoyed our stay in this property. It was very comfortable, well-presented and well-located, with many extra amenities. With 2 BR and 2 full baths, it was very comfortable for 4 people. The enclosed outdoor courtyard was very comfortable to seat 4 at a table, though it was a bit difficult to seat 4 in the living/dining area.
Easy walk to the Shakespeare plays and restaurants...quiet, clean and well appointed ... would stay again for sure!
we enjoyed staying at this house.
We had an amazing stay! This cottage in on a quiet pretty alley with comfy beds. Every detail is thoughtful. A perfect place for our family's home base in Ashland!
Light and airy. Charming. Comfy beds. A perfect home away from within easy walking distance of plays. We love staying here.
We love our Fall stay in the Garden suite. (Must be about 10 years continuously there.) The place is lovely, incredibly maintained and close to all the places we want to be.
We were in town for the pine to palm 100 mile endurance run and needed a close by, quiet place. The garden cottage was perfect! Very clean, within walking distance to everything and quiet and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay!
We've stayed in the Garden Cottage several times. It is close to the theaters, quiet, and very comfortable for 4 people.
Our group has used this property for several years and likes everything about it and it’s location.
The whole process was simple and easy; from booking through check out. The property was well maintained and everything was provided that you would expect in a vacation rental, even off street parking. Dining table was too small for 5 but that didn't matter to us. Front porch light and string lights did not work, even after Sugar attempted to remedy the situation, hopefully that's been fixed. We will try and rent this property again for next years Ashland trip.
Charming, clean, and very comfortable. Great location, quiet, close to the venues. We have been staying here for the last several years and are never disappointed.
We enjoyed the close proximity to OSF, Coop, great places to eat as well as walking routes. The size was perfect for 2 couples, especially nice to have two bathrooms. Sugar was wonderful. When we arrived we had no hot water . Even though this was a Friday evening, we had a new water heater and hot water by 10 am Saturday.
My husband and I stayed in the Garden Suite, which was the perfect size for us when we were in Ashland to see some plays. The two-bedroom, two-bath cottage is perfectly appointed, spotlessly clean, decorated beautifully, and is only a couple of blocks to downtown Ashland and the theaters. It's within walking distance of the restaurants and shops, yet is still quiet and secluded. The only criticisms I have are 1) the Keurig, although very convenient, is an ecological disaster (but certainly not a deal breaker!); and 2) the spice cupboard needs to be updated and added to. Other than that, we were thrilled with everything it had to offer. We can't wait to return and stay a little longer next time. We've stayed at other vacation rentals in Ashland that weren't nearly as clean and well taken care of as this one.
We love staying at 2nd Street Cottages. Perfect for two couples with two baths!
Was a perfect match for 3 friends. Comfortable, cozy, convenient. Easy walk to groceries as well as restaurants. Owner came immediately fix a small problem. Very thoughtful and attentive hosting! Thanks! We'll be back.
Very comfortable. Easy 1 block walk to downtown Ashland. Great for one or two couples.
Clean, well appointed, exceedingly welcoming and well managed. Very convenient!
The garden suite was perfect for us and our friends. We took walks in the neighborhood to greet all the resident deer. What a treat! The distance to downtown and the OSF was just right.
Clean and comfortable - just the right size for our family of four. And a very nice host! Good communications.
Convenient to everything.
Beautifully appointed, upgraded, well-stocked & very clean. Everything worked well. Easy walk to theaters, restaurants & market. If I had to make one suggestion it would be to install lightning in the access alley one must walk through to return to the cottage in the evening. We would definitely return to this rental again. Thank you for adding to a very pleasant experience!
Quintessential Ashland property within walking distance of everything. I highly recommend staying here!
The cottage was comfortable, clean and very convenient to theaters, restaurants and shops. We walked to everything. We would definitely stay here again.
Comfortable, clean house, very nice location. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for sharing your place and being a terrific VRBO hostess. Best ever.
We loved this place - so far it is our favorite VRBO. The house was in excellent condition, cozy and absolutely spotless. Sugar is a delight to work with - our daughter left her pillow on her bed and it was packaged and sent back to us immediately. The location is very quiet even though you are essentially in the middle of town. It is a very short walk to downtown, fantastic restaurants, the theaters and an amazing food co-op. We hope to stay here often.
Such a lovely cozy apartment. 5 minute walk to downtown and the theaters. Great for 4 people with 2 bdrms and 2 baths. Well equipped kitchen. Everything you need for a short stay. Private outdoor spaces and excellent parking. Many great restaurants within walking distance. Clean, well cared for property. I Always stay at these cottages when I visit Ashland.
The Second Street cottages, Garden Suite, is a perfect place for an Ashland get away. We had four adults in this space for a long weekend and it was the perfect amount of space. Two spacious and clean bedrooms with two full baths meant that we all had plenty of space to sleep and get ready. Perfect sized kitchen for making meals and a small, but nicely appointed living room. There were two outdoor spaces that we didn't get to use because it was too cool and a little rainy, but that would be great for warmer temps. Plenty of kitchen gear, the only suggestion would be to have a few more pantry items like spices and olive oil. The location is superb. 1 minute walk to a great local beer and coffee place -Growler Guys. 3 minute walk to a great co-op for grocery shopping. 5 minute Walking distance to Main Street and lots of wonderful restaurants. We recommend Peerless, Pie and Vine, and Noble Coffee as must hits. We had a truly wonderful baby-moon, Thanksgiving, friend get-away and hope to be back again soon. Thank you, Sugar for a wonderful space to call home for a few days!
Very well maintained and beautifully clean property. Great location and very helpful owner. As described on VRBO. (One small complaint - only Keurig for coffee which is very environmentally unfriendly. Also would have liked a hot water kettle also. Small complaints!) We are already booked for 2017 and 2018
Our third visit to the cottage; clean, comfortable, well-equipped kitchen, tastefully decorated, great location. Co-op market, downtown shops, and theaters are within walking distance. A minor plumbing problem was quickly fixed by Sugar. See you again next year!
We were staying in Ashland for the Pine to Palm 100 race and this cottage was perfect for our needs. The location is within walking distance of the downtown restaurants and bars. The cottage itself has great patio areas, easy parking, and comfortable beds. The living room and kitchen area were large enough for our needs and the two full baths made getting ready easy enough for everyone. The AC was a huge plus as well. The Wifi was reliable and the complimentary soaps/coffee were a bonus. Highly recommend!
We have stayed in the Garden Suite several times, and it is just fantastic. Sugar was terrifically communicative and accommodating. Beds are super comfortable; kitchen is well-stocked; and there are very thoughtful touches that make the stay carefree. It is especially nice having two full bathrooms and a wager/dryer. We plan to return again and again.
My husband, sister, and I spent three wonderful days at this Ashland retreat. Quiet neighborhood that's no more than five minute's walk from all the Ashland action. Charming decor. Well appointed for those who want to dine at home. SUPER CLEAN! Love the keyless entry. We look forward to returning to the cottage as often as possible.
We had great weather and had great space to relax and talk before and after plays.
We had a wonderful stay at this 2 bedroom, 2 bath house. Our family has been visiting Ashland every year for the past 9 years and this was one of the loveliest places we have stayed at. The location can't be beat -- it's just a block from the main strip and an easy 5 minute walk to the theaters and the Co-op; the place also comes with ample parking in the back. The house itself is airy and feels spacious and there is a lovely private porch in the back for outdoor dining. The furnishings are beautiful and everything is very high quality, from the silverware and dishes to the luxurious bedding and towels. Finally, there were lovely personal touches from the owner everywhere -- sweet welcome notes, a shopping bag for groceries, and a fully stocked coffee-kit/Keurig machine. We also really appreciated the welcome book that listed notable places to visit and dine in the area. It's clear that the owner really cares about her guests and wants everyone to feel welcome in Ashland. We'll definitely try to stay here again next year!
I have stayed at the Heritage Suite at Second Street Cottages several times (under former owners). This year, friends and I booked the Garden Suite, now owned by Sugar, and just loved it. Everything was fresh, clean, bright, cheery, inviting and comfortable. We happened to meet Sugar one morning and were able to express our complete satisfaction with her lodgings. Would come back and recommend to others. A perfect cottage in a perfect town!
Would return in a second. Sugar, the manager, was superb.
The place is small but cozy, and decorated nicely. Very clean, lots of extras (tea, coffee, filters, etc.) Quiet street, though you are adjoining other properties. Owner was prompt with info when making reservation, and sending check in info before our stay. Would definitely stay there again. The off-street parking was a bonus.
Great property, great location. This was our first time staying in Ashland and we could not be happier with the Second Street Cottage. We highly recommend the property. House was 2 blocks to the core of town and the theaters. Parking immediately in front of the cottage. Cottage has two bedrooms and easily fit a family of 4. Kitchen fully stocked with necessary items, including much appreciated truffles. Will definitely stay here again when visiting Ashland.
We love staying at the garden cottage. It is charming, well kept and the manager Sugar Mejia is very welcoming and available for questions and concerns. The location is perfect. Walkable for the plays, restaurants and takeout from the Ashland Co-op.
This cottage is absolutely perfect! The two bedroom/two bath accommodations were just as described. Conveniently located 2 blocks off Main Street. Lovely appointments and everything we needed for a few days of dining, shopping and, of course, theatre! Will absolutely book this property for my next trip up there.
My girlfriend and have stayed at the 2nd Street Cottages for the past 6 years when we make our annual trek to Ashland for the plays, restaurants, wine/cheese/chocolate tasting and more. In 2013 my boyfriend joined us which makes 2016 his 4th year staying in the Garden Suite with two women of a certain age who are intelligent , opinionated and fun-says I. (Yes he should get a medal.) The 2 bedroom/ 2 bath arrangement is great way for couples or friends to share expenses while staying in a very nice place within walking distance to the theaters, restaurants, art galleries, shops and Lithia Park. We love the privacy of our rooms/bathrooms as well as our group breakfasts and after--play champagne with fruit/cheese-platter debriefings in the living room at night. This year we finally had a reason to turn on the TV for the election returns. The Garden Suite is clean and quiet with all the comforts of home. A new Keurig replaced the old coffee pot which was fine. We did purchase some dark roast k-cups along with half and half because that's the way we roll but medium-bodied and de-caff k-cups were provided along with powdered creamer and sugar. The place has air conditioning and includes a washer/dryer. The door-code entry system works very well. VRBO manager Sugar Mejia is very accessible and attentive should the need arise to contact her. Restaurant recommendations: Amuse- higher end but exceptional in every way; Hearsay-newly opened in a beautiful restaurant space with many small plate offerings to share (or not) as well as traditional meals/salads/desserts. They have an innovative drink menu and many local wines/beers too; The Brick Room- also small plate offerings as well as full restaurant menu in a large, open upstairs setting. We also took in the Cabaret Theater on Monday when the OSF is dark. Tickets to the Cabaret Theater are not as expensive as OSF and their dinners are great- not included in the price of admission but well worth the price. The other extra activity we participated in this year was a scenic float trip on the Rogue River by Noah's River Rafting. The snooze cruise only had Class I and II rapids but it was still fun. We saw lots of newborn Mergansers and other water foul and watched a white pelican take off. Then we had to quickly paddle our raft out of the way of a large, ungainly helicopter whose pilot wanted to suck up water from the river right where we were. It was quite an interesting operation
We loved staying at Sugar's Garden Suite at 2nd Street Cottages. Great location close to theaters, restaurants, coffee places, Ashland Co-op, and more. On arrival we parked our cars at the rental (great off-street parking), walked everywhere, and didn't need to get in them again until we left. The Garden Suite was perfect for two couples—two bedrooms, each with its own bath, and everything was clean, comfortable, and attractive. Quiet area too. The keyless entry worked well. We'd definitely stay here again! Thank you!
Our entire family was very thrilled with this lovely, comfortable, quiet, and exceptionally clean home. We spent several hours each day on one of the two decks enjoying the outdoors. Since our grandson wasn't old enough to attend plays, he found plenty for us to do on the private deck and relaxing area off the bedroom. The kitchen was well stocked with enough dishware, silverware and glassware. We found the Keurig coffee unit to be so easy to use. The linens and beds were perfect for a great night's rest after busy days. Two bathrooms worked beautifully for us. It was a short stroll to the Co-op, the coffee shops, restaurants, markets, and plays. We never heard our neighbors. The owner sent a list of restaurants after I inquired about Mother's Day Brunch. We tried a new place, The Loft. Delicious food with excellent service and a lovely balcony patio on the creek. Martoli's Pizza and The Greenleaf was great as usual. And, we had delicious carry out from the Thai Pepper. Zoey's Cafe was visited several times for desserts. We enjoyed all the plays. Our two favorites were Vietgone and The Yeomen of the Guard. Twelfth Night and The River Bride were excellent also. Treat yourself to this inviting getaway home.
Sugar was very attentive and took care of several requests for us. The house worked beautifully for the group of women I was with. We are knitters, so appreciated having places to gather. The kitchen in Heritage was large enough to cook together. It was wonderful experience!
This was our second stay at the 2nd Street Cottages, Garden Suite. It's a clean & comfortable 2 bedroom, 2 bath cottage and offers everything we need; full kitchen, washer & dryer, two patios, off-street parking and quiet location. The cottage is very convenient for walking to the theaters, Railroad district and the co-op. We love the neighborhood. A great place to stay when visiting Ashland.
We felt very comfortable in the cottage - much better than staying at a hotel. We walked everywhere - to restaurants, to the theatre, to coffee...it was great! We would definitely stay here again.
Really enjoyed our stay in Ashland. This was a great location. We were able to walk to the theater and restaurants and all the other shops in the neighborhood. The property is so well located we rarely used a car. The unit, itself, is clean and bright and well stocked with all the kitchen supplies and utensils one might need. Our first night we had dinner in and found everything we needed. Really liked the two bedroom/two bath layout. Perfect for friends traveling together. Couldn't have been more pleased with our decision to choose this property and look forward to staying here again.
This 2 bedroom/2bath cottage is wonderful. It is cozy, comfortable, and just a five minute stroll to OSF and great Ashland restaurants and shops. The cottage is beautifully furnished, has everything you might need in the kitchen, two nice decks, and even a washer and dryer. It is a lovely neighborhood and very quiet. This will be my new home in Ashland when I go to OSF every year!
This beautifully appointed cottage was perfect for a getaway to enjoy Ashland's Shakespeare theatre as well as the main street with cute shops, beer and coffee shops and tasty restaurants. We also happened to be there for the First Friday Artwalk which happens throughout the downtown area, fun to see all the creativity in Ashland. We walked all over the downtown area, even if the weather was a little drizzly. The owner even brought us some umbrellas to use in the drizzle! It's a short drive to some wineries which offer fun tastings. The two bedrooms and two baths were outfitted with comfortable bedding and towels and everything was very clean. I have stayed in many VRBOs all over the country and this was one of the best!
Hi Sugar, we have never stayed in a VRBO that so perfectly met our needs. Our family has stayed in many places, and everyone agreed this was as close to perfect as you can get. The cottage is very well designed to provide comfort, privacy, and convenience. The furnishings are all of high quality and unique. Bedside lamps, closets with plenty of hangers, a generous supply of towels, bed linens, napkins, and a very well-equipped kitchen are just a few of many features that made our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. Generosity was evident everywhere. The location was ideal- on a quiet street but a 5 minute walk from downtown. Thank you so much, and we hope to be back again soon. Nancy and Richard Howard Thanksgiving 2015
We've stayed in a number of nice accommodations in Ashland on our annual theatre-going vacation, but this year we found the place we will come back to. 2nd Street Cottages are charming, super-convenient to walk to OSF or Railroad district coffee bars for that morning latte, and beautifully and comfortably appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed, so after making a brief shopping run, we were able to 'eat in' and relax between shows. I highly recommend this rental!!
This cottage was super clean, close to theatres and restaurants, and yet in a quiet neighborhood. Our only complaint would be that the table in the house can not easily seat even 3 people. We like to have breakfast at home and even dinner on occasion. The outside table is lovely but the weather does not always allow using it. A table with no apron (so our legs can get under) and perhaps with a drop leaf, would help a great deal. The other minor suggestion is that the tub shower be converted to shower only. Those of us at a certain age find climbing over the high tub edge just a bit dangerous and would prefer a walk-in shower. Otherwise all the bedding, kitchen furnishings were great. We would definitely come back!
Two nights were not enough in this lovely cottage -- charming, cozy, well stocked and perfectly located for a group wanting to enjoy restaurants, pubs, theaters with an easy walk home and no concern of parking or driving. Can't wait to come back and visit Ashland and stay again at this cottage!
Great, clean, nice people - not in your face but available if needed. The location is perfect for the downtown scene (eating, theatre, people watching, shopping, walking - the great park!). We walked (two blocks) to the coop every day for great, fresh, organic food and enjoyed cooking a few meals. Restaurants were great - special night at Beasy's on the creek that the owner recommended -- fabulous! This is a really nice place to stay in Ashland - already booking our trip for next year.
The cottage was clean and tastefully decorated. We were well informed on check in procedures. Although we didn't have to contact the manager or host, they made me feel welcome to do so if needed. Easy access to Ashland activities.
Booked this meeting some friends halfway -- place was perfect for us. Two separate bedrooms and bathrooms, great location for downtown (we parked our cars when we arrived and did not drive again until the last day). The owner let us check in a little early, which was nice after a long drive. The place was clean, had everything we needed and was well laid out for two couples.
